My thermostat, does not turn off the system at all. It was on for few hours, I turn the fan from auto to on and if finally stopped blowing cold air. Everything that you say was very helpful. Thank you.
The fan comes on but the rest of the thermostat will not work. We replaced the thermostat and used wire strippers to expose a fresh set of wires. Even with the new thermostat, the fan comes on but the rest of the thermostat will not work. Do you know what the issue could be? Thanks for sharing!
If we have the same issue as this video what can be the problem. I replaced the thermostat and still nothing turns on. I tried junping it from the thermostat and nothing. Not getting 24v to thermostat. I jump it from the main board and it works fine only.
Possibly a broken low-voltage wire inside the wall. When you remove the thermostat, you should have a spare wire twisted behind it. You could try installing that wire instead of the red wire on terminal R. And install the same wire color on the main board on terminal R as well. If that doesn't work, you may need to feed a brand-new wire cable through the wall... not fun.
Great video. Question: I put in fresh batteries. But the heat furnace does not go on when Thermostat is on "Auto" and I up the temp above room temp. But when I put Thermostat on 'Manual Fan", the fan turns on. But it only circulates air, not heated air. Do you think it's my Thermostat or the furnace?
Here are a few reasons that the outdoor condenser unit is short cycling: Weak batteries in the Thermostat. Loose wires at the Thermostat, Air-Handler/Furnace, or Condenser. Clogged air filter or the outdoor condenser unit. The Contactor going bad. The Capacitor going bad. The outdoor Fan going bad. The Over-Flow Switch is full of condensate water and tripping. Refrigerant leak, low Freon, iced up tubes, clogged metering device, bad compressor... the last line is a major problem for which you need to call a tech.
@YourSelf I have experienced some Honeywell thermostats which partially works and doesn't! Some will work only in the cooling section know as the RC. RC will make contact with both G (Fan) and Y (compressor) not in the heat mode between R & W for heat Or Vice versa!
I definitely agree these are safe ways of testing a thermostat but honestly I would change batteries 1st if no change then I'd buy a cheap $15 dollar thermostat and see if it makes a difference because having a back up never hurts. But all this does is remove the thermostat from being a problem most of the time it's a broken or loose wire, blown fuse, or another cheap easy to fix part the expensive part of heating and cooling always comes down to labor cost and usually doubled hourly rate for emergency calls
Thank you for your video. You have mention about C terminal and batteries. Question 1: Without batteries, I wouldn't able to see the temperature numbers. Is it a good idea for everyone? Question 2: With the batteries and C terminal, can I have both of these items?
You need either batteries or the C terminal connected for the thermostat to work at all. But it's best to have both in case of a power failure, so you don't lose your programmable thermostat settings.

Our furnace wasn’t coming on. Thermostat had no led readings on it, pulled the cover off and replaced aaa batteries. Still no led readings so removed batteries and they were very hot! Not sure if thermostat needs to be replaced, any thoughts?
Did you put batteries in with the correct polarity? I'd take the cover off again and experiment with batteries. The LED screen should light up in your hands, even before you put it back on the wall. If the LED is dead, try other batteries. Otherwise, the thermostat is bad.

