Thank you so much for this video. My son Shay had an unsuccessful application this year for studying Economics at Corpus but his email stated he is eligible for the august reconsideration pool. After his initial disappointment he did not let this deter him from his dream of studying at Cambridge and he has studied with unwavering determination. I hope he gets his chance to be reconsidered on results day and after watching this video it is inspiring to hear such incredible news. Fingers crossed for Shay and massive congratulations to Nabilah and all potential future pooled applicants 🥰
Thank you for all the answers. I'm sorry but I have another question. At what point in the process do the admissions tutors access the A level results and would they receive notification of EPQ results. I know EPQ's are not considered in initial offers but I'm just curious as to whether they are automatically visible when the A level results are viewed.
Thank you for this video. Do you know whether all original applicants eligible for the reconsideration pool are offered the opportunity or is there an element of selection?
Hi Mike, good question! All original applicants who go on to meet or exceed the typical offer in their subject come the summer will be eligible for selection, provided that the pool opens in their subject (this depends on how much space is available in each subject). Colleges then choose from that pool of applicants who to make an offer to. So there's definitely an element of selection and no guarantee of success.
Thank you. Am I right to assume therefore that all eligible applicants would have the invitation indicated to them in their letter?
Hello. Could you explain please how a college assessing a candidate through the reconsideration pool considers the interview as those tutors did not conduct the interview themselves. . Thank you.
Hi Mike, Directors of Studies and Admissions Tutors will have short reports of the interviews to consider when they make their holistic assessments of August Reconsideration Pool applicants, and decide which to offer to.
Thank you
Are you likely to get picked up from the August pool if you weren't put in the Winter pool post-interviews?
Hi Nicole, yes, applicants can be picked up from the August Reconsideration Pool without having been placed in the Winter Pool!
@@CaiusSchoolsHi Caius, is this a rare case?
What would you say the odds are for getting into study maths if you’re August pooled?
Impossible to say, I'm afraid! It changes year on year and there is no clear pattern. For maths, you will need to take the STEP exam to be eligible (see www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/august-reconsideration-pool/faq)
Is there normally available places for medicine?
Hello Hiam! Yes, normally, because it's a very big subject. There are no guarantees, though, of course!
Hello,
Will students currently taking a gap year be considered, I am a student currently on a gap year and my college emailed me saying I will be but online people are saying different so I’m slightly confused.
Hi Faris, the best people to speak to are the admissions staff at your college - they have all the details of your application. I would get in touch with them to advise :)
Does oxford do the same?
Not as far as I'm aware
