Mixing cinnamon and brown sugar might actually work better than either by itself. The cinnamon might help make the brown sugar more dry and powdery while the brown sugar will probably stick to the cinnamon and actually carry it up in to the cotton candy. Wish you'd tried that.

They're completely different chemically, they simply won't turn into anything you'd want to eat. They certainly wouldn't caramelize, or melt at the same temperature.
