  • Happy Late 4th of July! I know it's late, I was very busy yesterday celebrating my brother's birthday. So happy birthday to my brother AND America!
    If you didn't know, "The Stars and Stripes Forever" is a patriotic American march written and composed by John Philip Sousa in 1896. By a 1987 act of the U.S. Congress, it became the official National March of the United States of America

    Pro tip: If you're at a circus and you hear the band play this song, stay calm, but get up and head for your nearest exit immediately. It's code for "something bad is up and we need the rest of the circus crew on alert, but we don't want to cause a panic."

      Sousa's mother was German, but I don't know offhand how much she influenced his musical sensibilities. :)
