I'm curious if you ever use the search feature in Windows when opening applications that are buried under several subfolders and or at the very bottom of a super long list? This almost seems mandatory if you're not using menu replacement. (note you do still have the option to elevate to admin when doing that)

why does the installation process need java to be installed??

How does updating the Windows controller software work when you have it installed as a service? Do you have to repeat the steps after the upgrade to the new software to recreate it as a service?

No complaints with the video but the consept.. (Edit: The following is directed towards anyone watching this video and planning to run Unifi on a Windows Server.)
Sure, you can install it but eh. I don't want Java anywhere near my Windows Server and I don't think you do either.
Run it in a Debian VM if you must have it on the same box or on an Raspberry Pi or fork the 75€ or whatever for the Cloud Key.

Yeah, not trying to argue with you nor do I wish to. As I said no complaints with the video and I probably should have included that this isn't really directed at you. I worded my comment more towards someone watching this video and hopefully taking a look at the comments before he/she decides to do it.

I know the Vid is 2 Years old, but I stumbled upon it right now.
Hint: to start a windows service from command line you use: net use
In this actual example it would be: net start UniFi

So I used to do this and it worked great. The problem I ran into was when I needed to update the controller.
Please do an update to this video when unifi releases a new version.

I did this and it worked fine the first few times and I used to update the UniFi controller and rewatch and redo everything and it used to work fine. Since recently updated Java I'm getting an error message when running the install command "Error: Unable to access jarfile lib\ace.jar"? Anyone have any idea on what to do?

Hey just found out why this is happening and thought I can let you guys know just in case it helps anyone else experiencing the same. I did not navigate to the UniFi directory on the local user account before hand. Before typing the install command make sure your terminate is in the UniFi directory and not in the system32 directory as it is when you normally start cmd as admin.

If it will run correctly I would move the installation under %ProgramFiles% or %ProgramFiles(x86)% depending on 32/64bit code and out of the users profile. Disabling Windows firewall in a lab fine, not in PROD unless your behind a filtered subnet. Even then its not the best idea. I agree with not installing Java on a DC or Windows in general. $70 for Cloud Key or a Pi if you cant go VM. As with any IT project opinion abound so take my 2 cents with a grain of salt. Keep up the good work.
