You like heavy trailers. Yes that was a galvanized trailer. You could have gotten a www.alumline.com/products/flatbed-heavy-equipment-trailers/flat-deck-hot-shot

Alex, what amuses me the most, is how chill you are in face of all drawbacks and issues you have. That's awesome how positive you are all the times, good humor and smiling. Great personality. Congrats.
well this comment didnt age well
Seems crazy that you live in Texas and drove to Pennsylvania to buy a trailer that is made in Mount Pleasant Texas. I too thought you lived in Pennsylvania.
lol right
Sponsorship!
Probably would've been better quality if he got it from MP
Too bad he didn't
The thing is we can find cheaper things outside of Texas than actually buying it in Texas.
Alex, I've been running a hotshot up here in the Pacific NW for several years now and myself and 3 other hotshot guys up here all use Load Trail trailers that we bought down in Texas at The Trailer Guys dealerships. Best trailers by far, no issues and we have all put hundreds of thousands of miles on them, so they've been tested! Plus the neck is only 93 inches on those trailers, exactly what you need. Their trailers are also light, under 7,000lbs for a 2 axle non cdl 40footer. Let me know if you have any other questions!
What’s the cost of one?
@@MikeyGoesFitness About half the cost of two. LOL
Garry Kennedy 😂😂😂
My 2018 40ft gooseneck 3 axle rated at 24,900 lbs cost me $8,400 brand new out of Texas.
@@silverstartransport6157 what's the name of the dealer ?
The backbone of the new trailer is great, weight, length, axles etc.. you’re dealing with setup issues very well, that might be what it takes to really get it right because they just don’t do that at the factory. Maybe buy a laser and do your own alignments ? Excellent video and thank you for sharing numbers and details.
Alex, your videos are some of the most interesting of all the hotshot channels. I like how you leave the messages from those who disagree with you, because so many just delete those kind... you've got guts. Your energy is in a class of its own, but you could slow down the pace a bit and come through clearer - I think you know that. One of the reasons that you have more subscribers than anyone else is that you create controversy. And the Big Tex brand is at the root of this. No trailers are perfect, but this economy model definitely has some trade-offs for sure. I see that you read the comments, and are more open-minded than most, so if some day you do change your mind about your choice, I would not be surprised. The ultimate sign of strength of character is when someone openly admits they were wrong and then just moves on. 😉
You can do a 40ft container on a 36ft trailer. You can have 4ft overhang on the rear without needing any permits or anything. I’ve done many 40ft loads on my 36ft trailer.
Thats good tp read hope its true.
My 45ft container was delivered 1000 miles on a 30ft hydraulic tilt deck.
@@SubieRow nice good to know I might get a way with it lol.
Hang some comforters on your office wall to stop the echo.
That rusty milkshake is water and rust contaminated oil. That is not a good sign. Was there rust on the bearing races?
Now, you need to carry a grease gun and a bearing packing set (that funnel shaped packing set) so you can repack your bearings every 5000 miles. A supply of inner seals and dust caps would be good.
Or, get some advice from a marine/boat trailer shop that knows how to make bearings tolerate harsh environments.
Rust and water in the oil is ridiculous, I've had oil bath axles for years and my oil has stayed clean the entire time
I learned when pulling trailers that "st" trailer tires are rated at 55 mph, higher speeds will cause blowouts, truck tires cost more and you can pull faster with less risk.
This isn't true, I just bought some tires for my camp trailer and they're speed rating is 81 mph. The "st" has nothing to do with there speed rating.
Buying a new trailer and then having to replace the axles is crazy.
Also What was wrong with the old trailer if you had just put new axels on it?
Turns out he has another driver using it
Texas Pride built me a custom trailer. Granted I’m doing a lot more weight. But I’ve got over 30,000 miles with no issues. I know they weigh more, but if you order custom they may be able to do something about that for you
Circle W trailers in South Alabama builds some quality equipment. Never had any problems like he has here. Coming up on 33k miles. Nothing but basic maintenance.
And engineered beams
I don’t know if you heard of sure pull trailers based out of Emory TX. I’ve had one for a year, I have a 40’ dove tail and it has a 6’ gooseneck, I’ve been all over the country with it, even in the snow. I have no issues with this trailer
Why didn't you get disc brakes? Less problems than drums and CAN'T be out of adjustment at DOT inspection. I had disc's on my hot shot back in the 90's.