I have one wire going to rc and no c wire connected. How do i proceed instead. My issue is it kept turning back on with or without the face of thermostat without staying off.
Thanks for the great video! Question for u. Our thermostat Keeps turning the fan on and off as we usually keep it on auto. The furnace downstairs seems to be working as we are able to turn the heat on/off however the fan keeps turning on then a few mins later back off. We put new batteries that doesn't seem to be the issue. We removed the thermostat off the wall completely and it is still clicking itself on and off. Is that a thermostat issue or a wire issue?
If you have a single thermostat and removed it completely from the wall, this could be a wiring problem or computer board in your Furnace/Air Handler problem. If you removed just the face plate from the thermostat, the problem could be with the back plate.
Thanks for your help. I have a single pole thermostat going to wall heater. I have replaced the thermostat two weeks ago and now it will not operate the heater. I have almost the same thermostat just not programmable. The temp reads 76 when off. If I turn on and set lower than temp reading it will shoot up to 81 degrees even while blowing cool air. The light on the thermostat will also flash on several times while running, not cycling on and off. Please advise.
This is definitely weird. What's behind the wall where the thermostat is attached to? Maybe washer/dryer running at the same time, warming up the wall? Maybe the wires are crossed and AC is running together with furnace/heater? Maybe the thermostat is simply bad... hard to say without being there to investigate.
We have the same Honeywell thermostat, ours only show inside temp, nothing else and it doesn't respond to any button presses anymore. We checked the breaker but that's not the issue.
Mine is hooked into RC and small jumper to R. The thermostat just stays at the same temp no matter heat or ac with new unit can I still jump R to G in order to test or do I need to remove the jumper between Rc and R?
The R and Rc are the central point of power for both Heating and Cooling. So they have to be jumpered together and, essentially, is the same thing. Use either one to connect to the G terminal. However, if the unit is new, maybe it's not connected correctly at the thermostat or the Air Handler/Furnace?
I have an issue where my cooling tower constantly runs. A service tech said it could be the thermostat, but did not sound certain. What would your thoughts be?
I'm not sure exactly what your referring to with cooling towers I've never Hurd of a residential cooling tower there usually part of some kinda industrial application like nuclear power plants and all a thermostat does is control the power on and off when a set temperature is called for
When I press the arrow, nothing happens anymore. Only when I hit "set" I can change temps. Also it's ignoring any set temps and is cooling for hours without stopping.
What if your heater won't shut off when it reaches the ste temperature? Mine stopped shutting off yesterday. Therm8is really old, so I'm assuming that's the problem, but idk.
If you don't see any uninsulated wires inside the thermostat touching each other, and you didn't drill any screws into the wall yesterday, the thermostat is probably bad.
Hello. My A/C works fine, however, when the set temperature is reached, the compressor and fan don't turn off together. Only the compressor turns off, and the fan blows continuously, and I have it set to AUTO. When the temperature goes back up again, the compressor turns on. But fan is running 24/7. Could this be a thermostat to relay issue?
The thermostat switch from AUTO to ON could be stuck internally, so the thermostat needs to be replaced (try wiggling the switch back in forth vigorously to unstick it first). Or it could be a wiring issue. If the wire from the G terminal is touching the wire from the R terminal, the fan will continuously run. These wires without the insulation could touch inside the thermostat, inside the wall, or inside the Air-handler/Furnace.
My thermostat runs the fan on furnace but outdoor ac unit won't switch on,already replaced capacitor, any help out there,Thanks in advance!(also has jumper already installed) new batteries in thermostat also
Weak batteries may not be able to close the Contactor outside. A bug or an insect could be squashed inside the Contactor, so it can't make a good connection. One or both thin wires running from the house to the AC condenser outside could be cut, chewed, or loose. Tripped high voltage breaker. Is the compressor running, humming, but the fan doesn't, or totally quiet in the outdoor unit? Did it ever work before, or you just moved in and don't know the history? And what jumper are you talking about, R to Rc?
@@Your-Self it worked last summer fine, so I put in a new capacitor still nothing but when I depressed the plunger on the contactor by hand the AC unit turns on but the contactor won't pull in when I use my thermostat in the house to start the AC there were no bugs between the contacts and the jumper I'm talking about was inside my thermostat inside the house
*** looks like my reply didn't go through, here is a copy*** So the A/C works, that's great. Now you need to make sure the Contactor receives about 25 VAC (on the thinner side). If you see the voltage but the plunger is not closing, replace the Contactor. If you don't see the voltage, trace it back to the house to figure where you are losing it. (Working with electricity could be dangerous so if you are not comfortable, please call a professional.)
Thank you for sharing vid, I did just that changed batteries. But what is strange heats on all day and turns down at night. Question, on the back shows Electric or Heat Pump....or Gas or Oil? Mine is in Gas
Gas company came over and checked the furnace, and glass it’s working great. But I can’t get the heat to reach the set temp, it seems to be stuck between 17-19 degrees Celsius.
If your furnace continuously runs, maybe the duct in the attic or basement is torn/damaged or partially disconnected so you are losing some warm air to outside. What is your thermostat is set to, and what is the temperature outside?
YourSelf it’s currently -18. It seems to work fine until it gets cold out, and than it won’t reach any higher. Maybe I should check the venting.. thanks
I think I missed something. I have an upstairs thermostat that doesn't work but my downstairs works fine. I tried the steps and nothing is happening. I need help 😫
Turned my AC off but will still blow. Turn it to heat and clicks but no heat just cool air. Also seems like it never cuts off no matter what it’s set to. Any idea?
@@jordanyoung2701 someone came to check my ac today and said I need to replace the whole part where the fan is at inside. We are getting a second opinion tomorrow.
If your C terminal is connected but the thermostat has no power, check/reset the breaker. Next, the overflow-switch could be triggered in your Air Handler (furnace). Make sure the condensation water goes down the drain easily. Maybe the small fuse is blown. But in this case, it's best to call a tech to look for a short.
My problem is my thermostat is directly across from my inside unit I also have the outside AC fan but the problem is when I plug in the unit across from the thermostat it stays on whether or not I flip switches off on the thermostat how do I fix that

