      Yeah, the general 'rule' is to shoot from the hip around 50% the expected value. For auctionable items this drops a bit... but not down to 25%. He must have had some sort of read on the guy thinking he'd take much less... or maybe he didn't want to fiddle with it for anything less than a nice big payday.
      Either way, I think the guy should have kept it.

      40% on that (normal auction fee would give him 6k at minimum) so that would be a risk. Starting it at 12 k would be better

      @Jew Tube 20k in an auction on a good day = 12k ish for you in hand. and thats just what they have sold for usely they sell for less and pawnshops need to make money to so 5k is low but never take the first offer they always lowball 7k could be fair tbh but still if you got the time sell it yourself

      So agree; it is actually so humiliating to even price a book like that... we are talking of Isaac Netwon for God's sake... and even worse to accept an offer so low. In my humble opinion, those are things that should never be sold and/or should belong to a museum or public library.

      But he’s the one that accepted the deals. The only the one to blame is himself, don’t try to blame the pawnstars for trying to make money for their business, they were straight toward to offer them that much . You still HAVE TO REMEMBER, the deals on the show is real, everything is upon the sellers decision to either sell it or leave it, the history channel aren’t making you do a performances on your personal item from what you’re trying to do from the start

      The old man was the king of the lowball. Rick's top dollar is almost always about 55-60 percent of his experts lowest number, and Rick would have been a lot more interested in this book than the old man was. I think he could have got 12 if Rick was the one negotiating

      It is in great condition. It was restored in the 1700s, but being that intact with the original bookmark folds is incredible... And even having a restoration that old hold up shows it was treasured for a long time. And now it's in a pawn shop. Unless none of this is real... Can anyone in Las Vegas go check and see how many museum quality pieces are in their shop?
