Wow, cheers for the shout out at the beginning of this fantastic video, Thank You, very interesting to see the difference in your official box set and my unofficial one, lol, thanks again, cheers, Dave
The key is having them all!.. I have the mono vinyl + cd boxset Stereo cd boxset The Giles Martin remixs The 24 bit apple HD stereo albums on USB stick But one thing that has never been released is a proper stereo vinyl set from the masters If you listen to the red and blue albums on vinyl they are from the master tapes and sound unbelievable in stereo... Thanks for the video Tone..very inciteful as always...I think many beatle myths regarding their music permeates!!!
I think the best way to hear the Beatles right in the blue albums is the one from 2014 I think it’s a fantastic thing because they use the original Master tapes done by Harry Mars and I think it’s great that was my first Time buying the red and the blue albums on vinyl actually the first time my dad was the US version of it and I got the 2014 remastered it’s a fantastic double album and I think it’s essential for anyone who wants to get into the Beatles music one of the essential things besides the Beatles past masters double album lions one and two. I love the 2014 remaster of the Beatles red and blue they sound very much fantastic I’m glad that they use the original masterpiece.
@@jesserussell7242 yeah the 2014 red and blue...plus the yellow submarine songbook remix 1999 also sounds fantastic in stereo....when done right...fir me stereo is the clear winner 🏆
Yes having them all is the downfall of us all lol. I would love an analogue Stereo, I guess as time goes on, the chances of this happening appear to be less likely. Maybe if the Analogue mono LPs had come out first, the Stereos would have followed suit. An opportunity missed I think Marcus. Thanks as always for your comment
@@MarcusMaximus909 Im with you 100% Marcus, this is why Giles' remixes are so important. I much prefer to hear my music in stereo. As great as mono was back in the day, modern day, sophisticated hifi, translates stereo far better than mono
Well, if you look for an AAA stereo set I highly recommend the UK 1978 BC13 blue box. Also later issues sound really great. I have the 1985 UK version and a 1978 German Pressing. Comparing both, I would go for the UK versions. The sound quality is quite equal for all albums and really good where in the German version you have some of the best sounding pressings ever, but also some really dull and flat ones (especially the early albums, except PPM)
Thanks very much Sam, the second 1k has happened in about half the time of the first 1k so that's very encouraging. The attention to detail on these miniature versions of the albums is incredible and very faithful to the original. Having both boxes, Im kind of glad that they did something different with the stereos and I really like the extended digipacks and booklets that come with the stereos .Thanks very much for your comment
Hi Tone congratulations on 2k subscribers, you have a fantastic channel and i always look forward to looking at your videos, always great content. Love the Mono cd box and the mono vinyl box set also love the stereo cd box set too. Once again congratulations mate very well deserved indeed.
Thanks very much James for your kind words. That was a really nice message to get and I appreciate your feedback - thank you and Im glad you are enjoying the channel. Yes Im also happy with both configurations. Stereo was my first choice but glad I got the monos before the prices went crazy.
Congrats on the 2k subs Tone - more than well deserved. I watch and listen to a few Mops-related YT/Podcasts and can say with confidence that yours is realistically worthy of a 10k following minimum. Why? You say it how it is, you have a comprehensive collection for 'show and tell' segments and, most importantly, you wear your obviously deep knowledge lightly, sharing it in a way that strikes a happy balance between no requirement of your viewers to have a lot of 'entry information' before watching, whilst not patronising us. Here's to your 10k!
Thanks you so much Rob. That was a such lovely message to receive - I really appreciate it, and very glad to have you as part of my channel. The subs are a funny thing - the first 1k took just shy of a year to get, the second 1000, less than half that time. I think it will take a long time to get anywhere near 10k but Im very happy with 2k as the channel is only just 18 months old and of course, there are a lot of channels doing Beatles content to complete with. One great thing about having a smaller subscriber count, is that Im able to respond to everyone's comments which I enjoy doing as it helps me get to know the audience and makes everyone feel like they are part of the channel and contributing towards it. The guys that have 10k plus have been doing this a long time and get so many comments that they'd never have time to do that. Ive got lots of ideas for the channel so hopefully it will continue to grow. thanks once again for this fantastic message Rob.
Hi, Tone. Great overview, and it reminds me that I haven't listened to my set in probably a year, so I'm overdue to break it out. I tend to prefer the mono mixes for the early albums but they all make interesting listens. Congratulations on 2000 subs, it's well deserved my friend.
Thanks very much Matthew , glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the subs congrats. Yes definitely worth giving the set another spin. I generally listen to the stereos, but occasionally I like to listen to the monos and this is great set. Thanks as always for your comment Matt.
Hey Tone, thanks for keeping it real with the discussion of Mono vs Stereo. I've been going down forum rabbit holes on mono for several days only to come back up and decide I'm happy to not own them and prefer the stereo versions. Although I definitely love hearing the differences in mixes and takes on the same songs, between the two formats. Just more of that Easter Egg Beatles goodness that makes my ears glow!