Will the paperclip trick work even if my thermostat screen isn't working even with new batteries
With a paperclip. you are bypassing the thermostat. So the AC should work. If it doesn't, you may have some other issue besides the thermostat.

Ok
My exact issue
Mr. YourSelf: Thank you very much for your great videos! can you please make short video on outdoor unit short cycles reasons?. Thanks
Here are a few reasons that the outdoor condenser unit is short cycling:
Weak batteries in the Thermostat.

Mine was the clicking noise from the reverse valve. Honeywell is doesn't like colmens hvac.
Great Job,but I changed the battery of thermostat but it still blank no works.
Very good video
Thanks for watching!
Ok thanks i changed it out but sometimes it goes off and comes right back on
What if your heater won't shut off when it reaches the ste temperature? Mine stopped shutting off yesterday. Therm8is really old, so I'm assuming that's the problem, but idk.
Thermostat***
If you don't see any uninsulated wires inside the thermostat touching each other, and you didn't drill any screws into the wall yesterday, the thermostat is probably bad.
@@Your-Self Thanks.
I have a green wire in W and a red wire in Rc... I've had an electrician come out and fix it but its usually stopped working after about a week.
When I turn on cold the inside temp appears on left side of thermostat and nothing happens. I turn on heat and heat works. Why no cold?
(Not an expert) make sure there is a jumper between R and Rc.
*** looks like my reply didn't go through, here is a copy***
So the A/C works, that's great.
@@Your-Self hey all good traced the low voltage wire to a cut wire from remodeling basement works fine now Thanks
thank you nice and easy
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing vid, I did just that changed batteries. But what is strange heats on all day and turns down at night. Question, on the back shows Electric or Heat Pump....or Gas or Oil? Mine is in Gas
If you have gas-furnace, keep the setting on Gas/Oil.
What if it electricity
Saved me. Thanks
Glad it helped!
Maybe I should check the venting.. thanks
I have a white and black wire thst came off my thermostat and none of them is connected to C. I have a pro 1 t-701. Could you please help?
Great Video
Thanks for watching!
How do I change from Celsius to Fahrenheit it’s stuck idk how to go back
I think I missed something.
Any idea?
Mine is doing the same thing did you ever find out what was wrong?
@@sheylazamora1654not yet. I’m trying to test to see if it’s the thermostat tonight. Might just change it to see if that helps
@@jordanyoung2701 someone came to check my ac today and said I need to replace the whole part where the fan is at inside. We are getting a second opinion tomorrow.
@ I hope it’s something simpler than that for you. That sounds expensive.
Can i jump start if i dont have c hooked up
Hello where can i fine that exact thermostat please
I tried everything you said, and still no heat. But, then again, I haven't paid the gas bill in months.
lol
Do you turn the power off from down in the basement
For this test, the power should be ON.
@@Your-Self what does it mean when the thermostat will not power on unless batteries are installed.
@@Your-Self 🙏🏽 a lot
Good video helped me troubleshoot down to what the cause of my problem was. It was a 15 amp fuse on my furnace on and off switch it was blown.
Glad it was helpful, and thanks for watching!
My problem is my thermostat is directly across from my inside unit I also have the outside AC fan but the problem is when I plug in the unit across from the thermostat it stays on whether or not I flip switches off on the thermostat how do I fix that
thank you man!!
Why did you set 82 degree when you wanted to turn heat on?
You need to set the thermostat temperature higher than the room temperature to start the heater.
@@Your-Self OK, thank you.
