I was 5 when that match took place. I was raised in a very abusive home. That game meant everything to me. Right after that match, I was walking by my aunts kitchen counter and saw a tuna can. I wasn't even thinking when I picked up that can and threw it at my dad. I hit him so hard, right in the forehead. I'm lucky he didn't kill me.That he didn't, that gave me insight into the fact that I did have some power in that situation. I completely stopped him by the time I was 9. That game gave me so much strength. Thank you for having Billie Jean King as a guest. Thank you Ms. King for winning that game.

My mum is the same age as BJK, and as a tennis nut, always admired her. When i came out as a teenager, I'm pretty sure BJK was the only lesbian my mother really knew of, and although it wasn't an easy process, her example helped my mum and I to find some common ground. What a woman! Both women are amazing!

@megannuffer, Yes, exactly! She has definitely been a role model to many young girls and women. When I was growing up in the 70's/80's, she was in her heyday. I loved the sport of tennis, played every day in the summer, and wanted to play professionally, but that didn't happen. She was my idol, and I named my beloved first dog after her and read her book.
My hats off to the trailblazing women in tennis-Billie Jean, Althea Gibson, Margaret Court, Christie Everett, Martina Navariltalova, etc., then later Serena &Venus Williams, Stefi Graf, Coco Gauf, and the many, many others. Thanks to each of you, for your hard work, courage, inspiration, and love of the sport!

Happy Birthday, Melinda!!🎉 I turned 60 this year, and I feel incredibly empowered by women like you, Billie Jean King, and others you have interviewed. After years as a stay-at-home mom, I found the strength to pull myself together, become financially independent, and face my divorce head-on. It's been a tough journey, especially with limited financial resources, but every morning I wake up ready to fight back and rebuild my life, striving to become an infinitely better version of myself. Although my divorce isn't over yet, I look forward to the day when I can stop bleeding money to divorce attorneys and finally embrace the freedom that lies ahead. Thank you for these inspiring interviews.

Let us hope that these conversations will contribute to developing new values and changing the narratives about aging worldwide. This is a powerful opportunity to influence generations and cultures by using women's voices to reshape values and combat ageism.
As a researcher in the field of ageism and the promotion of healthy aging, I hope these series will advance the cause and open the hearts of many. Intersectionality includes age, not just gender and race, highlighting the importance of addressing ageism alongside other forms of discrimination and inequality. Happy 60, Melinda. Congrats!

So many said that my future was limited. A child born to a 13 yo child in a heavily segregated Southern state being raised by a hillbilly may seem like the ingredients of a disaster but to me it was all I needed to confirm....it's only going to get better from here.
Lift. Dr Angelou inspired my life and pursuit of education so hopefully at least 1 of my precious students received a bit of lift from me. They were gang members in the poorest county of this mega-city but if just 1 found a bit of lift then my life has been worth it all.

Melinda, please invest in a perimenopause awareness campaign in Central America. Because there is no awareness, the pharmaceutical companies do not offer all the range of therapies available in the developed world. We just need billboards and digital and TV ads for a few months until a real and permanent public conversation is started and pharmaceutical companies realize there is a market for hormonal aid. Right now the public conversation is very isolated and trickling. At that pace we will not see big changes until years have passed. HELP.

Why do people not give a platform to real women who have more relatable life experiences to draw from . Its like listening to royalty or celebrities speak on issues , knowing that they are so out of touch with the issues that real people deal with . Im sure she is a fine mother to her kids , and she did good getting away from Bill , (though wish she would own up to what happened with Bill and Epstein) . Obviously money isn't her motivation to do her show , but the obvious narcissistic attitude is grotesque . It is really shameful to see , and to know it is all because of the money she got in the divorce . I guess that is the measure of a persons worth in this modern world , but to put it in people's faces seems like a form of assault . The royalty of old were mostly were hidden from view , but these days living a god like life isn't enough , the rich for some reason need also to rub the masses noses in it , and feel they are doing good as they look down on those they feel superior to... Shameful and abusive way to comport ones self...

I went back and watched some older shows. More than likely this is just another left leaning show. You can tell by who Melinda has on her show Melinda and her producer won’t invite conservatives.

78 year old here. I saw Billie Jean play at Wimbledon in the early 60s when she was Billie Jean Moffat. Just amazing and what a life she has led. So brave and inspiring. Great interview, Melinda. Thank you.

Good lord does everything in today’s world have to be about politics? So sad one can’t just enjoy what Melinda is trying to bring out in these interviews and learn from them.