Thanks very much Mal, glad you enjoyed the video. I want to do a mono v stereo video at some point but I was brought up with the stereos and I think when the remix program is completed for the stereos , then the mons become a little redundant I think . Im not sure we should still be listening to mono recordings in 2024
👏👏!!! Wow well done you that is just great I am so happy for you on hitting the BIG 2.000 :"-)!! I do think this was one of the best Beatles Box set . I do watch his channel as well:")!!! I do love this a lot and I do play it often great video and I do look forward to part two Tonny all the best mate cheers!!!
Thanks very much Brad, the 2nd thousand has happened in around half the time of the first 1000 so very happy about that. Yeah this is a great set and thanks as always for dropping by and really glad you enjoyed the video and thanks as always for your support mate.
Nice video Beatly Tone! bought mine for £45 when I was living in London. The previous owner had done away with the plastic and all the CDs are in the replica inner sleeves, I find it such a nice experience handling the mini replica sleeves so I’m pleased about that. I also have a mini replica of the American Rubber Soul I keep in the box just incase I’m in the mood for that lol.
That's a great price that you picked that up for Paul. I dont think it matters about the plastic sleeves to be honest. I just find them annoying. Agree that the mini sleeves are superb and like you say - satisfying. Thanks very much for this comment and im glad you enjoyed the video
That was fun. I need to re-listen to the monos! Haven’t played them much since ‘09. Really hoping we get remixed stereos of the early albums! Hey, seeing as you like the rubber soul cover the best, I’d love to see your ranking of the Beatles albums based solely on artwork! Possible?!
Hi nick, glad you enjoyed the video. In my opinion, the main value of the monos is that they include (in the most part) the correct versions of the songs wheres the the stereos have lots of mistakes. However, as we've seen up to this point, Giles is using the the mono versions as the template for his stereo remixes and thus correcting the errors so we get a great stereo mix without the errors. As he goes through the albums creating new stereo mixes for each album, the value of the monos is diminishing. A ranking of Beatles artwork? of course, anything is possible on this channel lol. Will put it on the list.
The four Yellow Submarine Songs are true mono mixes, as they were being readied for an Mono Only EP in March 1969 which got cancelled, and then remained unreleased until 2009. It was also the first time that the USA had an offical mono release of The White Album, as it was only released in Stereo in the USA as far as I know, as they had phased out mono LPs in 1968 and within a year or two the same thing was happening in the UK. Now there is one box set of this I would imagine would be very valuable, is the copy that the late Lemmy Kilmister has, because in the Documentary of his life, you see him a record store in Los Angeles, looking for a copy of the mono box set, as they all had was the stereo box set. It must have been September 2009 it was filmed, and was initially told no, but the store owner gave Lemmy her copy of it. Initially it was to going to be a one off pressing of 10000 copies, but they must have sold out within hours and Apple Corps then realised they could not keep this as a limited edition so made it as available as the stereo box set.
Hi Tone, congratulations for 2000 subscribers. Very deserved. In 2009, when the Beatles remasters had been issued, I also went for the stereo box only. I purchased the mono box a few years later on ebay for a reasonable price. But it turned out that it was a fake. I complained at the seller. he refunded me the money and he also said I am allowed to keep the box. The sound quality of my box is top, the discs are not MP3 sourced as for many other fakes. But packaging is for some discs better, for some worse and for magical mystery and the white album absolutely poor done - false and poorly glued. But for the price of 0 Euro I can not complain 😉. I am really looking forward to part II to have a deep look into the vinyl box and especially the book. I still hope for a re-release like they did for the Stones mono box. I even do not need a AAA edition. The 2012 stereo LPs sounds great on my hifi in my ears. But I am not willing to pay 1000 Euro or even more for music I already have on various CDs and LPs, even most in stereo.
Thanks for the congratulations Armin, I appreciate that and really glad to have you as part of my channel. Well for free you could say you got a bargain - if the sound quality is good then that's the main thing eh. I will be posting the LP mono box video next week so I hope you'll get a kick out of seeing it. The prices as you quite rightly say are just ridiculous and I hope for people like you who missed out on these that there is a reissue. I do think that as Giles gets to through the rest of the catalogue , these new stereo mixes will replace the monos as the go to version. We'll see but he's done such a good job so far, this is how I see it going . Thanks as always for a fantastic comment
I am the proud owner of the mono boxed set which I bought recently and cost me about £300 including customs and The American Albums set which cost about the same. Both bought from IMusic in Denmark. I am delighted with both sets. The U.S.A. set has on the same disc the mono and stereo versions. I was delighted to get a mono version of the White Album as some of the tracks differ in contact. I just really wanted a new set of Beatle recordings as some of my CDs are quite worn. CDs are indestructible. That's a good one. Very informative feature. So glad the Yellow Submarine songs are included.
