Awesome detailed video. I have to replace the seal in my rear window and this video is a huge help. Thanks for taking the time to make it so detailed.

I have a 2000 Rord Ranger 4X4 XLT that I gave $760 for and it has the solid back glass. I went to a local junkyard and bought a complete sliding back glass for about $50 . The junkyard truck had mostly all the trim removed. I removed the rear sliding glass in about 15 minutes. I could see by the junkyard truck, that rear glass would be time consuming to remove, if most of the trim pieces weren't removed. What I liked most was the glass frame was bolted in and when the glass was unbolted using a 9mm socket , gently pry and push to break the seal loose and push the frame outward toward the tailgate. There was a friend with me and I was on the inside pushing out gently but firmly and bot to bend the frame and my friend was on the outside to guide and pull the frame out . An extra set of hands is better for the actual removal of the frame and window . If I didn't have a friend to help , I'm sure I could have gotten the frame out without damaging it . I haven't installed the sliding window yet because I haven't had time and wasn't sure how to remove the trim pieces.
Thank you for posting this great , detailed video . I will use this video for reference on how to remove th trim pieces and remove the headliner and put it all back together.

HOLY CRAP. I'm looking to replace the rear glass on my '00 Ranger so I watched this whole thing and learned a lot before even starting on my own. But then with the "if you like this kind of stuff, then..." and you panned down a floorpan that I know VERY well, I let out an audible Oh Dang! ...So I'm subscribing. I have a '69 bug that I have already done a lot to. I likely will never pull the body, though I'm interested in following along in your process. Cheers!

1999 is different than the 2004 in this video, however you are in luck because the older models are much easier to replace. No need to remove the headliner. Just remove the trim around the window, pull the screws and pop out the old window.

Interesting, I just pulled out the rear window of my Ranger. I didn't bother pulling out the headliner or most of the trim. around the headliner. Pulled out some of the pins and used a wrench to back off the nuts. It worked like a charm. Once the truck is resprayed back everything will go into place. One more thing to note, they used a thin layer of butyl caulk as well. Don't get me started about the 3/4 windows. There was nothing but insane amounts of caulk holding those in place. Took me a good 2 hours to clean that mess up without solvents.

Curious about the year of your truck. Pre-2004 models were a lot easier to get the rear window out.

EXTREMELY WELL DETAILED 👍 ; don't worry about the length. Every second of YOUR vid was worth it , & without useless jibber jabbering ( done by some just to stretch the video to the supposedly "golden" 10minute+ mark )🙁
YOUR words had VALUE , & the camera views were mostly on-target. As far as i'm concerned , your QUALITY is in the TOP 3% 👏 🔧💪 .
( not trying to throw shade on 80%+ of the DIY vids out there , but MOST need more actual EDITing than they're given. It sure looks like you took some _extra_ time to make your work *WATCHABLE* , informative without fluff ) 🏆

I looked into it. The windows are made in a way that you can’t disassemble and reassemble the frame around the glass. There are some aftermarket “glue-in” solutions, but it doesn’t look factory or even very good in my opinion. Your best bet is to find a junkyard and get a rear window from a ranger there. Good luck!

You shouldn’t be careless at the salvage yard when remove the part you need. Damaging the part that’s in the way, makes it aggravating to the person looking for the part you destroyed. So, be thoughtful and respectful.

Thanks for the input. TH-cam decided to start running mid-roll ads automatically on all my videos without my permission. Now if I want my videos ad-free I have to go in and specifically tell them not to, when no ads used to be the default setting.
