Believe it or not, I used to make a living doing that on Viola outside Macy's in SF. Supported my family of four for a while until I started getting Orchestra gigs. Leontyne Price gave me a dollar once, when a dollar was equal to $4 in 2022 money!
Encouraging, and thank you for doing this. How long have you been practicing/playing? You make it look so effortless, especially with the bow hold. Did you teach yourself or whom did you learn from, if you don't mind me asking... Stay awesome!!! Struggling beginner with my viola.
I have to vent. Am an adult learner and yesterday had my first lesson with a new teacher. She said nice things about how I play except that ... I play the viola like a violinist. Feeling like ashes now and going to watch James's video on violists v violinists playing of the viola. Maybe one day in the far distant future I could earn money busking
When the police drive by: “Every note you play, every bow you take, I’ll be watching you…”
I'm sure you caught us all off guard with this awesome comment. Busted out laughing.
I've always been a fan of the mellow sound of the viola
agreed
Thank you Viola King you represent what violists can achieve so well, a true inspiration!
Everything you played was beautiful, but Summertime really sounds amazing on viola.
Your videos always make me smile :)
and I was surprised at how the color of viola sound is so well matched to Summertime of Porgy and Bess!
$12 per second ain't bad at all! Keep up the hustle, viola fam
Fantastic playing.

No sheet music? Pog. I struggle to play even one song without it.
Good on you and congrats on the gig!
Next time, try an meme medley so see what that earns? ;-)
it would do well online, but most of my tippers are adults and older that wouldn't understand
You could release a live album... It sounds great.
Encouraging, and thank you for doing this.

Keep learning and practicing, you will keep improving. The fact that you are already taking lessons shows you are dedicated and awesome 😊
Amazing!
'grats. hope the gig goes well
Viola King going for the "click-baity YT thumbnail" approach with red circles and caps lock in the title, I see.
Jk love the video tho
As cringe as they are, they're necessary for survival in modern day and I know my true subs will watch anyways
Viola sounds good out in the wild
Is that 17 inch?
sounds like it
Nearly 17 but it's 16 5/8