Thanks for a great comment Duncan and glad you managed to get a Mono box at a decent price. Funny you should mention the American set as I have also been looking at getting that. Ive only just asked one of American viewers what he thought of it. Ive seen it for £123 brand new and sealed - is that a good price? Sounds like you're happy with yours
Great video. You did a lot of detail in your descriptions. Thanks for that. I originally had a fake CD box set and was quite unhappy with it. Upon opening the set, you can see that the complete set doesn't even fill the box like the real one does. The booklet is flimsy and had blurry spots in the text and lack of ink in the pictures. The covers / jackets were folded crooked and rather flat. Rubber Soul lacked printing on the disc, only the Parlophone logo was there. I didn't bother to play any of the discs at that point, I just bought a real copy. Couldn't be happier with every aspect of the legit box set. Anyone looking to buy one, do yourself a favor and buy a real copy. Just thought I'd share my bad experience.
Thanks Scott, glad you enjoyed the video. yes loads of people have had a similar experience to you so thanks for sharing yours with other viewers here. Glad you've got a real one now and are enjoying it. Thanks for a great comment.
Great review, thanks. I've seen the fakes being sold for well over $100 on eBay, and being passed off as legit, or at the very least not stating they are fake.
Thanks very much Dave, glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah I guess there are people out there taking liberties with fans. Once you're looking on that secondary market it's a bit like a lottery except hopefully you'll win and get something great at a reasonable rather than lose and get ripped off. Thanks for your comment
My Mono box was bought brand new from HMV and did not have the individual bags over each CD. I like the Japanese way of putting the disc in a protective cover, as the discs can easily get scratched, and I’ve actually had some CDs where there is evidence of glue not drying properly inside the card slipcase before the CD was inserted at the factory. This leaves scratches on the discs as they have stuck to the card, and you have to tug them to get them out.
Hello Tone, enjoyed your video on the mono set. I do own this one but in 2009 I bought the stereo one since that's what I grew up with. Could not figure why anyone would want the mono set. Ended up buying the CD and vinyl version in 2014 luckily before the huge price increase. Never knew too much about the fake set so that was interesting to hear. Take care Tone!
Thanks Sharon, glad you enjoyed the video. I kind of did the same - back in 2009 I wasnt really interested in the monos but picked them up later . I did get the LP set when it came out in 2014 though and glad I bought it then. I tend to play the stereo Lps more though to be fair. Thanks as always for your comment and support
Resealable covers protect the flipbacks . The cd inner sleeve protects against scratches when you remove and replace cd in it's cover , and yes , scratches can make cd's jump , and stick .
I just ordered plastic inner sleeves and resealable outer sleeves for my stereo cd box set. Don't know why they packaged the mono set so well but didn't do the same for the stereo set. I just hope the stereo cd's will still fit in the box with the additional sleeves.
I have a real and a fake In Mono set. The real is a cherished highlight of my CD collection. The fake sits in a room I never enter in a corner of it I forget about. I didn’t do much research before I purchased one of these, and honestly, wasn’t very knowledgeable of this set aside from it was the mono mixes. I was scrolling through eBay one day looking for anything interesting in Beatles. Saw a posting for the In Mono set for about $40. Figured the value dropped and I was getting a great deal on a set I never had. Got it and something just felt off to me. The quality was shoddy, and no where near what my stereo set was like. So I started some research. Naive me would have never guessed someone would take the time to make fake CD’s. I took to TH-cam and found loads of videos telling me otherwise. This is also what got me started watching TH-cam. So I guess something good came from it. I did end up getting a real copy. At a much higher price, but still decent, thanks to tips I learned on TH-cam. I also got my money returned by PayPal as the seller refused to respond to me. One day I might make a video on it. But I want that dreaded fake to keep rotting in the cold, dark place it’s in.
Ha nice story Dustin. As you know, this whole collecting thing is a learning process and YT is a great resource for finding out stuff that we never imagined. As they say, you win some, you lose some but it's to your credit that you didnt try and sell the fake box on to some other unsuspecting fan and are just letting it rot. At least you have the real McCoy now and got your money back from PayPal. I think it would be a good idea to do a video showing your fake box and pointing out its failings - I know there are other videos out there doing this but maybe your subs haven't seen them and you might save someone the pain you had to go through. Thanks for this really great comment my friend
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel I keep thinking I should dig it out and do a story on it. But really, I like it sitting where it sits. Sadly I got burned in the US Albums box too, and it’s fake one sits in the same place. But there’s two good videos.
@@BeatleDustino Like a kind of fake corner ? Funnily enough Ive been looking at getting the US albums box. Seen one for a good price , hopefully its a real one
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel my trick on both the In Mono and US Albums, after I got burned on each, was to look for used copies only. And used copies where the seller post loads of photos. I even asked on one of them to send more photos. Heads up though. The mixes on the US Albums set are just the 2009 masters. If you’re looking for the original Capital mixes unique to their albums, you’ll want the Capital Albums Vol. 1 & 2 sets. Also watch out with Vol. 2 as earlier copies have incorrect mixes on Beatles VI and Rubber Soul.
I think on the mono Helter Skelter, the removal of the last minute may have been planned, to give the stereo version something extra for those who bought the stereo album mix. And, I don’t know if this was actually planned, but the mono “She’s Leaving Home” is faster than the stereo version.
