      Man, oh man-to have been right there to witness first-hand one of the most legendary moments in sports history...how cool is that?! In an on-the-field post-game interview with KP, Jim Kaat said the moment the ball went over the wall, the sound level in the Metrodome was measured at 120 decibels-that's like laying your head on a jumbo jet engine at full throttle; practically deafening. Ah, #34. A true legend of the game who's terribly missed to this day.

      @@paulsonj72 CBS TV IMO made a huge mistake by not making Vin the lead Play-Play Announcer when they had the MLB TV package in the early '90's. So what that Vin was associated with NBC.
      And lastly shifting gears. I know some say Kirby does not belong in the HOF. However IMO winning 2 world series, being one of the better defensive outfielders of the 80's and early 90's and most important being to this day probably the most popular player in Twins history when the team nearly moved to Denver in the mid 80's, is more than enough to put him in Cooperstown.

    I remember when they trotted Leibrandt out to face Puckett, I turned to my brother and said (or rather yelled) "Why are they letting Leibrandt pitch to him? He's going to hit a HR off this guy!"

    • @ADEAL918
      @ADEAL918 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      VCR Time Machine Leibrandt had actually struck him out twice in Game 1 though. None of the problems Leibrandt had in that game were at the hands of the three batters scheduled to hit against him in the 11th. Puckett, Davis, and Mack were a combined 0 for 6 against him in that game.

    • @deanladue3151
      @deanladue3151 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Puckett and a few of the other Twins had a previous history against Leibrant when he was in KC. In fact, in late September 1987 the Twins faced Leibrant and KC at the Metrodome with a chance to clinch a tie for the AL West Division crown. Leibrant never made it out of the 1st inning as the Twins absolutely smoked him.

  • @bitterangrydrunk

    Leibrandt had a not insignificant role in the Twins' '87 championship season. In the final regular season home game, in a start for the Royals, he allowed three first-inning HRs as the Twins clinched a tie for the division title. That was really the first time that fan noise in the dome became an outsized factor. In any case, Bobby Cox was butt nuts to bring him in with the game on the line to pitch to Puckett.

    • @deanladue3151
      @deanladue3151 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately Cox had no other choice, he had basically used up his entire staff outside of Smoltz and Glavine to try and win Game 6.

      @@deanladue3151 That's not really true though. The Braves still had the likes of Wohlers, Clancy, and Mercker in the pen.

    • @deanladue3151
      @deanladue3151 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1981lashlarue the score was tied after 9 innings. I think Bobby Cox was thinking that does he take the risk of using those pitchers in another extra inning game knowing that they could possibly lose and head into Game 7 with a spent relief staff. He took a gamble that Liebrant could hold off the Twins for an inning and lost.
