This was so much fun to watch! Nice work! “Oblio” was the name of the main character in “The Point” an album/story by Harry Nilsson - a favorite of Robyn and me. The music box was never fixed because we never rendered a better image of it opened… and never created an animation of it actually playing.

Thank you so much for this reply, it gives us the closure I was hoping for. I had a lot of fun putting this talk together. I have even more appreciation now for this game and the work it took to create it. 30 years later and we are still here solving its mysteries...

When I unlocked my copy of Myst back in maybe 2006 or earlier, instead of changing the type and creator of every stack, I modified HyperCard so it would open the various Myst files directly.
Since then, when I play Myst, I usually use the numerical version of the code to leave Mechanical Age (how many times I must click on each button) instead of the symbols themselves and their order.

Did you ever hear from Rand about whether the password is correct? All I could find was that "oblio" is Italian for "oblivion," which would certainly be an interesting choice of password. Did any Italians work on Myst?

59:30 for a 32-bit hash the expected point to get a hash collision is after hashing ~78k uncorrelated inputs. Your dictionary itself should already be generating some collisions.

@@rabb1t894 I'm thinking of maybe going into all the stacks and extracting all of the scripts and sticking them onto a Github or something. That way people can explore the code without needing to actually setup an emulator, find a copy of the disc, etc. For me it would be a fun scripting project to automate the process of extracting scripts from stacks!
I mean, unless Rand would rather we not? :)