Yes that's right George She's Home is slightly faster which wasnt planned , it's a recording error. The faster speed also shifts the key up a semitone. There are many differences between the mono and stereo versions of various songs and one day I may make a video talking about them all. Im not sure what the reason for Helter Skelter ending before the fade back in , Im sure it was as you suggest deliberate because you cant miss a whole minute off a song by accident
My understanding is that the strings were recorded at normal tape speed (Key of E), but it was sped up for Paul to record his vocals with the tape running fast (key of F). Mono was pressed with the natural Paul voice but sped up strings (F), Stereo was pressed with the natural strings but slowed down voice (E). Artistically “correct” one is arguably Mono, but both have an unnatural and natural element to them.
I bought both the stereo and the mono box sets simultaneously at my favorite music store which is Music Millennium here in Portland Oregon, I couldn’t wait to get both of them the interesting thing is on the vinyl stereo version One of the things that I didn’t quite like was on the site and pepper vinyl on the stereo box set on vinyl from 2012 instead of using the UK mix to use the remix from 2017 I was thinking wait a minute somethings not right here that’s my only complaint of the Beatles in stereo box that Apple should release a complete stereo box set on vinyl just like they did with the mono box set on vinyl. I think they should use original master cutting tapes especially the ones from Harry mosque. when I took the box at home with me I couldn’t wait to listen to them I had never heard of the first four Beatles albums in 1964 in stereo before because I used to have the 1987 albums those jeweled cases which are pretty good and they were OK but they were a bit murky sounding as far as CDs go Not fast forward to 2010When I listened to the four early Beatles albums from 1964 and stereo for the first time I loved it and the mono mix was great too and one of the things I really love about the mono box that is not the people in Japan I think you reproduced all of the records sleeves and album covers did a really fantastic job recreating that was the original album sleeves and the sound quality on both the stereo and mono box that is great I even love the remixes I am a huge remix fan I’m a huge dials Martin remix which I think is great.
Yes I remember the day they came out, it was very exciting and the wait for them to arrive was almost unbearable . They were a huge upgrade on the 1987 CDs I agree
Love my mono box. Don’t have the stereo box so I would like to know if you have any info about bootlegs out in the stereo set and that we should look for? Also unrelated, did you ever review and compare the Revolver mono vinyl in the 2022 deluxe box versus the 2014 mono or did you think that was unnecessary? Thanks much. You always do a great job.
Hi Patricia, I dont have a bootleg of the stereo box, just the real one so I cant really say or recommend one or a seller. You could try Beatle Dave (link to his channel in the description) he may be able to help you with this, although Ive not seen him do a video on the stereo set so dont know whether he has one or not. Sorry I cant be more help on this but I wouldn't like to point you in the direction of anything I haven't seen or owned just in case its a poor recommendation - I would hate you to waste money on something I have recommended. The mono Revolver was the one thing that I didnt review in the Revolver box set. I did listen to the mono Lp that came in the set and couldn't hear any discernible differences between that and my 2014 version although I understand there are one or two small tweaks. Thanks very much for your comment and really glad that you are still enjoying the content here.
Hi Tone , I got the Beatles in mono box set on CD , but regret missing out on the vinyl version , that’s one big regret I have . Tone do you think Apple will ever do a re- press of the Beatles mono albums in box set format on vinyl & on cd & possibly releasing them separately on vinyl & cd , from please please me - magical mystery tour . Do you think there is a case for a re-press of it , I would be interested to here your views .
Hi John, Im going to be covering this point in full in my video of the Mono Vinyl box set video, which will be dropping later this week. But briefly, I 100% believe there is a huge demand for this and it would be a massive seller so from that point of view there is every reason not to give up hope that there will be a reprint of the box. However, I have no inside info that this will happen, but if Apple want a surefire way of making money then this is a nailed on winner. I have heard from other sources that they actually lost money on the first print and that is what is holding them back re-issuing but Im not sure how they managed to lose money on something that completely sold out unless they priced it too cheaply - Im not sure if the story of them losing money is true or not. What I feel certain about, is that they will include a mono vinyl in all future box sets of the stereo remix releases like they did with Revolver. However I would like to see them issue the mono as a stand alone album when they bring out these box sets so that people can get the mono album without having to buy the box set (I doubt they will do this though - why would they?). However if they do include a mono with the future box sets this will still leave a gap as no mono LP included with the White Album or pepper boxes (although there was a mono CD in the pepper box and a mono white album on the blu-ray but that's not vinyl is it). I said I would answer briefly but I seem to have rambled on a bit but wanted to give fuller answer. more to come on this on the LP box video John. Thanks for a great question
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel many thanks Tone for a brilliant response to my question , I wasn’t expecting a detailed response , but I’m glad it was , you take the time & effort In replying & give a very honest opinion , I won’t give up hope , they did do a repress of the Queen box set I think they are now into there 3rd re-pressing , due to overwhelming demand , so they might do the same with the Beatles in mono , I can’t believe they made a loss on the mono box set , that can’t be true it must me false . Look forward to the Beatles in mono box set in vinyl video shortly cheers Tone for the fantastic reply very much appreciated it
@@BeatleJohn813 No problem John, happy to help if I can. I was also very surprised to hear the box made a loss, doesn't seem possible to me. I cant remember who said that but I think it was Andrew at Parlogram, whose opinion I often disagree with, but his facts are usually reliable. I'll see if I can research that more
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Hi Tone ,Andrew from polygram Auctions , said to me when i asked him the same question about the Beatles mono box set been re-pressed , he replied sadly I doubt this will ever be available again , which I disagree with , they have the stampers from before , so what’s stopping them , the thought of making another loss . Anyway I will now shut up on this subject , and wait for your Beatles mono vinyl box set video cheers Tone
Hi Tone , I contacted Andrew from polygram Auctions and asked him about the Beatles Mono Album box set making a lose , he said that Apple under priced it & profits were slim , so that’s Apple’s Mistake in my eyes , and the general public are paying the price for apple’s miss judgment on the price , which is probably stopping Apple re- pressing the entire Beatles in Mono box set .
