My birthday is coming up soon and because November is my birthing month I usually reflect my life that lead up to this moment. This year was just filled with heart break and falling for shitty people that didn’t give a shit but this song still makes me happy with the people I dated because at the end of the day I made good memories and despite how it ended I do wish them the best and want them to be better as I do the same

I think the line "I used to be somebody in another skin" is the feeling when your personality was so intertwined with someone else, that now that they're gone you're so lost on who you are. When you look back on your memories, you see yourself acting completely differently. Whether back then you were into different music, a different style, or back when you were happy and smiling and in love. Now that the relationship is gone and you lose certain parts of yourself, you've changed so much that it feels like the past version of you was someone else.
And when you realize that you're not your past self, you realize that they also are completely different from who they used to be when they were with you. And you realize the person you were so in love with, someone who completely changed your life, doesn't exist anymore.

Literally heard this song this morning and if I'm being honest. It was perfecting time. We broke up in February (Glimpse of us hit me) and still talked afterwards. 2 months ago we parted ways and the last thing I told her was that I hope she is happy even if it's not with me. We both smiled and hugged each other one last time. All I have now is the memories that we made. Gosh Joji knows where to hit me.

Bro literally the same thing, we broke up in feb and cut ties May, then without contact for months she came back into my life a month ago and left him for abit before deciding to go back and it broke me. This album dropped the very next day. Joji just knows bruh 😭💀

This song came out literally the day after my girlfriend left me, we were together for 5 years, we were basically highschool sweethearts and sure we had our problems and the occasional argument about whatever, but things were finally looking up, we both got better paying jobs and we were looking at places together, and I was looking at rings and she never seemed to be unhappy in our relationship, I was always there when she needed me, always being supportive of her and trying to help her balance home, college and work and I thought I was doing a really good job, but, a few weeks ago she left me for her coworker whom she'd known for about 5 days because "he reminds her of how we were in the beginning" and "her heart doesn't feel like it's in the relationship anymore".....I just don't understand why she left...and now I'm just sitting here watching self help videos, listening to sad songs and trying to figure out how to live without her in my life all the while she's with someone else that she barely knows....why would she trade all of what we had to start again with someone else
sorry that happened to you, to think she walked out on you for someone she just met is unforgivable, she didn't appreciate a good man and that's a huge loss for her, you can't live without her and it's understandable, and to think she's fine leaving you broken like this is unacceptable, it's not easy to move on, it's not easy to forget her, it's not easy to forget the 5 years you spent with her, but to her it's nothing. She's not worth it, she threw you away and took you for granted, you will find another woman who will truly appreciate you as a boyfriend or a husband, truly hope you keep your head up after going through a period of sadness

As horrible as it is... this was mostly likely the biggest blessing in disguise you could receive.
It doesn't erase the pain, but I am glad you didn't pick out that ring for a woman who doesn't deserve it. Leaving you for such a reason is so odd (seen it before, but it's still boggling). Ofc in the beginning things are great, you're still in the honeymoon phase of things.... I'm not saying things won't work out for her... but it seems like she was looking for something "new." It probably has little to do with the dude she met imo... This has more to do with her wants than it has to do with your "faults." I hope you find yourself again... This sht sucks.
I just ended a 7 year long relationship (also high-school sweethearts), difference is, he didn't treat me like you say you did her. I had to end things for myself, I didn't know who I was anymore. I get how after spending years with someone... it feels strange being "single," especially under these circumstances.
I guess the best thing we can do is better ourselves... We both came out of our relationships with additional baggage it seems lol. You seem like a good man, please keep your chin up and don't doubt that you have so much to offer. The right girl will not only appreciate it, but reciprocate. Much love ❤️

Bittersweet
I have recently gone through a similar incident. This song speaks volumes to me. Having all those happy moments where you felt like you were on cloud 9 and then in an instant its gone, is one of the most painful things I have gone through at the age of 25. My final text to this person was nothing but respect and telling her that no matter what happened between us and who she ended up choosing, I will always love her. That all I can do is wish them the best, that she gets the happiness she deserves. Its hard, knowing that person is not in your life anymore. Thank you Reaction Therapy for going over this song and going through these lyrics. Mental Health is important, this situation has changed me entirely as a person and who I use to be. Be appreciative that person gave you some of the happiest moments of your life. Life is full of growth and learning. Keep pushing through. Time heals.
The JOJI sound is the most pure, but sad- true and just relieving. You feel relieved because you understand you're not alone knowing a man like JOJI talks about in in his lyrics and spreads the message to help people sympathize with the pain from the actual pain.
I've gone thru what that song is going on about and the i got the message from the first couple lyrics, i broke down in tears after the Chorus because my fucking god that's true and so real.
I tend to build these relationships with people deeply care about them but wanting nothing out of it because I’m mentally not in the right place dealing with a lot financially not well and I hate having them hold on eventually we part ways go ghost they move on happy with someone it hurts for a bit but I smile keep pushing through one day things will change
When I first heard this song and read the lyrics, it made me internally think about the girl that I've loved so much but wasn't to be; and hope I hope I can get to the point where I can genuinely wish that she'll be happy with someone else.
But for right now, I think I'm more in the "Glimpse of Us" stage, and the new album really broke me.
This song helped me actually want happiness for someone i love that is in another country. With or without me. Ive also been in therapy and practice loving kindness meditation which is important to get to this place.

this whole song is amazing even the video for this song hits because to me, its telling me to move on, despite how stuck you are on this person, the world keeps spinning and you eventually have to move with it, but letting go hurts. loosing that sense of innocence and sort of childish belief that there will be a next time with this person is hard to let go of, because you'd still die for them even if they're happy without you. you love this person so much you're even willing to stay away because you know you're not good.

