    Nice channel, I’m 39 and just started again after a long break and I haven’t had this much fun in years! Also I’m much happier and less stressed.

      I am in the same spot as you bro, I'm 40 this August and started skating again last Summer after 20 years of not even paying attention to skating. It was one of the best choices I made in a long ass time. I'm happier, healthier and having the time of my life. I'm not too worried about progression, just go out to have fun and that's all that matters.

    its shifting. people dont really care about gimmicks like braille or big huge mega teams and sponsored videos or carefully edited youtube videos. they want to see the skating, the sessions, the live drama, the real nuts and bolts

      I have definitely noticed a change, me personally, I want to show the back end of skateboarding, The fails, the friendships, the laughter and everything that builds around skateboarding not just a trick landed, I want to show the reason we all love the art of skateboarding so that's what I prefer to watch as well.

    I like the smaller channels because i like seeing the process. Just good honest session with the struggles and success.
    The community is awesome.
    I will fillow your journey. I am up in NC. I skate the Florence park now and then if you ever want to meet up.

    I took to uploading to my channel for my own progress over the last 2 years.
    I started in March 2022 at the age of 39 properly skating transition once a week every week. I don't like to 'host' my vids, (i dont talk to camera, and i try to stick to under a minute shorts ) but I still do try to have a flow or target I wish to complete per vid.
    Awesome vid. I'll always find content to watch somehow, and you've got a subscriber in me.

    As a skater who made a career in advertising I can tell you what’s happened.
    In early TH-cam skateboarding was killing it, you could post videos of just actual skating, get 100k views, and viewers could auto play skate video after skate video for days.
    What killed this was braille and others joining EXACTLY when TH-cam algorithm started greatly pushing more talking in videos leading to mass success for braille and mass death of actual skateboarding on TH-cam as even if you searched for pure skating the very FIRST AUTO PLAY video was always braille or revive.
    Pure skating was simply killed by the algorithm.
    Over the years however TH-cam got tired of braille being able to spam low quality content and get as many views as other TH-camrs who make higher quality content outside of skating like dude perfect.
    TH-cam is lazy though, they simply stopped pushing all skateboard related content instead of punishing Braille and allowing actual skate videos to be auto played like the past.
    Hell in 2024 you can search baker 3, watch the video and the auto play video will be a dude perfect video 😂😂..
    TH-cam is done with pushing skating because braille and others ruined it.
    I know it feels better to pretend it’s actually skateboarders just getting tired of these dumb channels or it feels bad to think skateboarding is dying BUT we don’t have the power we think we do. TH-cam decides what gets pushed and always will.

      @XFR18 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Early Skate channels started for the money, they were consistent. That's the only difference. The main reason big channels fall hard is because naturally their subscribers leave, leaving them with inflated numbers. TH-cam has a system in place where the less clicks you get from your subs, the less they put the vid into the algorithm. The one I know is true is when you post vid and select 'send notifications to subscriber' and if the amount of clicks is less than subs (naturally for old channels) then the vid will fall off the algorithm. If you have a channel, using that notification system is not a good idea.
      Also their channels are just boring. They all started off doing street parts, park sessions, actually going outside, hanging out at a spot to eat after. Now it's just warehouse clips. I think we can see that with competition skaters as well now, the only street leagues i get really hyped over are when ppl without their own skateparks enter, like Chris joslin. Everyone skating with their own parks are all too 'robotic' I'm not saying it's not sick to see their tricks but it definitely affects the enjoyment from actual skaters imo.
      John hills channels was cool but he only skates solo. I feel like these 'failing' channels just need to move platforms. All the kids are on tiktok not TH-cam as much anymore.

    ya its sad to see the downfall of braille. kyro just gives me weird vibes, then before the carlos thing, there was the fetty thing. i dont want to say any of it is true bc i dont know. but ya just sucks because alot of those guys are sick. i hope they all find thier own path, and find success. I know ill be watching.

  • @witchdoctorteepo
    @witchdoctorteepo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I think what is happening is that people are getting less into people who are super ridiculous at skating and are looking for more down to earth beginners/ novice skaters. I see more channels with older skaters starting out getting a bit more traction than things like sls and super pros. It could be that since there are so many new skaters coming into the scene that those types don't really care to watch someone 360 hardflip a 13 stair because it's feels like a ridiculous skill gap and that may not be as entertaining as watching a vlog of someone learning the same tricks they may be struggling with.

    • @OgSkateboardSteve
      @OgSkateboardSteve  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree 100%, I have noticed when I post regular tricks on Instagram, I get just as much or more engagement as when I upload a super crazy trick, I think because it's more relatable.

    Nothing lasts forever, especially in skateboarding. I'm 44 and have been skating for 39 years and I've seen things ebb and flow over the years. It's cool they get people get people into skateboarding, but it's not sustainable. There's more to skating than flip tricks and skateparks. The Vice Magazine documentaries about skateboarding and mental health or heavy profiles of major pros like Cardiel, Ricky Oyola and Antwuan Dixon are way more interesting than watching some goober act like a 7 year old and do mediocre tricks on stupid boards.

    The main issue, the generation that kept skating alive, is now becoming old and gotta do real life shit now, the newer generation, is far more worried about their pronouns than the actual art itself... most liberals think they are the art and don't respect the actual scene for what it was... that's just my very observational opinion on the matter