Thanks for another great review, Tone. I enjoyed it as always. However, you stated in this profile that the original 'Past Masters' releases from 1988 were only issued on CD format, but I'm afraid that's incorrect. While it's true that on CD, the package was put out in two seperate volumes, they were also issued as a double LP and double Cassette at the same time. I know this for certain because I have the original 1988 editions of 'Past Masters' in my collection and on all three formats. Apart from that, your review was as enjoyable and informative as ever and I hope that my comments have been helpful. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks very much Stephen Im glad you enjoyed the video and the channel in general. Thanks also for the update on the LP and cassette versions of Past Masters, I didnt know they had been issued so always happy to top-up my knowledge. I was foolish enough to abandon buying records once I got my first CD player (1986) and was fully invested in CD by 1988 so the LP versions would have passed me by. Having said that, I find it odd that they didnt include a replica inner sleeve in the Mono CD box set as they did for all the CDs. An oversight I guess. Thanks once again my friend
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Yes, I agree. That IS a bit odd, come to think of it. Presumably, it was just an oversight on their part, as you rightly said. Incidentally, I discovered on another Beatles fan site recently, that there are also fake versions of the Stereo box sets floating around out there, too. As with the Mono set, there are subtle but clear differences between the real ones and the fakes. So it looks like both of them have been bootlegged, not just the Mono version. I just thought I'd let you know about that in case you might want to do a similar feature on the Stereo set at some point. Thanks once again.
I just got my Beatles Mono box set today from eBay and I should have been suspicious that it was a bootleg because it was a scant $64. It seems to sound good but I have no idea if it sounds exactly the same as the authentic box. I’m enjoying it so far but I’m likely going to eventually spend the money necessary to get a proper one.
I guess it it sounds good to your ears that is the main thing Stephanie. Have you seen some of the things that Ive pointed out about the fakes in the video? But if it sounds good , it's only the packaging that is not great. But ultimately if youre not happy with it, you should be able to get your money back from the seller or ebay themselves if the seller won't refund. Good luck, with whatever you decide to do
I was dissapointed that the mono did not have abbey road and let it be. What I did do is bought them separately as stereo versions and they fit nicely in the white box. I did not purchase yellow submarine. I enjoyed the sound and the packaging. Maybe someday I will buy the stereo version box set.
Well they were never issued in mono as mono was pretty much a dead format by the time those albums arrived. But I like you're style, putting the stereos in the box - nice idea
My brother is the big beatlehead. Yet I still enjoy these. I got him the super deluxe mad size Flaming Pie for his 40th. Gawd knows where he keeps it in his London flat 😄
Did you know on revolver there are a couple of songs in mono where there is a longer fade out like on the song love you too that’s a tar solo goes on for a minute before the song feeds out and also on got to get you into my life the vocals are different in the mono mix and what appears in the stereo and I like the fact that it’s a minute longer before the song fades out One of the interesting songs on the mono box that is the original key of she’s leaving home which is in a higher pitch but it was slow down in the stereo mix and I like the Lucy in the sky with diamonds mono because it has not wonderful warble affect on his vocals it’s little things like that I absolutely love I even love when John Lennon makes a mistake on please please me when he sings the wrong words and the stereo mix and in the mono mix it’s corrected because I think it’s the final taken to that song. I love details like that.
Well done on reaching 2k I bought both mono and stereo boxes in 2009 on cd and vinyl. I enjoyed both but I was directed to some original mono vinyl pressings which I felt sounded really lively . I would try and hear them . Especially Sgt Pepper and the White album. They are expensive and hard to find in great condition
Thanks very much Edward. Wow that was a lot to shell out for back in 2009. Yes the original monos are almost impossible to find in good shape. I have inherited a few (including Pepper) from my aunt who was a teenager in the 60s but they are not in great shape at all
i remade the compleat beatles documentary, i replaced all the pics and videos in it, this project too me a year to finish, i call it the compleat beatles remake.i gave this old documentary some much needed updating in quality and footage.
I still would like to buy the Beatles in mono boxing on the vinyl but I think it might be expensive. I’m just going to keep looking and waiting for the price to come down. my copies of the Beatles stereo and mono box ads are definitely the real thing which is good I don’t like getting fake things especially fake box sets. no matter how the music is remix the Beatles music will always be fantastic.
