    Isnt she taking the stroke too far back?

      Technique on the erg is different on an actual dragon boat. To maximize trials on the erg, people generally pull further back. But yes, I would agree that she is pulling a little too far back. I don't pull past my hips.

    why don't any of the competitive dragon boaters do this during race?

      You can't extend that much during a race because it is too slow. Must "easy" stroke rates are about 60 to 65 strokes per minute with some of the extension from folding over and the rest from the rotation. Also, her over extension is wasted because her paddle is fully in the water well after her fully extension. Most people use a side entry to enter the catch and do not extend this far because it is wasted effort.

      @@Lehmann108 from doing this it's more critical I found to feather the blade quick at the back. I agree in a race people do not extend this far forward to enter the blade on vertical.
