Toy Story is a 1995 American animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. The first installment in the franchise of the same name, it was the first entirely computer-animated feature film, as well as the first feature film from Pixar. It was directed by John Lasseter. Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear

I like to imagine Andy, now graduated from college and living life as an adult, furiously typing away on the internet about how this movie ruined his favorite childhood show.
This is the original movie Andy grew up on.
@@nathanfisher9794 And I refuse to acknowledge that.
Sounds interesting than this movie.
@@nathanfisher9794 there mustve been some bad movies back then for this one to get them to dedicate entire shelving to buzz lightyear toys
I just cant get over the fact they ignored the "i am your father", if the can copy interestelar why not that one quote
My personal headcanon is that this was a remake of the movie Andy watched as a kid, because there’s no way in hell they didn’t make toys of the cat. I was half expecting it to end by zooming out into a theater and adult Andy saying “eh, the original was way better”.
This movie is to Andy what Star Wars sequels are to us
Yes! I love a good retcon headcanon!
Out of the thearter after watching it thats what i thought cuz no way the visual effects and props and suits for the characters looked that good, realistacally if it wouldve come out in 1995 it probably looked more like a mix between Startship troopers and og Star wars and the shitty he man movie
My personal headcanon is that this movie doesn’t exist in the Toy Story canon and the actual inspiration for the buzz lightyear toy was the 2D animated series. A series that not only is shown being viewed by the toys in universe, but it’s actually a fun space adventure series that a young kid could reasonably watch and want to play toys of
Disney's thinking heads : Wrong ! This movie is the original one ! Now, sh*ut the fu*ck up and accept our sh*itty incoherent retcons !
The worst part about the ending is that they didn't show like an adult Andy watching the movie like with his kid or something, and just saying "What a cash grab."
He saw this being a kid
Jesus your stupid, watch the first 5 minutes of the movie and it answers your question
He saw this as a kid cause it came out in 95 for him

2 reasons why I hate this movie:
1) This movie is supposed to replace an already existing Buzz Lightyear movie.
2) Zurg is just future Buzz.
Unless we go with the theory that, with Time Travel being canon, Buzz Lightyear goes back in time and has sex with his mother, making him (and Zurg) his own father
@kaneaquino8295 no I just mean it really takes away all his evilness if he is just future Buzz, doesn't make it seem like Zurg is all that evil if it's just Buzz.
@@arkauthor oh I agree with that. I just wanna let folks know about this theory of how they'll pull a Futurama (When Fry had sex with his Grandmother, making him his own Grandfather) and spread #LightyearDidHisMom to Pixar. Either they have to go with this, or admit the cartoon is real and their movie isn't the movie Andy watched. Put them between a Rock and a Hard Place, lol
Still better than megamind 2 cause at least is has great animation
John Lasseter apparently h*ated the movie you're talking about
I think what could've made this concept work is that they needed to make it feel like it was released in 1995. The whole vibe just oozes that it was made in the 2020s and not the movie Andy saw to want a Buzz Lightyear.
I like to think that lightyear is meant was meant to be a reboot of the original 1995 film made by adult Andy, who wanted to stay faithful to the original story, but had his arm twisted by corporate executives until we got…this, just like Brian was in that one episode of family guy.
Yeah you're right, it doesn't feel like the 90, they should have casted Eddie Murphy
This *should* have been a parody of cheesy mid 90s action films, with all the aesthetic choices that entails. Now, I say this as someone progressive: If there was any recent movie where on-screen lesbian representation makes no sense to include, it would be this one. If Lightyear is supposed to be a successful, mainstream blockbuster released in 1995, then any attempt at lesbian representation would look very different. It would either be downplayed as a ”friendship” or overshadowed by a sci-fi element (one of them being an androgynous alien or something like that). There could have been some great meta commentary had they gone with this approach and actually lampshaded it. Perhaps they could have alluded to a director’s cut, some deleted scenes, a blooper reel; some complementary material that confirms that a lesbian romance was cut so as to avoid backlash.
@@inaneinacheve if Disney can get Eddie Murphy back, they would’ve done so with mulan 2.
@@doodelli oh sweet summer child, if there’s anything to learn from the woman king is that modern Hollywood will always rewrite history so that no matter what era, women, minorities, and queer folk will always come out on top!
Besides, they’re still people mad at this movie having Lessie’s in it so it’s almost like it’s still 1995.
Remember the old 2D Buzz Lightyear cartoon? Where Buzz goes on tons of adventures, try to stop Zurg, and there were a bunch of jokes? That was actually a more believable Buzz Lightyear movie than this Captain America wannabe.
I have the physical copy of that film. Absolute Classic 😌.
That cartoon is pretty good
They need to watch the 2d movie.
And a joke is stolen straight from star command. Also star command showed and didn't tell
XR the robot was funny as heck.
I’m still laughing at “I opened that on my school account” 😂😂😂
Just then the king felt true fear for the first time
They said this is the same movie that Andy saw that made him want a buzz light year. But they changed Zurg’s backstory to not being his father.
Does that not imply Star Wars exists in Toy Story and the game where Zurg says this is in fact just an in-universe reference to Star Wars?
They live in a universe like ours: full of retcons and added on lore
Which technically is still true for both. It’s clear that they’re treating some of the lines the toys say as if they’re random lines from the movie they’re in.
A good excuse would be the Zurg and Belt Buzz from ST2 were from a video game with a different story compared to the movie
Also, the suit Buzz wears throughout the entire movie is not the same as the one he wears as a toy.
Lightyear is a movie, it had characters, it started and ended, truly one of the movies of all time.
It's a really good movie, I like it alot.

