Today I wanted to talk about the 7 things that I like about Slovakia as a foreigner. I went on a walk around the outskirts of Bratislava for the national Slovak Constitutions day, found a small lake, and got into the topic :)

The bridge in 5:01 belongs to Bratislava airport. Thats why there was a fence. The bridge only holds navigation lights marking direction to runway which is about 300 meters from the bridge.
I am impressed with your pronunciation of Slovak words. Usually foreigners tend to slur c's, r's and s's but in your case they are crisp like a native. Also, you must have walked past my house 😄
I've heard both Slovak & Czech being spoken throughout my life due to family, even in the States, so perhaps that had an impact! I also took a self-study online Slovak course a few months before I moved here, e-slovak.sk, the one I recommend in my description sections ✌
its actually only the southern part that is this flat, if you go little bit up north it looks very very different :D
Slovakia actually has the most castles per capita in the world.
This is true, I should mention this some time..
Regarding the trains.. there are express trains that stop only at larger towns and cities, they’re pretty efficient. And there are trains that stop at a lot of small towns and villages too … those can take for ever.
Hello Sterba, I appreciate your optimistic general evaluation of Slovakia. I was born there, grew up there and I never liked commie blocks (apartments). However, living in Ireland for many years, apartments here is so terrible to compare to Slovakia. Anyhow, you are unusual person, which I like. Yeah, I think the communist-era apartment buildings would be interesting to talk about. I'm hoping to do a future video on them. And yes, I'm hoping to visit the High Tatras at some point!
Hi Sterba! Interesting list of things you like, I wasn't expecting the Slovak language to be one of them. 🙂Your pronunciation of Slovak words is really good. You are right about the September 1st being the Day of the Constitution, but it is not our independence day. Slovak Constitution was adopted exactly 4 months before Slovakia even started to exist, weird, right? Czechoslovakia ceased to exist on the last day of 1992 and the very next day, on January 1st, two new independent republics were created. So the Czech and Slovak independence day is January 1st, the New Year's day. It will be next week and it will be a special one, the 30th anniversary. But nobody actually celebrates the independence day, the vast majority of people of both republics didn't want to split in 1992, so there was no big reason to celebrate it. Happy Christmas!
I am definitely a fan of the Slovak language, Czech as well. Aha thanks for the correction, I assumed the Day of the Constitution & Independence Day where the same. The history of Czechoslovakia & their now respective republics has always interested me. :) I will look into more of the history behind Independence Day & the split. @@nicksterba They basically wanted to get the constitution done and legal framework agreed before the split (4 months prior - 1st Septeber 1992) . It was agreed and finalised that day but went into effect only after separation = 1st January 1993 when the country - separate Slovakia was established.

Hi Sterba, thank you for lovely video. Based on your top 7 things which you like you should visit Slovak Raj/Slovak paradise. It's lovely place which you for sure you will love it. The lovely villages there are Dedinky and Stratena, Stratenska pila and Cave - Dobsinska ladova jaskyna. It's great to hear some like something about our country, because usually only complain about things. Pls. find time to visit Hight Tatras, there are so many places for hiking, I'm sure you will love it, for example Popradske pleso - you can get there by tram from station Poppradske pleso, or you can hike from Strbske pleso. I'm positive you will like it.

man your pronunciation is really, really good. Not many foreigners can pronounce slovakian words that well. Enjoy slovakia, I hope you will have only nice experience.

Mate you're near Bratislava airport and that bridge serves 2 purposes. It holds lights for runway and carries pipes and wires across Small Danube. Also lakes are called Zelená Voda (literal translation would be green water) and i remember when there was floating chain excavator on them.
Hmmm...I thought it was the bridge they use for getting rid of the Americans. 😂🤣😂

Hey thanks for letting me know! I felt like it served some purpose for the airport. The translation of "Zelená Voda" to "green water" seemed odd to me at first, but hey, it works.
@@nicksterbagreen waters would be more apropriate in english imo just because it fits. Btw did you visit Mohyla? It's near the airport, maybe 2km from the bridge.

Little Danube in fact, is a branch of Danube river, but it is about 100 km long. The land between Danube and Little Danube is de facto a big island called Žitny ostrov. What I mind is, that Little Danube smells by petrol from Slovnaft refinery and by sewage from waste water facility in Vrakuna……
Interesting stuff would like to see everything you are talking about though. You are cute but it would be nice to see what you are actually saying. 😊

I couldn’t watch the full video because of all the “ammm”, “but ammm”, and “ah”. You should work on that because your content is interesting but it is kind of annoying.
@@elimcur thank you for mentioning that, others have mentioned this too. I'm very aware of my speech style. Check out my most recent video, should be much smoother, verbally. I recorded it a first time, then deleted it and re-recorded a couple days later because my first take on the video had too many uhhs and ums. I'm working on speaking more smoothly, thanks for watching 🤙
I'd recommend that you go to the northern Slovakia. Bratislava is very metropolitan with spoiled people. The north at least looks nicer.
I've been to some parts of the High Tatras, and it's very beautiful over there. Still a lot to see and even videos to make next time I go 😁
