I can't find anything online to support my thought that this was in response to that, but I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that at the time. True or not, the timeline fits, as does the theme of the song. You may hate HF, but Billy Gilman's voice is spectacular and he takes the lead with HF taking total background. You actually only see the tenor from HF and Billy in the video, which is a message of bullying and those who believe the world is better off without them. There's a whole storyline going on with actors that doesn't focus on the singers much at all. It's touching. And my God ... Billy Gilman's voice as an adult ... I rooted hard for him on The Voice. That man can sing.

Weird facts since I know him to a degree nothing crazy because i dated his personal trainer when I was an older teen haha. He's from Rhode Island, and when he hit puberty it did take him some time to adjust but not just vocals, but because he was gay and the country community didnt except that. So it was difficult for him to find his voice as an adult. He's such a sweet person in general though. He did a charity where he took a child cancer patients poem book and turned those poems into an entire album and donated all proceeds, but it never became big. He ended up being a life guard for awhile, but he did come back to music, not as country though when he got older on the voice.

Billy has a Pitch Perfect voice, perfect technique and is an awesome vocalist. He just really didn't want to do country music....and btw the colab he did with Home Free for this song a year or so ago was really good, because he did the main vocals. He did have to adjust when he went through puberty....Billy is a highTenor, just shy of Counter-Tenor, he covers Freddie Mercury and Celine Dione perfectly with no strain, his voice soars to the rafters. But yeah never had any association with Disney.

Yeah, I'm guessing that's not going to happen. To say they're not fans of Home Free is an understatement. Home Free's fan base also helped turn them off to the group because they didn't like their critique. Billy has an adult solo version that might appeal to them.

The reason the fan base reacted so negative is because of the negative jabs that their music wasn't music because they didn't have instruments, even before they heard the song. So this was an early 2000s release so he is in his mid 30s now. He was kind of a one hit wonder. He did compete on The Voice and won but still doesn't have much of a career outside of private events and small time gigs that I am aware of. He just never could overcome the popularity of that song.

Absolutely. I don't know why everyone points to that song to introduce them to Home Free. They have so many that are WAY better. Helplessly Hoping is amazing. I know Keith loves guitarwork, but their harmonies are so incredible, they don't need instruments. Their version of God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and the US Air Force Band Chorus sends chills every time. Their video of this song with Billy Gilman really shows a troubled teen who changes and the throwing of the gun is a more important part of the story. Their version of Don't Laugh at Me, with Mark Wills is another remake of an oldie that is still relevant today. And I like that they let the original singer be the lead and are just the support behind them.

The gun imagery was pretty subdued in this version. Suicide wasn't talked about back 20 yrs ago. In the new version with Home Free, it is more up-front, and it hits you harder.

I was really hoping they would discuss the gun imagery in the song and I'm almost all the way through the video and they have yet to do that, nope, didn't even discuss it, pretty disappointed

The gun imagery was pretty subdued in this version. Suicide wasn't talked about back 20 yrs ago. In the new version with Home Free, it is more up-front, and it hits you harder.