So with the cost in trailers...would it just be cheaper to get a CDL so you can run dual 10k tandems and carry more weight? Between axles and blowouts i'd say getting the CDL just to be able to get a better trailer might be worth it..LOL
I agree and now the tow rating of the 1 tons are upwards of 30000 pounds makes sense to get a CDL and not have to worry.
@@Don-bj7sc what is ifta?
@@evanch123456 international fuel tax agreement.
So true, by the grace of God i just got my CDL license 2 days ago, i have a 22gn bigtex so now im setup to run video coming soon
CDL and a bigger trailer has nothing to do with what he just said.. he would probably get a diamond c if the neck was shorter. But its not so big tex is his only chose. Getting a dual tandem doesn't make it indestructible. Its just the brand of trailer he's buying there obviously junk an it shows but its also drivers error as he said also
I bought a 25’ Titan last year with 8k torsion axles.... nothing new. All dust caps from 1200# to 8k are all the same. I got the 8k for the brakes. I bought a Big Tex once had it for 24 hours before I took it back and told them the keep it bent 3/4” of inch out of square on a 3’ dovetail... why not by a Diamond C or a Titan or PJ ?
why not buy a titan , pj or Diamond C ??? Realy? Even after he said in the video about them having the 9 ft. neck and it putting him over the 65 foot rule? Really? LOL
PJ are trash
Changing from oil to grease is "no more warranty" should of wait until warranty expires
I don’t think he keeps the trailers long enough to get out of warranty
If you break down in the middle of nowhere, it will cost you much more than the warranty.
With the down time you get from a broken vehicle when your “working” not using it for personal use, the warranty is worth nothing if you break down and are hundreds of miles away from a place that is willing and able to service the trailer as well as it may be parked for a month, so in simple terms it’s a lot cheaper to fix it yourself in 1 day, not pay a towing company to get it to a big Tex, $300 minimum and it goes up from there In the thousands, the warranty probably does not cover labor do there’s more money being spent after hotel, down time and if you had to hire a towing company to deliver your load plus the food you are eating and dealerships don’t make money on warranty repairs so they usually are not in a rush and they charge a ton of money. Yes this sucks and sometimes you can use the warranty but in the business of making money it’s not worth the down time to warranty a transport vehicle, at my company rarely do we take the truck to the dealership only for them to wait 30 days just sitting until they might be able to work on it and then the dealership makes up a ton of excuses to not warrant the truck and say it’s your fault their was a failure, for instance, your truck won’t go into drive because you have not done the engine oil change, we usually service the truck on everything before taking it to the dealer, so no it’s north worth the warranty if the downtown exceeds the warranty repair, hence why he used to buy new trailers every year so they would have no wear and tear and could at least have a chance at 1 year worth of use on the road, where I work after 5 years on our comercial trucks they buy new ones because we are 90% off road and the shaking and vibrations eats these trucks up where they feel like if we have been driving them for 30 years
Yeah his warranty ended when he hit that concrete barrier a few days after this video.
Wow so many opinions!! I’ve owned all kinds of trucks, trailers, at one time I owned 15 tractor trailers. There’s always going to be problems with something. Even when you have 5 of the same truck or trailer usually one or two of them are gonna cause problems. Just have to roll with the punches. Alex you do a really good job and once again your videos help a lot of people out. Most don’t want to take the time. Keep it up bro. ✌️
Alex Alex Alex, if you just get a CDL all of these problems go away. Do yourself a favor get a CDL!
If he get a cdl why not get in a semi that would make more sense cdl just to do hotshot and you can carry a lot of weight
You also open up a whole lot more load options. CDL drivers can take CDL loads. Non CDL drivers can’t, non CDL are stuck with non CDL loads.
@@percyscott6982 for alot of reasons. The biggest being costs. Equipment, fuel, repairs, and so on.
Great video, sorry to hear about the quality control issues with BigTex hopefully with enough input from their customers that they would improve that
@Old timer hot shot yeah cause this guy really seems like he's keeping down his expenses.🤯
Can you explain again why you de-rate the trailer to 12,000 lbs and how you go about doing it? Getting ready to start my own business and getting ready to order the trailer. So far you are the only hot shot driver that I have found that gives us good information on a consistent basis. Thank you for educating us.
