There are more songs that sound exactly the same out there! We have some really good examples of some pretty close calls for you today. How much can you "borrow" from other songs? Can you sue someone for copying a song that you already copied in the first place? In this video we get to listen to such artists as Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, Meghan Trainor, Jennifer Lopez and MORE!

I think Ed and TLC is the pacing of the singing that makes people think they sound similar. I agree with you they don’t sound enough alike for the others to be credited.
yeah I agree, Shape Of You and No Scrubs have enough differences to not be considered a "copy", but if Ed Sheeran was thinking of that song when he wrote SOY then I guess it makes sense to credit the writers of No Scrubs

Tbh, I can understand Lana Del Ray shooting Radiohead down, they were greedy af. They wanted 100% of royalties because they inspired a song with their inspired song? That's insulting
Sure but that doesn't make it right
🗿
she probably didn't even write the song though, Radiohead did. Grunge/rock > pop
it was probably beggars group seeing an opportunity, and going ahead with it without contacting the band.
I like Creep but Radiohead is really being greedy here. It's not so hard to uninententionally come up to that melody with that chord progression

As someone who enjoys both Radiohead and Lana, and really the entire emo/grunge/punk genre, when I first heard the Lana song I thought it was a Radiohead tribute piece. Like her putting her own spin on it at that part, so I can 100% see that.
When he called the song “lorando sa fu” I was like 👁👄👁wat
The "Shape of you" + "No scrubs" bit was pretty cool!
“What did I miss?” Me everyday getting confused by basic things
I think when someone tries to sue Ed Sheeran whether he think he’s in the wrong or not he’ll pay them just because he’s a nice person or maybe because he doesn’t wanna go to the courts and all the legal stuff cuz it’s such a hassle.
"Whatever let them copy eachother, I don't care" 😂😂😂 I dont know why that part is so hilarious to me.
I agree that Radiohead is a wee bit slow..Richard Cheese version is more upbeat and catchy, 10/10 would recommend.
My mom and brother know Lambada they played this song for me when we were out once it's amazing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Getting copyrighted for a chord is dumb.
Can I just say, the footage of people moshing at the Radiohead song Creep is SOOO 90's!!!!
I don't know why I laughed so much when Joel said "Llorando se fue” like "lorando se fu” which means "Crying, she left” is Spanish.
Oh man! Radiohead totally stole half their song from The Hollies, Lana's song was worth the 40% she offered them and for them to ask for 100% shows poor decision making skills. But ah, everyone has an opinion don't they?
so true, listening to the full lana song, only the intro is similar to ANY part of creep. they didn't deserve anything more than 40%, terrible decision making.
Interpolation is when you include something by remaking it instead of sampling it directly from the original song.
"I'm confused" "I don't see it" -Doesn't compare the similar segments between Creep and The air that i breathe.
I just have to say that Joel, I love him, he's great, but he's wrong about Creep, it is one of my favorite songs to sing and I will fight him all day in honor of Creep and Radiohead in general

_Roomie doesn’t like Creep by Radiohead?????_
*This is the first time I will give a critique of your channel, but I will try to be respectful.* I like ya Joel, but I personally feel that your taste in music, including the stuff you produce, is mostly over produced cookie-cutter manufactured sounds. But I do realize that taste is completely subjective and it is not fair to criticize ya for disliking a song. I like your content though I do see our taste is pretty radically different. I can appreciate your technical skill. But it is similar to how I feel about Maroon 5, there is technical skill, but stylistically it feels like it was made for cookie-cutters. I don’t want that to sound too harsh. And again it is just taste ultimately.
I personally choose a combination of style, uniqueness, lyrical themes (talking about stuff other than relationships, mostly, or at least doing it in a more unique, real way), and overall mood over vocal technical skills that cater to a vocal contest more than a medium-sized rundown venue. I just feel it’s more relatable and says something a little more real. To me it is the difference between a freethinker who expresses themselves authentically and someone who just fits into the frat or preppy style.
Again, I hope this doesn’t come out as sounding hateful-I am a regular viewer and a longtime subscriber. I miss your series of talking about making ridiculous arguments-those are hilarious. Also, I did appreciate your chorus line and runs in Pewdiepie’s “Congratulations.”
Does anyone else feel similar about this?

8 months later I am still struggling to contain the exorbitant amount of disappointment I felt when Roomie dissed Creep
After watching quite a few of his videos, it's pretty clear he has very little to no patience for slow paced music and vocals. Considering his musical preferences though, that really shouldn't be surprising. He's very much into the High Energy and poppy music which defines the majority of more modern day and mainstream music. He's more into the dramatic highs/lows and the clear contrasts. Modern production techniques also seems to be something he holds as a standard of good music. Radiohead's Creep is a very slow paced song even for slow music. It has definite power and I feel it has an introspection that maybe isn't Roomie's forte. I noticed that while he has a higher appreciation for good song writing, he doesn't really delve into the lyrics all that much for context or meaning.
All in all, he's very much a mainstream artist with preferences in that vein of music. That isn't to say he can't appreciate other kinds of musical influences but it's clear he doesn't stray too far from his lane. Radiohead is definitely more niche even among people who listen to rock music more. Iconic definitely and a huge success as a band but not everyone's cup of tea. Admittedly, Creep is not the most interesting choice of music when it comes to the more technical aspects of song writing as well.
@@darkjesterxiii Good analysis!
I totally agree-and I just started watching his videos. Not cool. I feel like he had never heard the song before, and then called it “boring”. 🤦🏾😬😳
