    Looks great! And ya definitely don't stress the film prices at home. Here in Tokyo you can pick up Kentmere for ¥950 and some other stocks a bit cheaper. Minus any Kodak or Cinestill though. Thats still crazy expensive here.
    See you soon!

    One suggestion - if you need batteries for your camera, take spares! On Norfolk Island I got caught out trying to buy A76 alkaline button batteries for the OM-40. These are as common as can be in mainland Australia, but even a short flight to an external territory can leave you stranded :(

    • @pushingfilm

    That Fuji eterna is going to be interesting!! Your travel setup is very similar to what I do! I usually just bring my Sony kit lens and then adapt my LTM lenses from my canon p. Also how do you shoot your kentmere 400? I was watching one of your pov videos and the contrast in your photos was lovely and different than most of the results I’ve seen from other people

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I'm looking forward to the Eterna results! I usually shoot Kentmere at 320-400. Sometimes yellow filter, develop in HC-110 (although I might try some XTOL for this batch). You can really control contrast a lot when scanning in NLP though.

    Cool video Hashem. Have no worries, to us photo geeks what we pack never seems the “right” choice anyway. I think you did great with what you’ve packed. It’ll serve you well.

    Nice cat!
    As a Brit traveling to Europe mainland my rule is one SLR or rangefinder and one point shoot. With the SLR I'll bring a 50mm lens with my 30mm one and that's it along with film.
    On my trip to Istanbul last week I had 2 rolls fail on me because the point and shoot door latch failed and snapped off so had to buy film in Istanbul for a silly price for 24 exps. Pretty shitty but that's just how it is.
    I've found take less gear and 2 lenses at best because carrying that stuff around isn't fun and you learn how to make the best of what you have taken

    Hope you can get a hand check on the airport. I was under the impression that airports with CT scanners would have to comply to requests for hand checks. It’s so weird that every airport/employee hands it differently and there is not a standard procedure for everyone to follow. Last week I flew through London Stanstead (old scanners) and they were happy to hand check the film, which very rarely happens. I just have it as a habit to ask every time because you never know.
    Interesting set up by the way. It’s a big struggle of mine to pack light as I really like medium format for certain shots, on the other hand I often times shoot very little 120 while travelling. Also having a lightweight 120 is out of budget. There are too few options at very high price points.
    Looking forward to see your work on this trip, all the best, have fun!

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I managed to get a hand check out of Melbourne (CT) after an initial refusal! But, already had one pass here in Vietnam before a domestic flight. At least that was just a regular xray though... probably a few more to come, if their insistence was any indication 😅

    • @alexandermatragos
      @alexandermatragos 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pushingfilm Glad you managed to get through! Still frustrating though, to have to beg or bully your way to it. Regular X-rays are fine, you should be ok fir the rest of the trip!

    Customs in Melbourne are a bunch of power tripping ass…..! Every time I go through with my film I have issues! Traveled all over the world and Melbourne is the worst experience by far!

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah they always say no initially, every single time I've been. But, I've always been successful (so far) after politely insisting and showing them some 3200 speed rolls 😅

  • @xarepre8334
    @xarepre8334 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You've put together some great travel equipment.
    I also really like the film selection. Unfortunately, I no longer dare to take analogue photographs when traveling by plane. The new CT scanners are stopping me from doing that. Once through the CT scan and the films are broken. How do you do that if the airport staff refuses to hand-check you and accept the risk that all the films will be broken on the outward flight?
    Best regards
    XARE

    • @ContraGrain
      @ContraGrain 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Overwhelmingly I've never had an airport say no.

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Yeah I just take the risk I guess, since it'll almost never completely ruin the film with carry on scanners. I also always avoid the CTs, and luckily they gave me handcheck out of Australia. At first they refused, then I showed the dummy 3200 rolls and they accepted 😂

  • @solmare_

    35mm AND a 28mm lens? I get the debate on which one to use, and for what purpose, but bringing both for a trip seems SO redundant! You have been on more travel photog trips than I, so zero judgment, I just can't comprehend bc I just left my 35 Lux home to bring my new 28mm 1.5 Voigtlander on a Dallas, Texas trip! Hope you have a blast!

  • @JacobChristiansen1

    • @pushingfilm
      @pushingfilm  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Yeah I'll definitely benefit from both with it being 6 weeks, and since they're so small it works out 😁 I would like to try going even more minimal some time though.

    • @JacobChristiansen1
      @JacobChristiansen1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pushingfilm I am the same, I end up bringing both 28 and 35mm, but I'll usually just use one of them for the entire trip, sometimes that is 28 other times it's the 35mm. But I've tried just brining one and it ends up being more liberating and I don't even worry about not having the other one.

    I don't know - folks are constantly talking about expensive film. I just don't see it. I swapped to Kentmere/Fomo from TriX, and Vision3 bulk rolls using a Jobo ECN-2 kit. The 120 cost, I mean I just shoot Gold 200 in 120, 250D ECN-2, along with Fomo and Kentmere. Got a mountain of Acros II on clearance in both formats too.

    You are taking too much gear and that is going to distract you. After 20+ years of shooting film and traveling I have limited my gear down to one camera, one lens, one kind of film (you have to choose between colour and black & white). In this way you are going to be more effective and your work will be more consistent (no big tripod, just a small one)
    Have a nice journey!