So he stays under 26k. He just orders it that way.
I bought a 2020 16gn at the factory outside Mt. Pleasant, Texas. the Tool box welds broke loose underneath before I got back to west Fort Worth.
I'll bet they are being made in CHINA and shipped there!!
@@richardbarkley9909 Even China does better welds than that.
My advice is stop switching it to grease. Oil not only lubricates but it cools the bearings. It was very easy to pull that seal, so keep extra seals with you
It only took 3 trailers for me to figure out tore-flex axles. You will never go back to those junk leaf springs.
Get rid of the job box. I used belly boxes on my trailor, maid of aluminum. One on each side.
I agree with this, and it will put the straps and blankets and such wh where they actually will be used.
Why not just go CDL? I'd be tired of sleeping in a pickup truck. I had zero experience in trucking, took the online practice tests for CDL licenses and went and got my class A permit, drove a log truck with a buddy of mine 3 or 4 times and went and took the driving part and got my license. Now I have hazmat, tanker, and doubles endorsements with no restrictions. No schooling or money paid out other than for the license. I didn't and still don't even have a use for them. It's actually scary how easy it was to get a class A CDL license.
I would return that piece of junk all them problems already

@@ramblin_man23 lmao... found on road dead problems
I have 40k miles on these axles so far with no leaks from the hubs. I will be changing my hub oil soon for basic maintenance
I don't know if you have already heard of them but Gator has and will customize your desired trailer to your needs, if not wanting that route they have pre-manufactured trailers.
Delta trailers made in Newport, AR also will put these 8,000 pd axles on. I have a 2020 Delta trailer with them on.
Where I work, we have a couple MAXX D trailers and have the torque axles by Dexter and have had nothing but problems with the spindles getting bent. The only remedy for the bent spindle is to replace the whole axle.
I will take straight axle and leaf springs any day of the week
I have had 8k dexter oil bath axles for over a year holding up great no issues at all
I really like your positive attitude about things. Even when things go bad for you, you stay positive. Thanks. To much negativity on youtube. Great information. Thanks
Serious question, how are you going through states like Indiana or Wisconsin with that set up? Their length limit is set at 60’ bumper to bumper if you aren’t registered as a semi/tractor.
With dual torflex axles you are more likely to pop a tire going over a pot hole because they don't act like a reg leaf dual. If i remember correctly dexter themselves doesn't recomend duals or triples that are too close to each other. You can search for torflex axle duals problems. Don't know if they are too close but something to be aware of and look out for.
Thank you for your information about the 8f Go snake I was going to buy a trailer and I wasn’t paying attention to the detail
A true 8k Dexter with the 3 3/8" brake drum and oil bath is a must-have upgrade for the money IMO for a guy that's bumping it down the road all day trying to make a living. Heavier running gear is going to hold up better. Torsion axle vs spring is a tougher one...torsion you have to be a little more careful with were as spring is a little more forgiving, but with added maintenance. The tires they put on there are probably still off brand crap from Asia though.
I have a 1997 mfr date horse trailer with living quarters with. Dexter 8 k torflex axles 12 .25 x 3 brakes (until I fitted hydraulic disc brakes with a dexter brake pump). You will find the 8000 pound brake sets are way longer lasting and more durable. I have used oil bath for a long time. I run the bearings with faint preload to stop the slop that shortens seal life.
Confused as to why anyone would buy from the same manufacturer with all the issues from the previous model???? Remind me again of that definition of insanity ????
Because he thinks he has to have an 8 foot neck and apparently the only people who make or can make on with an 8 foot neck is Big Tex.
2 weeks-- Had a blowout in 5 days, 2 new axles within the first two weeks, welds are off.. Big Tex blows!
Good info, cant wait to here why you need axles. I’m really waiting for someone who puts on the miles to go with electric over hydraulic disc brakes. You say the 8k brakes are bigger but!?!? I guess we’ll see. Can’t you spec out grease axles instead of oil so you can the one with the zirk fitting??
Your videos are great! Great attitude, information and quality.
Already have been running those axles since January. They have been great
8-k is the way to go. smart move Alex
Sounds like you need to contact a Lobbyist in DC and get the overall vehicle length increased a couple feet. Supposedly the DOT is all about increasing the "productivity and competitiveness" of the American worker.
