Thanks. Dude yeah that’s what I was going for. I dig those old wood clad campers and vans. A lot of guys are building their campers all “tactical” looking, but I wanted something more warm and timeless. Also, good username haha giraffe fist fight
Dude that bumper plug-in is so clean . . . really cool to see your vision becoming reality. Looking forward to seeing it in person. Also, the little saw blade backsplash decoration is a beautiful touch. Yeww
You’re right, it is a bit heavy but not too bad. I went with 3/4 ply to make sure the cabinet would be very sturdy. Since it has drawers and a large hole to accommodate the wheel-well I felt that the strength of 3/4 ply was needed so it wouldn’t deform with vibrations of being in a truck. I just wanted this thing to be tough and sturdy, I am not too concerned about the weight since it’s the only big cabinet I plan on building in the truck. I also added a leaf to my rear suspension and plan on doing more suspension upgrades soon. But for now the truck doesn’t seem to notice the weight at all. 👍
Dude you did a very good job on your camper so far , love the barn door feature on camper , my question is did you do alot of work on your f-150 for reliability , i look forward to future vids of your progress ,
Hey thanks! Drivetrain wise this truck has been bulletproof for me. I keep up on regular maintenance so I suspect it’ll just keep on running. The 351w engine in this truck is one of the best ford ever produced. I have upgraded my power steering pump to a GM style pump, and have suspension upgrades that really help the ride quality.
Really enjoying the videos you're doing on your camper and build out. I'm heavily considering an Ovrlnd for my Comanche and was worried it would look odd on an older truck, but it looks great on your bricknose. Have you gone through the trouble of sealing the tailgate yet? If not how bad is dust? I see some guys talking about how bad the dust can be with the super square back on the truck. I'm thinking it might be easier to seal full length barn doors instead of trying to seal a 38 year old tailgate.
Thanks! The Ovrlnd would look sick on your Comanche. The squareness of the Ovrlnd Campers go so well with the angular body lines of older trucks, way better looking then on new trucks I think. Also Ovrlnd was the only company I could find that would make a camper for my older truck- 4wheel, Topo, Gofast, all don’t make models for older rigs. But Ovrlnd will make them for anything. I’ve just started sealing up my tailgate. I’ll make a video including what I did soon. But overall the dust isn’t terrible. The camper itself is 100% dust sealed. But yeah I’ve been working on sealing up the tailgate of the truck. Full barn doors would fix the dust forsure but I like cooking on the tailgate.
@@Birddoggin69 yeah one of the main selling points is the custom built to the truck aspect of their campers. Mines a long bed so it's an odd size at 5' wide and 7.5' long, so finding a camper that fits is nigh impossible. I've got a slide in Coleman I'm restoring that fits perfect, but it's mostly canvas and I want to be able to go out in the winter and be able to go into bear country. I'm torn because I like the idea of being able to just open a door and be able to get in and out of the truck, but I also like using the tailgate to do certain things. I'm also thinking I might be living out of it part time so having to clean less would make things nicer. Did you get the positive pressure vent? It's supposed to help with dust, but I spend a lot of time on really low speed Forest service roads and I don't know if I'd be moving quick enough for it to do anything.
Ya the Ovrlnd seems like the perfect choice for your truck. They are pricey but you will not be disappointed at all. Comanches are such a cool truck too, I’ve never seen an ovrlnd on one so you’ll have a pretty unique rig. Sounds like full barn door would be a good option for you. Maybe include the “flip down side hatch” option from Ovrlnd and build a side table in it. That way even without a tailgate you would still have a little bit of built-in outdoor workspace. I have that option on my truck and it’s really handy. I’ll include it in a walk around video in a couple weeks. I didn’t opt for a positive pressure vent because I knew it would be difficult to seal my tailgate and allow the vent to work. But if you get full barn doors maybe the positive pressure vent would be a good option. I spend a lot of time on forest service roads too, but I haven’t yet with the new camper on. At the end of July I’ll be headed out on a 2 month trip with the truck so I’ll be sure to update you on dust intrusion. Let me know any other things you’re wondering about the camper and I’ll include it in a video
Love your channel, I like all the instructions as you go about your builds. Greetings from Southern California, I had one question for you about your tires on your Ford. What size and are they and are they the same bolt pattern for a 2016 F-150? God Bless , stay safe out there, Alan
Thanks Alan! The tires are 33x10.5r15, I’m not sure if the bolt pattern is the same for a 2016 Ford. I think newer fords use a little bit larger wheel possibly 16s, but you can definitely find a tire similar to mine that will fit your wheels- just try to get close to a 33 size.
Also, I gotta say the wood laminate changes the entire look of the interior. Makes it look and feel like a much older camper. Fantastic choice.

Nice job on the cabinets🎉🎉👍👍
The bumper solar input is a great idea.
Thanks!

THERE IT IS!!!
Looks great! I have ! question why did you choose 3/4 ply Isn't that heavy and the fact it's a 150 ? aThank you
