This was a great song, folky, heavy and proggy... This document is quite unique as it was apparently hardly ever played live. Very nice version, very close to the original, with a few mistakes by Ian on flute. The song could have easily replaced a few weaker tracks on Rock Island.
Thanks for the live version! I never knew they ever performed it on stage. The studio version is a great speaker tester because of the full sound spectrum the song contains. At high volume I get a chill on final sonically augmented phrase of "Part of the machine".
Such a great song. Too bad it never caught on as a concert staple. Heard it once live in NYC in 1998. Wonder what happened at around the 3:15 mark. Thanks for posting.
there will never be a band like Tull
You speak truth of My God
I don’t care what anyone says about this JT lineup, they were solid. Ian’s voice soooo good on this tremendous track.

He Was ~This Was •Great
One of my all time favorite Tull Songs. It has everything.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time.
First Tull show for me was Oct 1979 Boston Garden. Dave Pegg had just joined the band.
Still have that freshness even after all these years.. Classics, never get old, never die out ❤
Really like this song! Martin burns on this!
Saw them play this at Great Woods in Massachusetts in 88
A highlight of the show!
Best in the World
Favourite Tull song of all. Sadly never saw it sung live.

Ian just straight up made a mistake, that's all. Very rare to see a flub so blatant from him. Only human after all.
