Mike, you picked a real, chamber of commerce day, to video Portland. Sort of surprising to see much of I-5 in the center city with only 2 lanes in each direction, but suppose it was built that way due to the many overpasses and possibly already developed land. Absolutely beautiful video of that area sir!
I-5 is one of the older routes on the system, started in the mid-1950's, before the Eisenhower bill was passed. In Portland, there just isn't much flat space to build roads; kind of like Pittsburgh. So, it's rather compact; lots of bridges, overpasses and underpasses, many built long ago and struggling to handle both capacity and local environmentalists. It gets worse up the road in Seattle-Tacoma. The views are great, but you have to pay more attention to your driving there.
@@MileageMikeTravels There's one spot there downtown, where a southbound ramp was supposed to branch off into downtown, but is stubbed out. This was a bigger problem in Salem, where an entire section of elevated and ground freeway was removed after environmental complaints. At the video's beginning, there's a sign suggesting through traffic going to Seattle use I-205 and go around town.
This is a very old vintage 1950s sort of highway for I-5 in portland. Only 2 lanes due to developed land. But still beautiful nonetheless. This highwayy needs an update immediately
Why are you up here in the gloom this time of the year? I need sunshine so I watch your channel. I been here in the hospital Haven't been home to Florida in 3 years. Hope to get 8k tv to watch your videos when I get into low cost housing.

Yeah getting a sunny day is rare in these parts. I definitely got lucky here.

True. The infrastructure out here needs a major update.
