I love sharing this legend with folks new to Weston. Brigadier General Carl Darnall grew up in Cottage Hill (historically was this quasi-Weston area, now for post office reasons lumped in as Celina, like the rest of Weston). Darnall invented the chlorination device present in all water municipal systems today. He never sought a patent and his invention of providing clean water is credited with saving hundred of millions (perhaps billions?) of human lives across the planet. Biggest public health contribution of all time. And it all started on a farm in Collin County...right outside of Weston.
Great video, I grew up in Collin County and can tell you about the population mystery. Weston once had an ETJ to the South that went down FM 543 withing 2 miles of Hwy US 75. Weston once occupied the homes in a neighborhood (built in the 80's-90's) along FM 543 near the present Trinity Falls subdivision. Annexation procedures were reviewed by the state and several Collin County towns were forced to de-annex some of their territories. Much of this territory is now occupied by McKinney ETJ. People never moved; it was the town boundaries. Today Weston is rapidly developing with "Lagoon" neighborhoods and several upscale homes. Their tax base is starting to get very "healthy".
