      They would technically still have years of eligibility because there was no team anymore so if they were a sophomore and played their first 2 years and they got rid of the football team when it came back they would still have 2 more years unless they transferred

      Dummy, they were going to operate at a loss. In their words "it didn't make financial sense". Meaning they could have saved it by getting help earlier. They could have operated the program at a loss until aid was provided or another financial avenue opened. It was well known it was a business decision not a necessity.

    • @cc-tz6kq
      @cc-tz6kq 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yo think about this. The team was in a bowl drought for 10 years right? People were getting mad, of course they still loved the team, but they were getting tired of losing. A lot of people lost passion. The decision comes out to end the program and outrage ensues the entire state. Hype is generated, people that hadn't been to a game in years are saying where the fuck is UAB football? After two years they have enough money ($23 mil) to build an operations center and a $5 million practice field. That sounds like they had a comfortable amount to work with and probably got a lot of people bonuses. Two years ago they didn't even have enough money "to keep the team competitive". Now the team is heading to their first bowl since 2004.
      With all that in mind... do you think that would have happened if they hadn't ended the program? Do you think they did all of it on purpose? I mean...you don't end a college football program every day.. or year.. or decade. I'm not saying that it's definitely the reason or even that it had anything to do with it. I'm simply speculating. Maybe this has been spoken on before. I just thought it was interesting the lengths they would go to to make some money. They really broke those guys' hearts for it.
      And if you do think it was on purpose...was it worth it?

      College football is all about money. The kids still got their scholarships Their good players transferred I know of 2 that went to the nfl. I do feel bad for the kids but as we all realize some day life is filled with ups and downs life isn’t fair and nobody owes you anything.

With all the people crying about the program being taken away. I want to know how many actually went to a game. That what it will take to keep the team.

    As someone from Birmingham I find it interesting that the university never acknowledged that a big reason no one came to the games is the fact that Legion Field is in a very rough part of town and there is very little secure parking. People never felt safe going to the games because they were afraid that their car may be stolen. Instead of finding a proper solution to that problem they just decided to cut the program because it was easier. I was so glad when they came back it was great for the community.
