Awesome tutorial. Thanks for taking your time to film this while you were doing the work. It's hard enough to do the repair and then to film it, also. Thanks again, just what I needed.
Thanks for posting/sharing this, even though it apparently turned out not to be your specific leak problem. This part is rarely seen on TH-cam. I'm preparing to tackle my MIL's 2001 S430 which has a leak somewhere... Dealer wants $6K to fix, and the car isn't worth putting that kind of cash into it, so my MIL is ignoring the errors, to my chagrin. As soon as I finish getting the father-in-law's car safely road-worthy, I'll try to trade it for the keys for the S430 so I can take it apart and find the leak(s)...
Great instructional video, you have a very analytical and thought driven process. Thank you for the information! My 2 cents...also check and maybe even replace the ride height sensor and the bracket arm connected to the sensor (located behind the wheel on the top wheel well) one on each front and one for both rear wheels.
While I put my car in the shop because of the airmatic problem and decided to fix the body up . When I took the left fender off I think I seen this so they can be the problem too ? Ima just put on ramps and check for leaks for now .
Great video! I think this is the only video on TH-cam that addresses this component. And believe me, I have been looking for the last few years. Thanks man!
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this! Especially when it's so tight for space under there.. I hope you got a refund on your new leaking air strut!
Replacing the complete airstrut just for a leak on top isn't necessary. Once you have the trut out, use a dremel tool ( small fraize they use for modeling) and get the compound around the upper connecter out, then clean it with thinner and use a good 2 component compound they use for fiber. Fill it up and let it dry well. After a couple of hours you can install the strut to safe time, but let it dry overnight. I did it on both sides and it solved my problem.
Your video is very helpful. My w211 E500 wagon 4matic's front is low to the ground on both sides. I purchased both front air struts but didn't think of the block that you showed on this video. It is unlikely that both struts go out at the same time, so I'm gonna check it out first before replacing those struts. Thank you for sharing your video.
Hey Man! Thanks for this video. It's the only one I could find on replacing this part that was so thorough. My 2000 S430 is riding like a 60's Toyota Corolla and when its freezing outside or if i jack up one wheel the system deflates until I start the car up. I'm suspecting the valve block is bad since I've changed the struts. One thing I like to do is a little cleaning as I go to keep dust from entering the connectors when I take them apart. A quick shot of air or quick wipe with a dry rag is all that's needed. I also plan to change the filter while I'm in there. They can become fouled or, in extreme cases harbor condensation. Again, Thanks!

Some cool over kits come with an override but if yours did not....The for sure way of doing it requires someone with a STAR diagnostic system so you can program it out of the instrument cluster. Here are the steps I found from a forum I frequent
First, turn off airmatic for the car by following these menu items:
Control Units
Body
System Diagnosis
Control Unit Adaptations
Read Coding and Change if necessary
Programming of Vehicle Equipment
Set AIRMatic = NOT FITTED
Press F3 to save the change
Press F5 to send it to the car
Second, disable AIRMatic in the instrument cluster:
Control Units
Information and Communication
IC - Instrument Cluster
Control unit adaptations
Modification year or model year (not sure if this matters or how to know the right value; I guessed based on manufacture date of the car)
Variant Coding
Special Equipment (Wait a few seconds for all of the values to be read)
Set Partial air suspension to NOT PRESENT
F3 to save
F5 to send it to the car
That's it! No pulling fuses required and now you shouldn't see any warning messages.
You must buy coil spring conversion kit for your car.
And now it is forever.
great suggestion. have you done for yours?
