- WW2 Bratislava and Post Communism tour with Authentic Slovakia Tours. We travelled to Slovakia's capital city, Bratislava, to learn about the Nazi occupation, soviet annexation and communist power. We met Peter our guide at SNP Square (Námestie Slovenského národného povstania) Learning about the break up of Czechoslovakia, we look at the Velvet Revolution and Velvet Divorce. We learn about Vasil Bilak and the suppression of the Prague Spring in Slovakia and Bratislava. We explore the death of Hartman Tautz on the Czechoslovakian/Austrian border whilst also checking out abandoned bunkers along the old Iron curtain in Bratislava. @@TimesWithJames 1)"slovak" history was one and the same with Hungarian history up unitl 1920. then it became part of Chechoslovakia - in which Chechs dominated, up until 1939. Then , for a few years, it had its own Fascist dictator. Then, under communism, it was chechosolvakia agin, agin, with czech dominance.
2) "slovak" is made-up culture. Most slovak folk-songs have a Hungarian counterpart with the same tune, and the Hungarian intonation is very different from all the neighbouring countries. Even the slovak hymn is a hungarian folks-song. All the slovak custims have Hungarian origin.
3) The "slovak language, up until the 1800-s, was a Slavic langauge heaveily mixed with hungarian element, until the language-reformers came and 'cleansed' the "slovak" language from Hungarian influence.
The slovak government, sensing that everything about slovakia is fake, conducts a very heavy assimilation policy against the Hungarian minority. Hungary has actual history and customs, slovakia is FAKE.
Vox Populi point 1 I fully cover in the video (I guess you’ve watched it?!) and your other points don’t really have an angle on the communist and WW2 history of the area. Regardless of what language they spoke or what lyrics were in their songs!

The company I work for att has a presence in Bratislava. They employ a lot of people from Slovakia.

@@TimesWithJames Bratislava is the richest and most developed town in Slovakia. There are big differences between life in Bratislava (perimeter 100km ) and the other part of country. Your work is great, my comment was just reaction on " Authentic Slovakia" in title.
Hi Tomas, the original concept of the brand included similar tours around Kosice and some longer trips across the country covering the topic of the 20th century changes in (Czecho)Slovakia. None of that was as successful as Bratislava tours. The name remained the same even without offering these options, hope you understand that. During our tours we ususally try to emphasise the same point you mentioned - Slovakia is very varied country and we try to lure visitors to see more of it.

I oppose to peter about his description of pioneers. He was just a child in 1989 - so he cannot judge properly. It was not that bad, I barely remember some political pressure or something similar. I think some older person should be there who was real witness of socialist time not just 7 year old child. It would be more accurate.
