    6:00 The whistle is known as a Boatswain's whistle (pronounced Bo-sun's) in the Navy. It's used formally preceding announcements, arrivals, departures, and during ceremonies.

    Praxis incident is directly inspired from Tchernobyl incident. Wanting peace suddenly is also inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall and the possible collapse (not yet happened before film came out) of the USSR.
    Hell, even Rura Penth is called a GULAG...

      I hate to admit how long it took me to realize it was a parallel to the Chernobyl Accident. Actually believe it was when the Chernobyl HBO series came out, lol.

    To deliver a feel-good conclusion to any story, especially for the characters, is an achievement in its own right. It makes me happy that the TNG crew got their long over-due send off in the 3rd season of Picard. I swear, Hollywood used to be able to bring us such great stories back in the day.

    • @PatrickStewart316
      @PatrickStewart316  ปีที่แล้ว

      I still haven’t watched Picard. So scared they will ruin it.

      @@PatrickStewart316 Don't watch the first two seasons. Only the 3rd is good, and it delivers a satisfying conclusion for the TNG crew.
      The people who did the first two seasons left and a new showrunner was brought in, who is a huge TNG fan and he got rid of a majority of the cast and filmmaking crew of the previous seasons who remained, instead bringing on people he trusted to help him and he brought back the old TNG characters for this season. He made sure the season was self-contained, so you don't even need to have seen the two previous seasons. It's pretty much referred to as either the unofficial Season 8 of TNG or Star Trek: Legacy.
      I say give it a watch. You won't be disappointed.

    One thing that has always bugged me - Kirk said in his log early in the film "I could never forgive them", but in the recording of that log played back in the trial he says "I have never been able to forgive them"

      Makes me wonder if there was a change in delivery of the line in one of the takes and it got mixed up.

      The spacing between words is different as well. I don't know why they felt the need to re-record that or use a different take at least.

    The final course heading: 2nd Star to the right and on till morning. Those are the directions in Peter Pan to reach Never Never Land; where you literally never grow old.
    So they're not "just flying around" they're having a moment about the sadness of retiring and being filled with childlike joy instead. If you don't dig it...I'm human so recall Spock's final line.

    This one is great. As a child I noticed it was the first Star Trek movie that Kirk was noticeably chubby and grey. I didn’t recognize him at first. Now that I’m older I recognize and respect it. Anyway, it’s written exceptionally well. Great return for Nicholas Meyer.

    The whistle is a old navy thingy. Since Gorkon is from the diplomatic end of stuff it's to announce them on board. they did it in the beginning of star trek 2 original tos film, when kirk enters the enterprise for the inspection. i believe in the old days it was on a thin tin whistle thingy; when a delagation or captain entered on board.

    Loved the symbolism of Brock Peters who defined a fight against racism in “To kill a mockingbird” being given the most racist line in this movie about “alien trash”. Close to being too on the nose but it worked beautifully

    Christian Slater got the part because his mom was the casting director. People talk about Nepo Baby, but I would pull that card if I got a chance to be in a movie with my favorite actors!!

    Still my favorite ST movie, the themes work so well for an aging crew who as they get older have to learn to get over their personal biases and grudges against a peace treaty.

    As many big franchises do, some supporting actors get multiple roles. You have Rene Aberjonis ( spelling ) as the colonel there, then he's a main character on DS9. Brock Peters is an admiral there, then a supporting character on DS9; also he was Darth Vader in the radio version of some Star Wars stuff. Michael Dorn, already on TNG, later as a DS9 main character, is here. Kurtwood Smith, as the Federation President, was a guest star on Voyager.

    • @PatrickStewart316
      @PatrickStewart316  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. I had no idea that many actors went on to play other roles on the franchise. Michael Dorn was the only one I was aware of. Awesome call outs there.

    Only Spock could pull off that "I've been dead before" and fucking mean it. He really was vicious with the mind-meld, because he pretty much mentally raped her for the truth, which is why his reaction after coming out of it was always jarring.

      Keep in mind I saw these as a child. The nuance of 4 was lost on me. No high action, explosions or definable enemy. Much older, 4 has stood the test of time and 6 is nowhere near as good as I remember. Life and time changes us all.
