    A big thumbs up 👍 for this video. It was a pleasure to watch the “intro” and “out-fro” as Mike Morgan called them. Scott Nearing is a plane-spoken, positive gentleman. Nice to include him!
    I wish I lived closer to y’all and I’d be buying some beautiful 8 and 12 quarter ash from you. Great video yet again Nathan! Your channel is consistently the best! From Central Texas, Have a Great Day!!!

    I have been an OTW patreon for about 6 months. I live in Easton CT and although I don't have sawmill through the years I have cut a lot of pine and red & white oak. I still have white pines on my property that exceed 30" in dia. I do enjoy your videos.

    Great clip of Scott Nearing in the beginning.
    If y'all haven't read the Good Life series by Scott and Helen, you should.

      I wasn’t expecting German in the Scott Nearing audio clip 0:56 with “kostenlos,” which translates as “free of charge” in English, as he clarified. I wonder if he spoke German or if that was just a Pennsylvania Deutsch influence?

    Memories, I listened to Scot Nearing speak at the 1st or 2nd Common Ground Fair in Litchfield Maine in 1977 or 78. I was in my early 30s at the time. That was in the back to the land, off grid movement that people think they have invented now. Good times !

    Lovely boards Nathan! Like anything life, the knowledge of sawing a log and all different species of trees, is an art. It takes lots of experience and respect. I've learned quite a bit watching you Nathan and watched you grow in this art. For all of this I Thank You Kindly! Blessings to You and your Family! DaveyJO in Pa.

    Very pretty grain!---Sure hoping someone benefits from your experience. A few times, in my career, it took me YEARS to get smart and perform tasks easier, so now, I teach others how to work smarter not harder!!! Why re-invent the wheel?!

    I'm impressed with your tree knowledge Nathan, unfortunately there is no way to know about the rot in the tree until you open it up. your right! you did get some nice boards though.

    Some really nice looking wood you've got there sir. It's a real shame what these ash bores are doing to the trees. I've seen areas of Pennsylvania where a whole stand of ash trees have been wiped out. With that said I really like watching your videos and learning more about the Sawyer's trade.

  • @oxfletch
    @oxfletch 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why is the second cut flipped 180 from the first rather than 90? I have a manual mill, seems like less rotation to just rotate it 90 at a time? I'm sure there's a reason, I just don't understand it

      The two sides will then be sqaure to each other as they are cut off the bed. When you cut against the back stops it is easy to be a little off 90 deg. from the bed.