The trailer made it look like this would be a galaxy spanning adventure, but instead took place mostly on one bleak hostile planet.
The most inaccurate part of the movie isn't all the plot inconsistencies or anything, its the idea that a movie from the 90s would have a gay kiss and actually get any merch.
Let alone passing off modern animation as 90s, cause we all know 90s animation was nowhere near as advanced as it is now (I’m sure somebody might give me an example of an exception)
@@nickantonian70 I mean I think the point is that it's supposed to be a live-action movie in-universe....
But even then it doesn't look like anything made in the 90s. Effects, cinematography, jokes, stylistic choices...
Or that they wouldn’t merchandise the hell out of Socks the cat.
Also how exactly do 2 women in a relationship get pregnant with a baby? Kinda a weird thing to put in a kids movie.
No way buzz lightyear toys or merch would be that successful if this was the movie they were based on. Concerned parent groups would blast this in movie into infinity and beyond for including the, illegal at the time, act of gay marriage. People were already pissed enough in 2022. No way the gay kids kids movie in 1995 sold bed sheets
“I just opened that on my school email” had me cackling
lmao same
If this was in no way related to Buzz Lightyear or Toy Story and were just a stand-alone movie, it would've been a pretty solid B Tier. Having to think about how it relates to Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story as a whole completely kills its potential.
I hate that they tried to make buzz have a "learn to rely on other people" character arc but they barely gave him any reason to do so. The side characters cause more problems than they solve, and they act like the inciting incident could have been avoiced if buzz listened to the random intern, but like? How? They dont give us any reason why
"You need to learn to be a team player, Buzz."
"Sure, but this team... Kinda sucks."
What’s kind of hilarious to me is this movie has even less reason to exist when you remember we already got a 2D animated movie and tv show about Buzz’s adventures
which ironically was more spectacular, more affecting, more epic and more logcial with the "Toy Story" canon
I would’ve preferred a story where Zerg was an old space ranger who became a power hungry dictator who starts a war with the galaxy and Buzz grows up to be a space ranger who goes to stop Zerg and near the end of the movie it’s revealed Zerg was Buzz’s father which everyone he knew kept a secret from which would make for really good drama as Buzz becomes confused and angry at the fact everyone he knew kept this huge revelation from him, but regardless he understands he has a mission and we ends up defeating Zerg.
They really thought making the future Buzz the villain was a good idea.
Your heroes, the characters you like, are really the bad guys, and you should like it when we replace them with worse and diverse copies.
Tbh it makes sense for what the original buzz is trying to do. Original buzz is the villain in this story because he is trying to find a way to escape a planet that everyone is already content and happy with. But because they couldn't make him the villain they made his future self one.
@@tamialade9630Trying to defend this pile of sh*t is a CRAZY hill to die on

I'm fully convinced this is the Disney live action remake, set within the Toy Story Universe.
Just how the toys watched the original animated Star Command movie

