  • Katherine has Autism and she needs an aide to provide for her study. At first, the aide was super nice to her and Katherine really really love her. Her aide was always a nice person but only when her parents are present. When her parent was absent, Things start to go wrong, she had a hard time figuring out why she was treated badly. Until one day she can not take any of the pressure anymore. she told her boyfriend and her parents about what happened to her. Her aide problem was taken care of, but she still has her brave new world to live and new people to meet. We hope she can get through society just smoothly and hope she meets some great friends after this. :)
We chose this story because we want to encourage people to speak up if something similar has happened to them and to seek help if they're still in such a situation. We hope this video will encourage people to feel empathy and compassion for those who have gone through such experiences. And we hope that it will encourage us all to do what we can to prevent these things from happening. Even if it does happen we want to encourage people to speak up for their own safety

I have autism too, specifically Asperger syndrome, and I’m shocked that someone that they trusted could do something so horrible. I’m fortunate none of my caregivers, aids, and other thoughts during my life never did any of those horrible things the Mrs. Sally did. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and upsetting to find out that there are people in this world who are in the medical profession of helping others on the autism spectrum That actually do the exact opposite and fool the people who they are supposed to eat along with their loved ones.

I've had to deal with this thing myself. An agency that got some funding from the state was verbally, psychologically and mentally abusive. Everytime I reported a staff person's misconduct, I would be accused of lying and/or being insane. One time, I reported the whole agency to the Lt. Governor's office, but the Day Program Director said that because I had lost my mom recently, I was "mentally unstable" and to be disregarded. I wound up getting myself out within a month, but I'm still dealing with the scars.

This hit me hard!!! I had a very similar situation with my autistic son. He had a care taker for him at school I got a call one day that zeck ( that's my son) was showing up late in class and got mouthy with his aid! When I asked him why he told me that she was mean! That she too would yell at him all the time and at one point she had dragged him to class by his arm!! 😱 I immediately got on the phone the next day with the school and asked to have a meeting with my son's aid and the principal. They said OK and we set up a meeting! She too said that zeck would often Lose focus or fight her on work! When I looked over at him he had that look of intimidation and I knew!!! I asked her how long she had been doing this to him!? She tried convincing me but I didn't budge I spoke to the superintendent and requested a new aid ASAP! turns out the aid quit and he has now had Mrs. Dylan his new aid and she is AMAZING!!! she builds him up and when he does well she gets his favorite treats and gives them to him! Parents HAVE to listen to they're children! That's the trouble alot is parents coward toward standing up to school system! If I've learned anything is YOU have to be the voice for those who can't because they are scared! Don't allow people to do this to your children LISTEN to them!!!

This angers me a lot. My younger cousin is autistic. Everyone calls her annoying and stupid for it. I love my cousin a lot. Show respect and help people that are different. It hurts to see people get bullied, get physically abused, even getting disowned. That hurts. When I'm older I want to help the poor people, homeless people, and help people with disabilities. This world is so cruel.

    • @savannahhague4989

I feel you. Believe it if not I am autistic but no one can tell I have that unless I tell them. I had teachers in kindergarten that told my mom that the reason why they won't teach me us because they think I'd be nothing of value because if what I had. But because my mom didn't believe them, she homeschooled until fourth grade and not only did I make friends really well there, I am a college student who's one more year away from getting a major degree in theatre after completing a minor degree in music and I can do a lot of things more than others can, such as write poetry, okay instruments, sing, act, and speak fluent Spanish when my teachers told my mom I wouldn't learn to even read it speak English. The thing about autistic kids is that people like that can see and feel things on a deeper level than others who are "normal" can but they can't express it because it's too overwhelming to describe the things. All I can say is that just because we aren't understood doesn't mean we're stupid, it just means we have a different form of intelligence than the normal ones do. I hope that when I become an actress, I'd become an advocate for people like that because I know what it's like for them. I believe that they have the potential to change the future of our country for the better but that's only if our country can really accept people who are born differently and not worry about man-made differences, such as lgbtq needing acceptance.

