Let's say I wanted to connect an ES to port 2 of this Cisco. The ES would have an ip on vlan2 but would also need to pass vlan3. No need to do anything with vlan1. Port 2 on Cisco would be a trunk port passing vlans 2&3, and the port connected to the ES would be a trunk with vlan 2&3 also, however with the ES the default vlan is 1. How would the ES be configured to match the vlans of the Cisco? I had set the ES as a trunk port and configured all three vlans. Then set ports except trunk to vlan 2 untagged and exclude vlan 1. However dhcp does not work in this scenario.
Hey Willie, setting encapsulation is mostly older devices (2950, 3560, etc), newer devices such as the 2960(G,S,T) and 3750(G) don't support ISL encapsulation anymore, therefore your only option is 802.1q :)
@@WillieHowe They don't drop them because you will still run into older out in the field and you need to know it. I just decommed a site with a 2821 , 1841 (they had voice on it!), and 4 3560s that were active and in use daily at a business. It's like knowing classful routing, you need the info but NO ONE does it anymore.
Good video, however the quality of the video is very port. You need to lower you screen resolution. If you are not watching this on a 1080p display you can see the video very well. Thanks! Love watching the videos!
Hi, from México, Nice vídeo , have a one question if possible connect Sw Dell layer 3 to ubiquiti switch unifi and generate vlans, svi, trunking , acl extended , and only ubiquiti sw layer 2 to connect a final users? Thanks buddy and waiting
Hey Willie, nice video. There's one thing I'm wondering about though. I'm doing a lab, trying to connect a cisco switch 2960 series directly to an USG. Wanting to send DHCP for native vlan as well as vlan 2. (through same LAN port (subinterfaces)) I'm kinda trying to recreate 'router on a stick' with the USG. I'm pretty versed in cisco, so I'm sure about my config. Not getting it to work though. DHCP on native vlan works flawlessly, but devices on F0/2 aren't getting any DHCP action. Switch config: INTERFACE F0/2 (connected to End device) SWITCHPORT MODE ACCESS SWITCHPORT ACCESS VLAN 2 INTERFACE F0/12 (Trunk to USG) TRUNK ENCAPSULATION DOT1Q SWITCHPORT MODE TRUNK SWITCHPORT TRUNK ALLOWED VLAN 1,2 Any idea's on what I might be doing wrong with my vlan2 config on USG? It's identical to the native vlan config (except vlan number and difference in subnet and default gateway address, ofcourse) This lab is in preparation of job related stuff, so all suggestions are welcome.
Awesome work Willie! Is it possible , at the Network Theory , to explain and see the use of each kind of NAT via examples? (static , dynamic ,symmetric etc.) Thanks!
Awesome video Willie, Love the idea of interconnecting different brands to Unifi. I'm also waiting for the next video on that network build from last Sunday.
Great video Willie, now I'm a lot clearer when dealing with Cisco/UniFi hybrid network. Keep it up! How's the network build from last Sunday livestream going?
Hey Willie, your videos always go smooth but never for me. LOL I have a Production Cisco switch, a port as a trunk and vlans on UBNT, both can't see each other.
Great video!! Have you ever discover how to perform "ip helper address" on a Unifi Switch if you have a DHCP server running instead of the router acting as a DHCP?
In the Cisco world, "ip helper-address" is a command run on the SVI of a router or L3 switch, and not a valid command on an L2 switch - why would you want to run it on an Unifi switch?

have you ever used cisco poe switch (802.3af/at) to power access point (Non-Cisco Device) that compliant with 802.3af/at?

Willie Howe if only we were that lucky. Currently studying for CCENT, hopefully they drop it on the next iteration of tests.
Willie Howe yeah? I've always been told that the Comptia certs aren't worth much because they are so easy compared to Cisco and Microsoft certs
Willie Howe will do, thanks!

Willie, I was wondering what you thought about the Ubiquity Certifications. If they are worth it and what would you recommend to get.
Did I miss the ASA video?

Hi Howe, is it possible to used USG to a Cisco switch ( 2960/ 3560?), unifi cloud key to switch. thanks.
i haven't tried it yet, but can a cloud key be seen a cisco swithc on unifi dashboard controller? or only all unifi devices? thanks
@@devonsingua4989 I would like to know this too