I was like you, I bought the stereo box on the day of. I just got my local record store's last copy. If a customer ahead of me had bought a stereo box and Beatles Rock Band, I would have missed it. But, one just bought a Rock Band game. I finally got the mono box set from Amazon, on a Boxing Day sale in 2014. And while I like some of the songs better in mono, I think I made the right choice buying the stereo box first. I never even considered the mono box set, it was much more expensive, and my record store only had one copy, and it was already reserved for another customer. They only had three stereo boxes the day of. I got the last one. I remember it was hard to obtain any of the CD box sets in Canada, the first two weeks or so. I was lucky to get one.
Hi James, Great that you managed to get the last one. I agree that some songs sound better in stereo and some in mono. I'm very glad to have got the mono boxes before the prices went crazy, but Im far more interested in getting good stereo mixes of these albums. I think as Giles goes through the rest of the catalogue , the shouts of ' this is better in mono' will be a thing of the past. Thanks as always for a great comment
One of the things I regret not getting is the Beatles in mono boxer on vinyl I can’t believe how expensive that is I was looking on Amazon sometimes it would be available but the price is really outrageous I think but I do have the Beatles in mono on the CD. there should be some ways not Apple records could re-issue the Beatles in mono box out on vinyl with the original analog tapes so that way they could get some money rather than losing it.
Yes the LP Mono box set is a huge amount of money to buy these days because it's been out of print for many years now. I will be cover the LP set in epidote 2 of this series
Thanks very much ken. Yeah both were . Actually was just talking about you with Beatle Brad on the LP mono box video thread. He said he was buying all the mono LPs separately and looking for an empty box and I remembered you doing the same with the Stereo remasters
Great video yet again. I don't know if you will be interested but just in case they sell out quickly... Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Half-Speed Master Vinyl of Red Rose Speedway Record Store Day, April 22nd 2023 Take care of your health. Jeremy
Thanks very much Jeremy, glad you liked the video. Yes Ive seen the announcement for the RRS Half Speed master. I have been collecting these and have the first 3 but from what I can see, this appears to be a US RSD release and no news of a UK release, so Im a bit miffed to say the least as Im not sure how Im going to get this at the moment
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel There's always a glitch isn't there. congratulations too from me on the 2k subs. Great achievement that you have worked hard to obtain. It helps that your videos are actually very interesting to watch.
Some of the stereo mixes were done weeks or after the mono mixes. More punch is in your face more than the stereo like Drive my Car, Paperback Writer and Revolution for starters. Rubber Soul is better in mono. I grew up on stereo in the 70’s but prefer mono. Stereo is great on Beatles for Sale and The White album.
Yes sometimes months later. There are no right or wrong answers, everybody hears things differently and also there is heavy weight placed on what equipment you are listening on.
Okay, so I was about to buy the mono set because everybody said the earlier albums sound better in mono. But you have made me think twice!! I do own the stereo version and honestly I'm NOT totally disgusted with separation of vocals and instruments in the stereo and I think it's an excellent set. But then again John Lennon's comment about if you have not heard Sgt Pepper in mono you haven't heard it and all the talk about the Beatles not giving a crap about stereo. So what should I do? Lol
personally I prefer pepper in stereo despite what John said. I think if you haven't heard the mono albums you should and see what you think. the monos dont have some if the mistakes that the stereos have which is good but on the other hand the monos went made to be listened to on stereo gear which everyone has these days . to be honest I like the albums in stereo from revolver to the end better but for the early. albums the monos are better
Thanks Tone - are you surprised they removed Lewisohn's name from the 2009 Past Masters release? I wonder if Anthology/Flaming Pie will suffer same removal fate? btw my fav album sleeve is a tie between Abbey Road & Hey Jude compilation album. classic photos on that Hey Jude album. good luck this Sunday vs Spurs. slow starters again vs the gold/creme color (?) Chelsea (I detest some of these alternate kits), will you let Kane & Co score first? NF play City so they get thumped by them for a second time I'm afraid. I think after today's result City has the bit in their teeth and will run the table the rest of the year.
Hi Russ I guess they just used completely different sleeve notes for the remasters so ML's original note became redundant are are you suggesting that there is shite between ML and Apple that I need to know about. Love both of those sleeves and funnily enough in my very early days of discovering The Beatles I bought both those albums together. I didnt even realise at that point that hey Jude was a comp or indeed an imported album but I have always loved its weirdness in track selection (even though the reason for it , leave it incomplete). Now talking of which, I only own 2 US albums, the aforementioned Hey Jude and The Beatles Story. Ive seen a deal on ebay for The Beatles US albums box set (think it's a 50th anniversary thing). 13 US albums new and sealed £123. Do you have this and if so what do you think of it, is it worth punt at that price? Football - yeah got away with one last weekend but again another point I wasnt expecting us to get. Always look forward to Spurs away, the best place in the league to win for me. They have Champions League to worry about next week so may play a weakened team, we on the other hand have only about 8 fit players so who knows? Im very happy to see Man City take over at the top, I like City, but I mainly pleased because it means Piers Morgan will shut the fu*k up for a while !! Arsenal fans are so gobby when they are doing well, you never hear a squeak out of them when they're not. I dont fancy Forest's chances against City though, might give us a chance to catch up with you. I fancy another point for the hammers at spurs,
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Hi Tone. Not a bad price at all. If sealed never opened? sure! redundancy of songs for you, sure, but you will get our mixes and what we in USA grew up with. Startling the difference for me when I started collecting imports in the late 70's early 80's. The Blue Beatles LP box set around 1981/82 blew me away with the total differences in our country's presentation of our favorite band. The Blue Singles and Blue EP boxes notwithstanding, that blue box of English LP's became my must listens until the CD's in 1987. They sounded "crisper" and "cleaner" on my equipment of the time than my American LP's if that makes sense? I am laughing out loud. you are funny!