Next time look at like this. If you have a wagon that can haul 200pounds and you load it with 150pounds every day, how long will it last? Now if you have a wagon that can haul 500pounds and you load it with that same 150#’s do you think you will wear it out at the same rate as the wagon rated for 200#’s?
I pulled a 53' flatbed gooseneck with a 2020 Ram 3500 all up and down the I-5 corridor. The company I was working for has gone to court and won against the California Highway Patrol and we all carried a copy of the court judgment in our registration binder but I was never bothered. The key is that we had a 100 gallon fuel tank in the bed leaving less than 34 sp fi of bed space and, as long as you don't carry property in the bed you are a truck tractor not a straight truck. You can carry any equipment for the truck, trailer and tie downs but not shipper property on the truck. I'm CDL but that is not really the issue except that the 53' trailer is heavier and Non-CDL couldn't haul much on a 53'.
Thank you, great explanation
“First of it’s kind” Well good luck with that 😅 in my experience all “first of it’s kind” Will break Down often. But congrats with the trailer👍 love your videos
Why would you never install a HD Wet Bolt kit on your old trailers with the mileage you put in?
I ordered my 8k torsion axles with disk brakes. They work great
Careful with torsion axles. If your trailer isn't level you will overload one of the axles and cause a bunch of damage.
You live in Texas now, why not order directly from them with your specifications and have it delivered through a local dealer instead of Pennsylvania? It sounds like they did not inspect for milky oil in your axles or alignments before you took delivery of it?
I know this is Old would you be interested in a custom-made trailer?
Do you need a 8' or can it be shorter like a 7'6" with 40'6"' deck ? or 7'8" with 40'4" deck

I really thought the new trailer would be iron bull. But guess it did not measure up..😀 Have a great day..😀👍☕️🍫🇺🇸
The dealer doesn't put the required DOT reflective on the trailer, as they are selling it for private use. Being commercial is where you run into the problem. I buy the reflective in 100 ft rolls and then have it as needed.
I pay $363 for 10 K backing plates with hydraulic brakes. I need to email you some information on where I get mine, shipped UPS. They are cheaper than buying direct from Dexter.
i would get flatbed trailer with spots for straps and chains also ramp is a must that way i can haul different kinds equipment i dont get guys who just haul cars

Torsion 8 K's have been around for about 3 to 4 years there's nothing new about them

I have been 8k torsions on carhaulers and stock trailers for years... so not new
You should see what my 22gn looks like sighting down the rub rails. It's only a 20+5 and it looks like a banana, since new.
Hi! Alex, I am thinking about wat you said on your trailer issues with the single tires, one come to one side and the other gone to other side when you backed up,wat happened if you used a wide tires in the last axles maybe both tires moved to same way, I said so!!!! Let me know if made sense, thanks you, please keep focused in your job, your doing great 👍🇵🇷🇺🇸🤟🤙🙏🙏🙏
You need to equip your trailer with 17.5 tires with a load Range 'G' rating ! They have a very stiff Steel matrix in their sidewall which means there is little OR NO side to side movement !
Me. Gator. 40ft hydraulic dove. Hydraulic landing gear. Air-ride. 6×8 deck over the gooseneck. Shocker coupler. Air bags on the truck. I spent the extra money No problems. At all. You have spend money to make money Alex.
That silver trailer is galvanized and the holes are for stakes to contain the load.
glad I ordered a Diamond C.....
I was thinking the same thing!
Where can i find it. I've been doing flatbed 18 months and I'd like to do it myself
Why Diamond C over what he is explaining?
Have the area around where the axles meet the chassis reinforced with extra steel so that the axles don't start tearing off from all the driving and vibrations.
New
The shaft itself that they are using isn't thick enough gauge.
here is the issue with torsion axle . if you load over the back with your ramps . you need to block the back of the trailer so it does't drop down . the torsion is just a rubber filled tube .it gets what they call a memory .this is why they don`t e recommend them for car huller guys. but that bitch will be light an quiet when you tow down the road . good luck . an i am 100% with you on service .i hate paying for anything but if some one takes cars of you then it makes things better haha
I'm still not impressed with Big Tex trailers.

Why would run your trail at it's max safe loading? I run heavier tires and axles to have higher safety margin.
Can you do a video of changing oil bathe to grease?
