- Takashi Kinjo is a 10th-dan master of Uechi-ryu karate and kobudo. Masami Kinjo, his wife, is an 8th-dan master of Uechi-ryu karate, and kobudo.
On the 15th July 2020 we photographed Takashi Kinjo Sensei and Masami Kinjo Sensei for the Karate Masters Portrait Project at their dojo in Okinawa. I also filmed a few minutes of their training of both Uechi-ryu and kobudo. I'm not sure what the kata is that Takashi Kinjo does at the start of the video. Please comment below!
Hopefully we'll be able to do a full interview with both Kinjo Senseis in the future. I'm still busy putting in the subtitles for Episode 3 of Series Two of Sensei: Masters of Okinawan Karate. The interview with Matsuda Sensei was about an hour long so it is taking a while to edit.

Sensei: Masters of Okinawan Karate is a crowd-funded documentary series about the amazing martial arts teachers living on Okinawa, the birthplace of karate. It is completely free to watch on TH-cam. Learn more about the project here and how you can help here:

GOALS OF THE SERIES
1. Document the stories of Okinawan karate masters and their philosophy on life and their martial arts practice.
2. Record in the highest quality possible. Ideally 4K or 8K, RAW, multi camera, multi audio
3. Store the original data as an archival record.
4. Transcribe and translate the recordings to spread knowledge of Okinawan martial arts, history and culture.
5. Make the videos available for free online via TH-cam, and on Bujin.tv so that anyone, anywhere can see them.
The documentary series grew out of the Karate Masters Portrait Project which began in 2012. The portrait project allowed amazing access to the sensei, but it was only Chris Willson and James Pankiewicz who got to hear their stories. The documentary series is a way for us to share that unique knowledge with the international karate community.

Beautifull... Thank you for this great video
Note : he is 83 y.o
Thanks for the info! Amazing for 83! Do you know how old Masami Kinjo is?
This was excellent the knowledge that they know is incredible, uechi ryu is a great style of karate
Respetó y admiración
Tough couple pensioners impressive
i think the kata at the beginning of the video is a version of Kanshiwa
Yes, I agree. It looks like the same kata his wife performs a bit more slowly, which is labelled as kanshiwa no kata. I was a Koburyu student in Michigan 20-some years ago, and got to train with Kinjo Kaicho once. He's delightful.
Amazing...how old are they?
Excellent question, I'll find out.
Takashi : 1939. more than 83 years old
How do they call wooden dummy in karate? (Not the wing chun's dummy).
Respekt☺️
Может дедулька если успеет попадёт ко мне в ученики?