Pixar and Disney : The serie never existed! Only this movie does count in the "Toy Story" lore ! This is canon, because we say so !
The boys bringing up Buzz getting a girl pregnant might be kinda interesting. Like, he was with a woman then went off on his time trips. Because he was so focused on the trips and his lover met someone else, neither parent made the connection at first. The mom figures it out but by the time Buzz has slowed down, his GRANDKID is stuck on the planet with the other rejects, unsure of him/herself and afraid of space (basically taking Izzy's place in the plot).
Sounds like a more depressing version of Interstellar. Could work but it's Disney, which means it probably never happens.

it really wasn't the gay kiss that made it bad. (which on a planet that they can't get off of makes little sense for increase in population.) What made it hated was the fact that it essentially became Interstellar. That and the fact that the entire movie does not seem like it would launch the toy from Toy Story. The Buzz lightyear show fits that way better.

I don't know how this movie woulda made Andy want to buy a Lightyear, this movie felt very deflating and had a really weird message of trusting people who legit screw up at every turn yet somehow Buzz has to give up his determination to problem solve. This makes we wish we got an adaption of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command show for the big screen.

The movie's vibe is way too bittersweet for a 90s American kids' movie inspiring a toy line.
This movie doesn't make sense or tie-ins with Toy Story at all. Zurg was also wasted.
Why didn't we see any cute cat toy in "Toy Story"? Why did Zurg say Buzz was his son? Why did Zurg make a Z-shaped base?

IKR? If people hate this movie just for this one 8 second scene which is completely irrelevant to the story, then they need to grow up. I agree this movie is garbage, but this isn’t one of the reasons why.
Because queerphobes are snowflakes
The simple answer is each and every "controversy" like it only lasts so long, so even though the kiss itself was no more than maybe 10 seconds of the film, they were desperate for another controversy
I didn't even notice it on my first watch.
Until people started complaining about it.
I actually complained about it, but for a different reason. Canonically...this is the movie Andy watched as a kid that made him a fan of Buzz Lightyear. I don't think a movie during the time Andy was alive would be that progressive. I believe Toy Story takes place in the 90's. That's it though. The gay kiss in itself is harmless.
Spilling the Milk is just going through the most painful recent media list right now
Now everything makes sense: Andy gained buzz as a present and because the toy talked he preferred him than Woody. But after watching the movie lightyear he came back to loving Woody and making that toy his favorite again.
I am one of the few rare people that genuinely enjoys Lightyear, like it’s not phenomenal especially not by Pixar standards, but I still do get some enjoyment out of the movie.

I remember a cartoon reviewer I used to follow for their opinions on animation about how this movie wasn't so great and had flaws.
It was a good video, until the last moment, where they talked about how homophobes were actually right to criticize this movie because of not only the lesbian kiss, because apparently this movie "promotes artificial insemination" (since the couple has a kid) and it's"made to make the parent figure bad, since It came out on father's day in the US".

Interesting concept with the time travel. I don’t remember them showing it in trailers, so I was shocked in the movie theater. Most of the stuff I hate is just the nostalgia baiting with constant nods to Toy Story, the second half of the film and that whole text at the beginning going out of its way to say that this is the movie that inspired Andy to get a Buzz Lightyear toy, which I believe didn’t add much to the film.

Not to mention it doesn't make sense a literal kids movie from '95 would include something like that
My biggest gripe with this movie is that it does not feel like it would be a thing in the 90s. Especially since toy Buzz is based off the space aesthetic of that era.
We could have had a movie with a campy 90s vibe that would follow that old space aesthetic with cool action scenes. Like, the fact that Pixar didn’t play into that is such wasted potential
Sorry to go there but this movie wouldn't be from the 90s. Maybe underground as gay people were mentioned or joked about but not like this.
As someone who grew up in the 90s, gay stuff was either removed, joked about, indie scene, or implied. There is a perfect example in a 90s Tv show called Rescue 911 with William Shatner.
Even though it was OBVIOUS the woman was a lesbian, he called her partner a really good friend. Meanwhile the guy in drag who saved a bunch of people from getting shot at a gas station was allowed to explain what drag was.
He got hate but the people he saved were grateful.
This was painful to rewatch. I'm glad I missed the Twitch stream for this. I can see why it bombed so hard. Proof that people were used to watching Pixar films on Disney+ after Soul, Luca, and Turning Red were released there (and why those films have bombed at theatrical re-release--Luca will bomb too), and why Toy Story should not go on. But here we are with Toy Story 5 on the way. There's no way that Pixar is ever gonna recover again. Covid fucked everything up.
