Always welcome 🤗. Thank you for your kind words. My wish is to create a detailed online resource for PGs in dermatology. Keep watching, we will be uploading newer topics every week. 😊😊
Thank you for asking. Itraconazole can cause renal function according to the product insert. But articles mention no detrimental kidney function on clinical doses. Any nephropathy that worsens on itraconazole therapy warrants stoppage of treatment. So mild dysfunction not getting worse should be okay on itraconazole. Yes. The monitoring would be frequent in such a case. Does that answer your question?
Good question, itraconazole has been used in ages as low as a year, even below that for fungal infection. However, weight based dose changes and careful monitoring is required. Recommended usage is after 12 years though, with terbinafine being more favourable in younger age group. Itraconazole has been used in neonates too in exceptional case reports.
That is a good query. But there is no such thing as the best brand, since there are a lot of factors that go into the clinical response. It is always better to prescribe as per the experience of the practicing dermatologist. Thank you for asking though 😊
