- His hhhhhhhh laugh cracked me up, also it ended up telling it's own story. People didn't like this movie, saying it's not the same character but I argue that from time passing since being fired, he changed and this nervous laugh came from therapy and all that.
So, shuttup all you haters and just enjoy a good funny movie.

I like the nervous laugh in this movie. The heaviness of it really represents how David has aged and gone downhill since being made redundant, but at the same time shows he still truly believes in his own head that he’s a fantastic entertainer
The Microsoft promotional video he did as Brent with Steve in 2003 is a masterpiece compared to Life on the road.

It's not the same character. Compare this to the bit he did for Microsoft. That is David Brent. This is an alternate universe version of David Brent.

This film is like Derek doing pretending to be David Brent for 90 minutes.

Exactly! If he had just not done it, it would’ve made the characterization quite a bit better. It still isn’t David Brent, but Brent never did that “huuuuhhhhhh...” thing. In fact, no human being ever has, which is what makes it weird.

@@johno4521 The music in the film wasn't bad at all which does prove Gervais's talent as a musician, but the acting and writing for Brent missed the mark.
Another thing which made it difficult for him was the lack of supporting roles or development of other characters which emphasised the parts when Brent wasn't working too well. (Which was most of the film!)
I can see it becoming a bit of a cult film though, due to the music.

I think Stephen Merchant had a huge part in Brent's character so the movie was not as good with Merchant's absence

Apperantly most people didnt like this laugh because that doesnt sound like David Brent in The Office. But I really enjoyed of that laugh. I have never watched The Office maybe that was the reason it didnt irritate me.
Hypocrite warning
I first noticed the laugh around the time of the 'learn guitar with David Brent' videos he did about 10 years ago. It is really irritating and sounds more like Ray from 'When the whistle blows' than David Brent.

What's the laugh all about? Brent never laughed like that in the office
He had a breakdown somewhere between him being made redundant and taking the job at Lavichem, I think he mentions it early on in the film. I guess its a left over mental 'tick' or something.

Thank you for highlighting the abismal most annoying part of the film for me. Doesn't even make sense why he makes those sounds. Never did it in the original office. Film was rubbish. Just goes to show this is the rubbish you get when you do it alone and Steve merchant isn't apart of it. It's like it was half through out and half executed. Which really it was. Makes me laugh when everyone praises Ricky for the office like he did it all by himself. Because Steve was just as vital to it's success if not a little bit more. I think the result and rubbishness of this film sort of vindicates Steve and shows just how vital he was to the office to begin with. And I personally do not believe Ricky ever gave Steve the recognition he deserved for the projects they shared together. And this film just highlights that Ricky is only half as good when doing an office character alone. I imagine if Ricky and Steve made this film it would have been a fantastic peice of work. But unfortunately it never happened

I guess I’m in the minority here but thought this nervous laugh -acknowledging how awkward and awful David was with his cohorts - was funny (in a mostly unfunny movie).
I'm convinced that shortly after extras finished, when Gervais went to America to be chummy with sex offenders like Louis Ck, he was killed and replaced by a slimmer clone of himself. Its the only logical explanation as to why Gervais has completely lost the ability to do the Brent character. None of the mannerisms are even there. There are impersonators on TH-cam that do a better Brent than Gervais can do. I don't even know how that's possible. It'd be like if Matt Groening suddenly forgot how to draw Homer Simpson
I agree with most of that. Louis CK is not a sex offender just a guy with a kink (wanking in front of women with their consent). We all have our thing.

seems so contrived compared to the original office, lacks authenticity and you can tell before gervais got famous that idea of david brent was taken from his previous bosses, no offence but on the road was shit... i love the office but the humor is incomparable
0:46 it is this colour pallete which I ate the most about Ricky's later work. So drab, they made the people around him so unlikeable and nasty, Te Office had charm because the other characters were flawed and likeable, these guys, and the colour pallete just makes the film feel unnecessarily cold, there is zero fun in this film... Brent's best cartoony faces don't even make an appearance
I've been binge watching some of The Office on TH-cam so downloaded this film to watch on a flight last week. Turned it off after about 15 minutes due to this laugh. It's annoying and not Brent at all.
