Randy, the code on the engine V0911CKX reads like this: V= for the Flint, MI plant - 09 = September - 11 = 11th day of the month - CKX = a 350-2 barrel out of a model year 1973 Camaro. I can tell you a lot more if you contact me with block casting number, cylinder head casting numbers, all the other stuff is after market (maybe the heads too) Here's an image I created, the page from a book to show you the year and an insert with all the info for the CKX engine. CKX was also used in a 1975 Nova: 350-4 barrel. And for a 1976 Corvette 350-4, this is the L-48 engine. All three engines have the smog era 8.5:1 compression ratio. i.ibb.co/9HJm7rm/Randy-Engine.jpg

Regardless of the body in the rear you have a solid front clip lots of good chrome and a very good interior. Not only that you have what seems to be a very solid drivetrain, it's very sad about the rear fram but you are giving life to another or possibly two other vehicles and that's amazing.

Check behind the left cylinder head for the block code cast into the block just ahead of where the trans bolts up, then look it up online. that will tell you engine size & year range & maybe the model it came out of.

To ID it, look at the VIN stamped on a pad behind where the alternator is and then Google that. You could try looking up various casting numbers but the VIN is easier.

Get the third El Camino. They actually did make an El Camino with the SS Monte Carlo front clip, so if the one you were talking about in the prior video is a real SS El Camino they are not that common anymore. All of the GM "G" body cars were great and very cheap to work on.

  • @TheOcculus
    @TheOcculus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

CKX suffix is three possible 350 engines.
Two possible L48 4 bolt main blocks with that suffix came in a 1972 OR 76 vette.
The other possibility was an L65 350 with 2 bolt mains that came in a 1973 Camaro.
The block casting number behind the LH head won't tell you what main caps they machined the casting for. Only way to know is to pull the pan.

Randy strip it down and get everything off it and put it in the other El Camino. Frame damage is a nightmare. Store the motor for another project since you’re keeping the other one original, which is cool 😎. Then scrap what’s left over and get some of your money back. You’ll make it up on the other one . You can always sell some parts online to and make some money back. The other one sounds like a good runner. I would go with that one too !!!

If you could weld, I would say to cut the top and windshield frame from the Chevy and attach it to the GMC. It shouldn’t be too difficult for a pretty decent body man to do for you. Perhaps Mike (Santa’s Workshop) could help you or direct you to someone who could do the job. I’m pretty sure Weird Beard could handle the job but, I don’t know how your relationship with him is presently. Once that is accomplished, do a swap of the complete drive train, interior components, and trim pieces. Scrap the Chevy remains and keep the engine and trans to sell or use in another project. That’s a lot of work but, with the two that you have, I don’t see any other options..

@@richardbates2367 Yep, I wasn't aware they used the 200C with a v8, maybe they felt comfortable with the anemic v8's of the time. The 5.0 in my 81 Elco came with TH350C and my '84 Elco with 231 has the BOC TH250C, both have been trouble free and honestly, the TH250C amazes me it's still going, must have a million miles on it or at least over 200k, still shifts like a dream. Basically the same as TH350C except 2nd gear clutch is a band.
I've never been inside a 200C but I'm gonna guess the 200C has a bad rap partly due to misadjusted TV cables. They're pretty light weight so the 200 version I think people use for drag cars (beefed up no doubt).
Pretty sure the 250/350/C are longer so you have to swap driveshaft and crossmember if you go that route.
I've got a BOC 200C sitting right here on a chair for years, no plans to use it but can't bring myself to toss it, either.

V0911CKX = Flint Plant - September 11th - CKX = 1972 Vette 200HP 4 barrel; or 1973 Camaro 145HP 2 Barrel; or 1976 Vette 180HP 4 Barrel, and all were automatics, you need other numbers off the block for better information.

Shame it got hit. That frame was solid. Rare to find a solid metric car here in Iowa.

Check the the block stamp by the bell housing area trans is either metric 200 or 200r4 and rear is a 7.5 and if you sell the tail lights let me know I’d be interested in buying them

    CKX is either a 1972, 1973, 1976 350 4bbl.The trans should be a 200r4. The rear is 7.5.

Any possibility of finding a body frame from a salvage yard alongwith other body parts.. may be a project for your fellow youtuber friends.
