    Watching now ☺️ Half-way through ... Just had to ad ‘Yes, it’s a WR-01. The 2WD version which was introduced with the Blackfoot Xtreme a couple of years later is the WT-01’. And ‘Yes, 20 bearings is not right. You need 16 x 1150 for the WT-01 and 24 x 1150 for the WR-01’ ... but you probably figured that out in the rest of the vid ... gonna continue watching now to see ☺️

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      22 bearings? Why? It’s 8 for each gear box and then 8 for the wheels ... 24

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great video mate. And great with the gears. The gears are super tough, but take a look at my spur gear in my Wild Dagger tear down to see how much metal-paste from the alloy pinion gears there are. Just the sight might make you change them to steel ☺️ But I get it. I too have cars, like the Grasshopper and Hornet, where I just left it alloy. And yeah, extremely low geared and dual motors and extreme torque ☺️ It’s a blast. A tip: get a couple of budget 50-100 pieces packs of 1150 bearings. So many Tamiya models use them. Much much cheaper to buy them in big lots, than a pack for each car (especially when even ripped off and you didn’t get all 24).

    Ah so a nice easy fix to the gearbox. I once fixed a friends RC and it was the same issue but harder to see as it was a TT-01 and the motor plate is inside. Nice vid. I look forward to seeing how this runs :-)

    I obviously missed part 1. 😞
    WOW that Brat looks GOOD!! 😁😁
    Wild Dagger is one I wanted that I couldn't.
    Back in NiMH days, that couldn't have had much runtime...
    I can imagine with a Lipo, you should get 20min to half hour!! 😎
    It looks lightly used and in great shape. The Lexan should still look good in the "City" livery.
    Bad luck getting SHORTED 2 Bearings!! 😠 It's the idea, not the cost, which is at least small....
    Cheers and stay SAFE! 😷

    If it’s from (RCDamper) their alloy Damper Tower Plate, then you’ll need, 95mm or 100mm dampers. If you haven’t already check out RCDamper, nice range of Alloy up-grade’s for the Twin Detonator type chassis. I would also recommend their Alloy Servo Mounts, it holds the servo so much better no side to side movement & keep an eye on the standard servo saver, terrible. Also the rere Blackfoot (& Bruiser) tires fit, if you like those better?

Mine is heavily modded but I have not taken it out for years and it needs a redoing. I put a couple of titan motors in it but I think I will upgrade them to brushless. Which means a new dual motor esc which I have no idea if they even make them for brushless motors these days.

    Great video, this model looks very similar to the Tamiya Baja Champ, the difference obviously being the tyres, chassis and the extra motor. I've seen a comment that Tamiya never actually used the name "WR-01", and that that name was made up by fans and hobby shops. I think Tamiya just called it the Wild Dagger chassis, since that was the first variant released.

  • @sanderdevolder4805

    Funny thing about those gearboxes in these kits: they come fully built up, so it seems someone in the Tamiya factory made a mistake screwing in the motor on the wrong pinion setting. It's either that or the previous owner opened the gearboxes up and made a mistake putting them back together. Great build, great result! Personally I'm going to build a new in box Twin Detonator in the near future that has all the suspension hop ups in alloy (cost about as much as the kit itself!) and 2 Sport Tuned Tamiya motors with the 20T pinions on. Can't wait to see that blasting through the garden. Keep up the good work, I will be watching many more of your vids!

    Here is mine that is heavily modified. I just dug it out of a bin in the garage and need to do a complete teardown of it and perhaps a new transmitter and receiver to modernize it a bit. I might get rid of the alloy arms as they don't seem as sturdy as the stock ones. Guess I will decide that on the teardown.

    I would invest in a carbon or alu chassis it cost 50 to 100euro but it is worth it because the orignal is a weakpoint its to hard after a few jumps my first one Cracks i repaired it but a little time later it happened again. So i bought a carbon chassis for 60euro and New oil shocks it was nearly perfekt after this 100% better driving than before;) nowdays i need a body but no way to find one new iam looking since 2 years for one. But its good to see in your Videos someone who keep vintage cars alive.

    I’m interested in seeing how quick it is and how it handles. I didn’t realise it was a twin motor. That’s a nice pickup 👍🤓🇦🇺

    Just catching up on some of your previous vids. I picked up one of these (Twin Detonator) before Christmas in similar condition new built, never run, shell to finish. Tore it down checked it over & rebuilt it. Put 2x cheap goolrc 3900kv brushless motors on 2x esc & 2x 3300mAh nimh battery & made it 4 wheel steering. (You need untimed motors - but you knew this) It was heavy so fitted 4x GF01 alloy dampers & stiffened up the springs. Result - fast but undrivable with 4ws & broke the suspension mount on the gearbox due to the weight. Conclusion - add mods slowly! Lol. Now runs on 20t pinions 2x silver cans, famous dual esc & a 5000mAh nimh. So what to do next...?
    Dremel out the battery bay for a lipo?
    Crawler motors & longer spring mod & 4ws?
    I watch you & nordicrc with interest!
    Have you painted it already? Go with the yellow!
    You can pick up white wheels from the Twin Det, I also found a 2nd hand set of gold chrome ones too. You know the Blitzer Beetle rear wheels are the same size right? You could use 2 sets of rear yellow stadium thunder wheels or white Stadium Blitzer ones. That might work! I have orange ones on mine to match the orange decals.

      You can also fit the standard cva mini shocks on too which I have fitted currently.