I like how Glimpse of Us and Die for You, can be love as well as songs of grief. Where whether pursuing a new relationship, there is still a void of this person left behind, only remembering a glimpse of us. Then Die for You, wanting to see someone again but then realizing, that all that pain you feel, even in the afterlife, that person feels that too. Even if you want to die for this person to reunite with them, you let them go, where the only times you can communicate are in your dreams. Hoping that in there next life, or in the afterlife, they’re happy.
Joji is amazing and he’s about all I have listened to for the past two years.. I love his sad boy melodies. He’s helped me so much with realizing life is sad but beautiful.
I think it’s worth mentioning the whole length of his emotions in the chorus.
Even thou the thoughts of wishing the best for this person, and the resolution and emotions being processed are accepted. It will never change the pain and loss of this person. The willingness to live in hurt but more importantly the willingness to admit how much they still mean to you after it’s truly over is the highlight of this song.
The lyric “it kills me a little, that’s okay, cause I’d die for you” cuts unbearably deep to the character of the song. Implying(in my humble interpretation) the character singing had an excruciating attachment to this person. The atmosphere and intro give us haunting past thoughts leading us to this characters present thought. As if taking your first breath after being underwater for days.
This person has been through it and has come to the point where he can see the bigger picture

The most intriguing part of the song is we don’t know who’s fault it is that brought the relationship to and end. It’s not the point. This is for the character

A acknowledgment that “I cared about you, your absence in my life kills me and I’ve gotten to the point now finally
, that I can finally see past my own self and see that you will move on, and if I truly mean everything I’ve felt and said about you I have to be okay with this. Even if it kills me. My will, my conscience, thats okay, because i would die for you.”

This is by far my favorite song of all time currently, Ive never been able to relate to a song so perfectly before, almost all Joji songs are like that for me, even crazy becfause i was a fan of Joji back when he was Papa Franku. Dude was my childhood and adulthood
Great song. I love this. It is the same when a Friend have got a great relation with there family and you dont have that, and you can be happy for them even when you feel pain for missing this.
Been through everything in this song in the past 2 years, when this song released it was like a flashback Rollercoaster that just made me really think of what I should do. I'm honestly thinking about taking therapy at some point to try and better myself.
Yep, i feel you... For me, it has been 4 years since i broke up with the most sweet, observing, emotional intelligent (and many more..) person i've ever met. And after all that time, i'm still thinking about everything...

We just broke up recently and I'm literally experiencing everything there is on the song now, unable to sleep, eating in the smallest of portions and just literally dying every single day from every regret and what if's. The song literally broke me up even more.
I'm glad to find this video because I had a recent break-up and tried to make things right after what I did. We both unexpectedly fall in love and admitted we liked each other. We both shared our passion. We help each other when someone feels down, fight things over and give ourselves time to think before facing the issues for us to resolve. She gave me love and kindness. At some point in our relationship, we had a long-distance relationship, we did the same thing we had in our relationship where during that ldr I was attending school while she was having vacation so at some point, I was studying and school took my mental health so bad where it got things messy with myself as it did we my relationship. I became careless, selfish, and barely communicate our problems. She was thinking I was using her for her kindness, love, and respect and I was trying to give them back but it took me time because I suddenly felt my inner child in trouble and I failed to communicate with her about my problems and I have being doing reckless actions that affect our relationship. She lost my trust for what I did and I tried to take it back for what I did because I can prove she can trust me again but this is what ended our relationship. I know I'm not a perfect person and there are many things I wish I didn't do. But it'll be a lesson for me and I know I never meant to do those things to you. I would like to say that one part of the lyrics "I couldn't see the forest with all the trees" was my situation during that long distance because I had everything on my mind and I was unable to see the bigger picture from either during the relationship or just after the breakup, clouding my judgment. I know I'm hoping for her to come back but I broke her, and I'm just hoping she would be better after what I did and I hope we could work things out again and be together if that's our destiny because relationship isn't meant to be perfect which it is a myth. Anyway, I hope we get through this and hope for the better of us. (it was also our first relationship with someone, so we are learning) and I love you, Jay.

This song became my great reminder that relationships will be the end of me. Because as sweet as the first moments or even the rest are, once it ends, its a world of pain for just the average person.
And as someone who's more sensitive, I know I wouldn't be able to take it. May it be a break up or death do us apart, I'd feel atomized. I prefer to be alone for the rest of my lifetime, treating everyone on the same level. I'd only have myself to lose and be the end of me.

I'm going through this now, witg mental hardships. Loved her for years, still do.
When she told me she'd d want a relationship, at my b-day i got sensory overload.
And i got myself into a mental prison i could not get out of ("cant see the forest from the trees")
When there's only one realistic woman in 35 years and you come so close to get her after hard years of preparation and you fuck up the love of your life, it's torture. It's pure pain. Never felt so down. Never been so close to giving up.
But i can't die because of her, i just would die for her. Right?

From what I could see that's talking about recognizing your mistakes or the choices you used to make and accepting that as part of your history.
(New sub btw, psychology major and I've always analyzed music the way you do and I love it!)
For me the song represents losing my son and accepting my choices as a young adult, coming to terms with that and hoping the best for him in the next life. Thank you for this video, friend.

This song is helping me with my ex fiance. She moved out to stay with another guy she was seeing eventually I saw them at a our usual grocery store holding each other smiling laughing. I never felt so broken but nowadays I'm taking care of myself and our cats. This song made me understand that yeah she moved on and it makes me sad but I do hope she's happy.
