  • I missed last week's update because of traveling and some surprise car trouble that ate up all my time, but everything should be back in order now. I'm working on catching up and building up a buffer of videos so I won't have to miss any updates in the future.
    This week we're going back to pants while I show you a quick way to design a pattern for leggings specifically for your doll. Leggings for dolls are super popular and easy to make. I used to make them for my own doll clothing shop, but for most sizes, I think I'm going to cut back on basics in favor of making designs I really love. This pattern is available in my website's pattern archive, and I'll be sharing the other patterns for leggings I've made as I start phasing them out of my inventory.
    As always, the pattern is free for personal use and can be downloaded here: ithilear.com/se...
    Happy sewing, and don't forget to show me what you make!

    Lomi you are fantastical. Thank you so very much for all of your instructions to draft a pattern and sew it together. I'm so excited to work your idea out very soon. I have a bazillion dolls and no patterns to save my life. This will be the best thing that has happened in my life as I've been trying to figure out simple pieces with no patterns. I need to learn how to draft patterns for all kinds of clothing articles for my dolls. Thank you once again my dear.

    I just printed off your pattern and about to cut the pieces out! 😁 Thank you so much for all that you do, tirelessly working and sharing!

    Great video thanks for sharing. was going to use my Aldrich pattern drafting book to work out how to make patterns for doll, so you showed the concept would work thanks.
    For anyone wanting close fitting top to the trousers, how about threading embroidery thread into the seam allowance, once they are finished then you have a draw thread closure and an option for tying as a bow for added colour detail if you wish too.

    Thanks so much for this! I was able to successfully draft a pants pattern for my Unoa elder zest! He's such a weird size, he's a tall MSD at 50 cm (souldoll vito clothes are even too big for him). I've been trying to make a pair but having a lot of trouble. I made a pair last night in 10 minutes, I just accidentally hemmed the waist too short, so I'm going to do it again tonight. . . but the legs came out perfect! I'm very happy :D

      I'm so happy they turned out well for you! It was the odd in-between sizes I had in mind when I put this guide together, so I'm super happy that it worked. :D

    Thanks so much for this video. For the first time i've managed to make leggings for a doll that weren't too difficult and actually fit properly.

    Using old baby clothes as a source of lightweight jersey fabric is genius, I went to my local thrift store and got some great shirts with tiny prints for only 50¢ each.

      Great finds!! I'm about out of fabrics from mine, but I probably need to use up some of my other materials before I go thrifting again.

      I am working on a pattern for jeans that I will have ready pretty soon. Corset assembly will be next week. I have to practice drafting the patterns for a couple more sizes before I can teach people how to do that from measurements, though, so for now it will be my own premade patterns. :D

    I just found this tutorial, and I think its going to be exactly what I need for my somewhat Victorian uniforms I'm planning! Could not find proper pants anywhere I looked but this is awesome! Thank you so much for all the great tutorials!!
    I do have one question. I have to hand sew (no machine yet), so I can't do a zig-zag stitch to finish the ends. What do you recommend? I had someone tell me to just use fray-check on them, but thought you might have another idea?

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fray check definitely works fine, but before I went to machine sewing, I used a blanket stitch or whip stitch to finish my edges. It always worked well!

    • @madqueen6632
      @madqueen6632 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I'll be honest, I'm terrible at even hand sewing, so I'll do fray check until I get a machine - hopefully soon! :)

  • @poldoll5683
    @poldoll5683 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another brilliant tutorial!! I really need to get myself a sewing machine to do this sort of stuff, but for now hand sewing is fine, but very very long.... 😊

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean! I still sew some things by hand, particularly for very tiny dolls, but even on them it takes forever. Sewing machines truly are a wonderful invention.

    This video is really great, showing how to measure and draft a leggings pattern that fits. But could you please make a video showing how to make pants with a back closure for non-stretchy fabrics to fit dolls with a real hip-to-waist difference like Barbies? I can't find anyone anywhere showing how that works.

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's on my list of tutorials to make, I just haven't had a chance to tackle it yet because I have been so busy :) Thank you for the suggestion!

    Wow it looks so easy! I would never guess to do pants that way, always avoiding to sew pants. I feel like my world just turned upsidedown from seeing hw easy it is to make pants! Will this method work with cotton or jeans fabric also?

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will, but you might need to add a little extra to the waist measurement to make sure it will slide over the hips, then use a drawstring or elastic in the waist to make sure they stay up!

    Hi,
    I know you don't do any patterns for say like American Girl dolls or anything like that, but I wondered if you were to do just a basic pattern for pants would it be done like this one?

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it should work for American Girl dolls as well!

    Hi, I'd like to make leggings using a non stretchy fabric that fits the doll's outfit perfectly. Is there any way I can do this using non stretchy fabric? The doll in question is a Tiny Delf (1/8) with curvy hips so perhaps I'm asking too much, but I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you and best wishes, Marian

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely doable. The trouble spots will be the ankles and hips, since you have to ensure the ankles will go over the heel part of the foot, which is often wider than the doll's ankle. The hips would require an opening at the waist that could be fastened with ultra-thin Velcro to keep it slim fitting, but without a slit opening at one of the seams, there's no good way to get it on. I'd recommend deciding which seam would be least likely to sew and leave the seam open far enough down to fit over the hips, then use a velcro tab to secure the whole opening so it becomes almost invisible.
      It's an interesting design situation to figure out. I may see if I can come up with something similar for my own dolls.

    I like how simple this tutorial is, I don't like all this complicated stuff about sewing xd But if I want to make more loose pants out of jeans for my little boy, which measurements should I change?

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a looser fit, all you'll need to do is make the legs wider. You'll want to keep the waist measurement the same, so they'll stay on your doll, and the crotch depth should be the same height as your measurements. But you can increase the width of the hip, thigh, ankle, or anything else to make them looser fitting. :)

    Hi hi Beth, This is Sheila from Minnesota. I'm trying to draft a pajama bottoms for a doll who is in a sitting position. The waist to crotch measurement in the front is 6.5 cm, the waist to crotch in the back is 11.5 cm. The legs are situated as if he's sitting so the crotch seam that goes from one leg to the other is more forward. How do I draft pajama bottoms for him?

      She is a Fairyland Littlefee Chloe. She does have a joint at the waist and also in the chest so she can move a lot. You can see lots of pictures of her type of body on the company's website, which is dollfairyland.com :)