I have an answer to that. I have very similar experiences as her, except that it happened with my own mother.
For most guardians and parents, unless they're educated on the condition and understand what is needed for an autistic, most of them will struggle with it and apply the wrong techniques that are usually reserved for neuro typical kids (or what you would call 'normal'). And when they find the techniques don't work, they take their frustrations and resentment out on the child. Parents find it hard to accept and get the right kind of resources because they're embarrassed that they have a child that's different from the rest, or therapy is just too expensive. So they just manage ineffectively on their own. These scenarios are more common than you think.
As for the boyfriend, that's exactly what happened with most of my peers. They're either so shocked that they just couldn't deal with it, so they leave; or they try to help, but after a while, they get frustrated and resentful, then leave too. It is only much later into adulthood that I got the right kind of support. And I'm considered fortunate. Too many have been left neglected in homes for autistic adults who cannot assimilate into mainstream society, unemployed or even homeless.
There are other autistic adult-children walking silently among us. We fear to reach out because, to be honest, people don't know what to do with us. Educating the public becomes key in dispelling the myths and we need to learn to protect ourselves, as our conditions leaves us open to abuse when there's imbalance of powers in relationships, be it personal or in the workplace.

Wow, just wow...anyone who harms a child deserves to suffer, but to see it done to an autistic child just makes me want to cry. I just want you to know that people who dont support you and get you the help you need are not worth it, and that includes your family. As someone who is mildly autistic, I've found that the thing that helps the most is to be around people who love you. It's up to you, but I would tell your classmates everything. Just spill the beans, and you might be surprised how people react to your story. If anything, it will be better for you mentally than to keep it inside. As for college, my advice is not to worry. As long as you work hard and go to class, you'll do great. Your professors will be willing to help you, and you'll have advisors and teachers assistants by your side. Find what you love to do, pursue it like a person possessed, and nothing will stop you.

I am autistic, and I also had a teacher's aide when I was in elementary school. Her name was Mrs. Petrie. And I am very thankful that Mrs. Petrie was very kind to me (Even on my bad days). God bless her and her family! I think that Miss Sally deserves to go to prison for physically and emotionally abusing Katherine when she was a little girl. No kid deserves to be abused by someone who is supposed to be caring for and supporting them.

She was physically and emotionally abused by a teacher and her parents didn't believe it? I had a math tutor in elementary school who was great at first. She helped me learn times tables. But when we hit long division I had a lot of trouble, and my tutor got really frustrated. She'd just give up trying to teach me each time and told me I could leave. One day she just seemed to snap and started yelling angrily at me and hitting the table each time she yelled, "no, no, no!" whenever I couldn't solve the problem correctly. I'd be really scared when showing her my work because I knew it'd be wrong and I knew she'd fly off the handle. I tried not to cry in front of her because it would probably set her off again. When I left for that day, I told my mom what happened, and my mom stopped taking me. I've had a math block ever since then. I had to get an exemption from taking math in college because I kept failing every class I took and just couldn't understand it no matter how much tutoring, testing, practice and help I got. I think I would've been bad at math anyway, but might've been able to get through it. Now I get panic attacks whenever I have to do math. I don't want to think of how much worse it'd have been if my tutor had actually hit me and physically abused me.

This is messed up. Things like that can stick to you for your whole life. I feel bad for the person and I hope she’s doing well right now! And making her way out of the past and loving her life.

I witnessed something a lot like this back in elementary school. There was this one boy; we’ll call him Tim; he was the sweetest person, but had trouble keeping up in class and had recently moved from another country, so he needed an aid. Mrs. M. Had been around since I was in kindergarten, as a teacher’s assistant and such, and she really seemed like she hated us; constant yelling, etc., but nowhere near as much as with Tim. She constantly berated and insulted him. She made it her mission to destroy his self-esteem rather than helping him. Rather than help him reach his potential, she convinced him that he had none. He was such an intelligent and caring person, too. Emotional abuse is real abuse, and it doesn’t necessarily come from parents. We treat “special needs” portions of society like crap and that needs to change. I have no idea where he is, but I just wanna tell him how wrong she was about him. I didn’t speak up back then, and that kills me.

If I seen someone being bullied, holding in anger over the years can make someone snap worse. People who treat people with autism unequally is sickening. If someone does that they have a huge punishment if they did that in front of a principal they’d have a bigger problem then being expelled.
