      I feel bad for Japan now since while the game is more "friendlier" and easier to progress (Though Spyro sound more of a child in his Japanese accent), it didn't go as well as the rest of the world that they didn't released the Reignited Trilogy in Japan, which now I feel like they don't deserve this kind of criticism...

    Another addition to the Japanese version of Spyro 2 is that the level intros and outros are given full voiceovers; with Spyro and his friends in Avalar commenting on the happenings within.
    In the outro for Metropolis, Spyro humorously pretends to be a worker robot in trouble with it's boss.

    It's really a shame Spyro didn't get a fair chance in Japan because of this. I really wonder about those Japanese testers who got motion sickness from it, I find it hard to believe that it would be common enough amongst a significant number of testers for it to seem like those radical changes were necessary.

      *But is different when it comes to translating it into game design, mostly games are mean to kids or families to play, so anything that is cultural different could make them uncomfortable or something with the design, anime is like cartoon, day is for kids and night is adults, the kids don't see the same mature anime we do on-line since it would cause a lot of trouble as letting adult swim into day schedule*

      @@NicolasSilvaVasault It's mainly due to different marketing strategies. American marketing tries to avoid using happy or cute-looking characters on it's box art unless it's selling to a specific market (very young children or girls) and will often make the character more "manly" so to speak to appeal to young boys/men. Brooding, cocky, or determined expessions tend to be the common changes. Meanwhile Japan's cute boxart tends to sell better then the more angry boxart that the West uses because the characters look like they're actually going to have fun which makes them appealing.

    I’m up for an eventual Japanese release of the Reignited Trilogy that does not contain any motion blur that would cause motion sickness. Since the changes to the camera in the Japanese version of Spyro 1 backfired, the option to have the camera follow Spyro around should be there by default, but be more steady and less rapid to prevent motion sickness.

    I honestly don't get the whole "badass characters don't sell in Japan, cute is more marketable", I mean, sure some styles are less marketable in Japan, but sometimes the whole aggressive thing doesn't sell just seems dumb, shonen manga are barely cute, Dragon Ball is super popular, anything cool with the little boys is super "in your face" and badass, like Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Dragon Ball, Naruto and the list goes on, there are some things that balance cute and cool like Pokemon, but the only cute stuff is often seen as just for girls, for example Animal Crossing seems more marketed torwards girls, especially after Isabelle was introduced, Kirby also seems more popular with female demographics (judging by how the merchandise is super girly and Waddle Dees are priviledged, I don't think a 5 year old would buy something with a giant bleeding eye on it) and boys manga magazines always try to edgify him while girls magazines are more true to his nature, honestly I highly doubt a boy over 8 years old would buy a Kirby game if it wasn't for CoroCoro making Kirby more attractive to boys, and pretty much anything on that magazine is super extreme and anti-kawaii, so, while I understand making a character more manga looking, like Crash, because they think it's more appealing for Japanese markets than a Western cartoon look, Spyro looks straight up childish crap while Crash was balanced between cute and cool, but something straight up cute with no edge doesn't usually sell well with the boys, there's a reason why Tamagotchi started becoming more targeted torwards girls around the mid to late 2000's, because the characters looked too soft for the average Japanese boy, but the Spyro on the Japanese boxart of one of the GBA games looks really good actually

    • @yoshimasterleader
      @yoshimasterleader 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This tends to happen with animal characters and characters in "kids" properties. I believe the demographic for shonen is preteens/teens. "Kids" property over in the US usually means something made for 6+ kids. "kids" property in Japan probably incorporates children under 6 as well. If I recall correctly Properties in Japan ft. talking animals are usually geared toward little kids.

In that regard people can also take a dictionary for help, after all the most important thing is the game experience, and reading is only a small part of it. It's too bad Akiko Yajima has since been retired, so Spyro would've been given a new Japanese voice, right? Wrong. Spyro still has his English voice in the JPN versions of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, making him stand out compared to all applicable Crash characters who are dubbed in Japanese.
    UPDATE: The Final Update to Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled added Japanese voices to the Spyro Characters. Gnasty Gnorc and Hunter are reprised by their old Japanese voice actors from their corresponding games, but Spyro got recasted with a new voice! Unfortunately, the credits only mention the English voice cast even in the Japanese version, so Spyro's new voice actor remains unknown.

    These changes aren't "censorship". With that said, the camera in the Spyro games is not good. It's not completely awful, but it is pretty bad, and it did make me a little motion sick at times as well. The attempt to "fix" the camera or mitigate motion sickness appeared to make the game even worse however. Considering the game didn't do well in Japan, leads me to believe that the changes made the game pretty awful.

    To be honest, changes like these are not that bad. I mean, i understand the motion sickness stuff, while i never had that with Spyro, there was a game or two that caused slight motion sickness for me, so i get that one.
    The cover is a given. Looking at Crash Bandicoot, it was the same thing.
    The censorship part...........thats the rather unnecessary part but if it was just tiny blood parts (and we know by know how Japan reacts to blood..............however the US/EU react way WAY worse when it comes to sex), then i guess its fine. Sure, not agreeing with that kind of censorship either but that kind is really almost not even worth mentioning.
    And actually kudos to Japan for not releasing the PS4 version of Spyro.

    • @mekabare
      @mekabare 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Some Dude
      I never stated that these changes should be accepted at all. In fact, i dont support these changes (however, covers themselves are fine) at all, especially not censorship in any way, shape or form. However, comparing to a shit ton of games that got censored up to today.................heck and especially today thanks to motherfucking Sony and their idiotic policiy, the changes and censorship in Spyro are rather tame to the point where its almost (again: almost) not even worth mentioning.