@@RussBeatle63 So are you saying that the mixes aren't great on the US LPs . I kind of thought I should have a set of the US albums although these are CDs of course. Id rather have the LPs but there doesn't seem to be a LP box. lol laughing at what ? Piers Morgan?
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel I think it's a good buy and get it yes! I apologize if my answer was convoluted and not as direct as that. LP's or CD's the mixes will be markedly different than you are used to up till Revolver. LOL @ the Gunner supporters and Morgan comment. so true.
@@RussBeatle63 Cheers Russ. Im confused now, I also mentioned this to Beatle Dustino (somewhere in the comments here) he's saying that box set has the 2009 remaster mixes and the one I need for the US mixes is Capitol albums Vol 1 & 2 . Its a bloody minefield !!
Well when I made this video, you could pick one up on Amazon. I have just checked and they out of stock there now so ebay is your best bet. I have seen a couple on there for around £230 sealed and from the UK. Stay away from anything that comes from the far east as this is where most fakes original especially if they seem especially cheap. A real on will cost in excess of £200 sometimes a lot more. Good luck John
is baby you're a rich man in this mono box set? is it the real mono version? because the mono version is longer than the stereo version and sounds very different, it has this jangling piano you dont hear in the stereo version
It's included on the mono Magical Mystery tour. Personally I prefer the stereo version of this song particularly Peter CObbin's remix on Yellow Sub Soundtrack which sounds amazing
I have both the real and fake box sets and even though the packaging is clearly worse on the fake, the sound quality is the same as it is on the real one. When comparing fake and real tracks in Audacity, the waveforms are identical, and why wouldn't they be identical when they are both digital?
You would have thought not but I guess there could be a difference in resolution depending on how the producers are manufacturing the fakes but you would think that its a straight copy 1-1 but I guess its possible some bootleggers are using lower quality files than WAV. Some people have said the sound is not great on their fakes but you know, sound is subjective, we all hear things differently, but good to know you got a great sounding fake (presumably before you went for the real thing)
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Yeah, I got duped at an Amazon warehouse deal. I guess somebody conned Amazon and sent back a fake box set and pocketed the money. Meanwhile, I stupidly paid almost retail for a fake. Of course, I could have returned it, but I decided to keep it so that I could compare it to the real thing.
@@Verdoux007 Oh no! that's a lot of money for a fake. yes that sounds like a likely scenario of how you ended up with a fake. Well at least you have the real thing now
I have a bootleg. I wondered why it was suspiciously cheap on eBay, the printing is appalling. But I'm still happy to have it. I'd definitely buy an official one if they were available. Mono is the only way to hear the Beatles
@@imemine6494 I think it was about £60, but it was 2015 when I got it, so I don't remember. I actually complained to the seller and got a partial refund and was able to keep it, I think the seller didn't what me kicking up a fuss.
Another advantage of mono set is the printing process - the art is amazingly crisp. Compare the White Album poster or the line art in the mono Revolver with their stereo counterparts: small details in the stereo digisleeves are obscured by halftoning, as if they were sourced from low-resolution files. Edit: re: ricepaper sleeves. They protect the CDs from small bits of adhesive that sometimes make their way to the playing side of the CDs, a common problem with cardboard sleeves. Authentic ricepaper sleeves, like the ones that came with the authentic box set, have a durable feel; the fake ones are very flimsy.
I have the fake mono set right in front of me. Made the huge mistake by ordering it from China in 2018. I wish I had the real deal but cannot afford. If there's anything you'd like to know about this fake boxset just ask. It's frigging dreadful.
Sorry to read you got stung for one of the fakes, hopefully you didnt pay too much for it. Yes please tell me of there's anything significant that identifies it as a fake that I didnt mention in the video that wield be great. How does it sound?
Wow, cheers for the shout out at the beginning of this fantastic video, Thank You, very interesting to see the difference in your official box set and my unofficial one, lol, thanks again, cheers, Dave
No problem Dave, I hope you get a little uplift in subs because of it. Glad you liked the video mate, thanks very much. Have a great weekend
The key is having them all!..
I have the mono vinyl + cd boxset
Stereo cd boxset
The Giles Martin remixs
The 24 bit apple HD stereo albums on USB stick
But one thing that has never been released is a proper stereo vinyl set from the masters
If you listen to the red and blue albums on vinyl they are from the master tapes and sound unbelievable in stereo...