This makes me wanna get into Hotshot trucking
I bought a 'Big Disappointment' flatbed and dump trailer a few years ago when they had their rebates. I went back to PJ a year later....not the best, but better. Now they are under the same ownership, so PJ quality will probably go down. You need to get a custom built aluminum trailer!

WHY not a three axle trailer to reduce axle/ weight problems?????
Get a custom one built Here in San Antonio from Southwest Gooseneck, They will custom build you anything you want. The city buys their trailers from them, I could probably get you a price on one too.
a good welder can convert them too 7k brakes and hubs but id do hydro disc brakes then you get parts at any parts house

Please do a brake job on the trailer for instruction, thanks.
Why you didn’t purchase trailer in Texas?
Why you didn’t put a Gooseneck Air Shocker Surge Hitch?
Have you ever looked into Texas Pride making you a trailer? I saw some videos on then and they seem like they are really nicely built with good quality control and options for 9k single wheel axles
They are pretty nice trailers priced well. The only down side is the paint sucks, it chips real easy but a rattle can touches it right up.
warren michael that’s interesting, the video I saw was showing and talking about how much pride they take in prep and painting their trailers, mentioning many other manufactures don’t care as much as them
@@lParohlx I know, i watched their videos too. I had heard before i bought mine that the paint wasnt great but i needed a trailer and they had exactly what i needed and had it ready in a little over a week. Im telling you, the paint chips if you look at it to hard! LOL I guess the reason they are cheaper than other trailers is because they dont use expensive powder coating. I use mine everyday and do not mind it chipping and scratching. I just use some black spray paint every now and then.
I have a 41 ft Texas Pride with the 9K axles. I have my CDL but have my setup for 26,000 to stop from messing with IFTA. I have an H Plate(26,000 pound) on my truck and an ST plate( semi trailer) on the trailer. The truck plate carries all the weight since the ST trailer plate doesnt have a weight rating.
What camera do you use?
Nice resolution.
Big Tex leaves crates with axles piled on out side for weeks, hense moisture in the oil. It seems like all the manufactures do it. Also those bearings inside those dexter axles are the cheapest money can buy from China!
All the competition is already 2021 model years, and most companies come with Dexter or LCI axles.
Looking to get a 03 sierra 3500 dually and 2 car hauler. Opinion would be great. Great videos
Most states make you have a CDL with the gvw combination of your rigs, even if empty.
Check out Lamar trailers they look well made they are powder coated and weight is 7000 for the 16k trailer
Thank you
Hey Alex! New guy here getting started in NON CDL world and looking to be compliant and totally above board. Im running a 14k GVWR dually. My question is, with a trailer down rated to 12k, which weighs 6k, doesn’t that mean that you’re limited to 6k of freight before you go over it’s tagged (down rated) gvwr which could garner a violation? Or do they just care about gvwr of truck and trailer combined, but not if I’m over the gvwr of the trailer? 6k doesn’t seem like much to be able to haul?
you can haul more than 6000 cause some of the weight is going into the truck also. Axle rating and weight distribution is what you have to pay attention to. load mizer has a good video on this. I have held a cdl and drive big trucks for a living for 30 years load mizer videos are 100% correct on this point.
I want to know who's old dodge that is at your house and if it's yours is that the new electric truck 🤔🤔🤔
Do you do a conversion kit from oil to grease on the axles.? Thank you
Well his video is another great one and answers my previous question. Thanks
Ask Human about big Tex trailers . At the length of the trailer the axles will always be over loaded.
Surprised you dont put up the big money for a custom alum trailer or try replacing the wood with that composite stuff
So if you trucks GVWR is 14k lbs and your trailer weighs 7k lbs that means you can only legally haul 7k lbs correct? Without a CDL?Sorry I’m new and just trying to learn.
Next time around you should call and check out midsota trailer sales. Avon Minnesota. They also make Nova trailers . I do not work nor am i affiliated with them in anyway I just buy their trailers and love them . There paint is unmatched great quality PPG
I would have went 10k axles and 18ply tires but still a hell of a upgrade!
Alex, do you know if Big Tex has corrected their initial quality problems? Why did you go all the way to PA to get that trailer? Isn’t it available any closer to you?
I have talked to my local enterprise about the long term truck rental at .22 cents per mile. They give me a look like I’m crazy! Can you give me a name and number of someone with enterprise that knows what that program is? Please! Don L.