Congratulations on the 2000 subs Tone. The attention to detail on the mono CD box is amazing, the stereo CD box should have been done the same.Cheers.
Thanks very much Sam, the second 1k has happened in about half the time of the first 1k so that's very encouraging. The attention to detail on these miniature versions of the albums is incredible and very faithful to the original.
Great video! I got the CD Mono set in 2010 and the Vinyl Mono set in 2014. Mono sounds so good!
Yes 2 fantastic sets . Glad you enjoyed the video
Hi, Tone. Great overview, and it reminds me that I haven't listened to my set in probably a year, so I'm overdue to break it out. I tend to prefer the mono mixes for the early albums but they all make interesting listens. Congratulations on 2000 subs, it's well deserved my friend.

Thanks for the updated info David
More people are watching your channel I believe this is so because I'm getting many more comments besides yours on my posted comments. That is great
Hi Tone, congratulations for 2000 subscribers.

Maravilhoso amo the beatles❤
My Mono box was bought brand new from HMV and did not have the individual bags over each CD. I like the Japanese way of putting the disc in a protective cover, as the discs can easily get scratched, and I’ve actually had some CDs where there is evidence of glue not drying properly inside the card slipcase before the CD was inserted at the factory. This leaves scratches on the discs as they have stuck to the card, and you have to tug them to get them out.
That's odd that there were no individual bags in your set from HMV Andrew.
I think that there was a second run. I think that Andrew from Parlogram Records mentioned it on his channel.

Should do. I think theres a bit of wriggle room

If you’re looking for the original Capital mixes unique to their albums, you’ll want the Capital Albums Vol. 1 & 2 sets.
@@walrusgumboot I think you're understanding is correct
I think they should use original master cutting tapes especially the ones from Harry mosque. when I took the box at home with me I couldn’t wait to listen to them I had never heard of the first four Beatles albums in 1964 in stereo before because I used to have the 1987 albums those jeweled cases which are pretty good and they were OK but they were a bit murky sounding as far as CDs go
Not fast forward to 2010When I listened to the four early Beatles albums from 1964 and stereo for the first time I loved it and the mono mix was great too and one of the things I really love about the mono box that is not the people in Japan I think you reproduced all of the records sleeves and album covers did a really fantastic job recreating that was the original album sleeves and the sound quality on both the stereo and mono box that is great I even love the remixes I am a huge remix fan I’m a huge dials Martin remix which I think is great.
Yes I remember the day they came out, it was very exciting and the wait for them to arrive was almost unbearable . They were a huge upgrade on the 1987 CDs I agree
I want this but prices!!!
Yes Trevor, unfortunately it's not cheap
You never know. You just might get the money to buy it at some point. Better late than never, Trevor.
@@stephenalanmoore7278 Thanks Stephen. Yes Ive seen that there are Stereo box set fakes too. I may well do a video on the Stereo box soon as well
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel That's good news. I'll look forward to watching it.

That box is huge, my money is on under his bed 🙂
Yes maybe I will do a video on all the differences between the mono and stereo versions one day. there are lots of them
Well done on reaching 2k
I bought both mono and stereo boxes in 2009 on cd and vinyl.
I have inherited a few (including Pepper) from my aunt who was a teenager in the 60s but they are not in great shape at all
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel lol it was a lot plus the Rockband game which I said was for the kids.

Sounds great. Maybe you can share it ?
I still would like to buy the Beatles in mono boxing on the vinyl but I think it might be expensive.
I’m just going to keep looking and waiting for the price to come down.
my copies of the Beatles stereo and mono box ads are definitely the real thing which is good I don’t like getting fake things especially fake box sets. no matter how the music is remix the Beatles music will always be fantastic.
To be honest, the longer the mono Lp stays out of print, I can see the rise going up even further rather than coming down unfortunately
Better grab your spyglass to read the lyrics on that poster.
@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Yes, I now consider the Giles Martin 2017 stereo remix to be my go-to for "Sgt. Pepper" on CD.
@@jameswilson7084 Me too
One of the things I regret not getting is the Beatles in mono boxer on vinyl I can’t believe how expensive that is I was looking on Amazon sometimes it would be available but the price is really outrageous I think but I do have the Beatles in mono on the CD. there should be some ways not Apple records could re-issue the Beatles in mono box out on vinyl with the original analog tapes so that way they could get some money rather than losing it.
Yes the LP Mono box set is a huge amount of money to buy these days because it's been out of print for many years now. I will be cover the LP set in epidote 2 of this series
Funnily enough I've been calling the sound of George's guitar circa Rubber Soul the 'Beatle-y tone' for years!
haha!
Congrats on 2K subs!! I knew the stereo CD box set was counterfeited but I didn't know the mono one was as well.

How do I find how do I find a real mono cd set?
Agree the artwork on these mons is incredible. Thanks for this comment and the extra info re the rice-paper sleeves too
The main difference is the original in mono, the fake the CDs are in stereo. Whatever, I bought a fake for £30. Bargain
