    By accepting cookies from the Oracle, neo is allowing the oracle to track information about him such as his browsing activity and history whithin the matrix. This may be required for the Oracle to function properly so that he may experience relevent content during his visit.
    However, due to new gdpr regulation, neo will have to sign an acceptance form before acepting any new cookies in the matrix part 4

      She (the Oracle) doesn’t “flat out” tell him that he isn’t The One. Neo said it. Her response was “Sorry Kid. You got the Gift, but it looks like you’re waiting for something.” So, in essence, she actually confirms that he is The One by telling him that he had the “gift” of The One. He just didn’t pick up on that. She wanted him to say/realize it for himself. What she was “sorry” about was that he still didn’t see it. Watch the scene again.

But if Trinity ate the cookie (or whatever food she was offered), she could have been manipulated the same way. Same for all the others that went to see the Oracle. This also explains why those that believe in her, believe in her so strongly.
    Also also, this might be why Smith doesn't take the cookie when she puts it on the table & goes on that seemingly weird rant about it. Since he's assimilated Sarif already, he knows what the cookies do.

    The whole trilogy has definitely taught me more about computer security through visual metaphors. For example the cookie scene. Neo(client) went to visit the Oracle(host) in her apartment(server). By entering into her domain she has complete control over his cookies and they can be poisoned or manipulated. Using his data from the server visit she fingerprints his browser and OS to later on craft malware(the red candy) used to infect and influence him. Essentially anyone who has visited the oracle or taken a gift from her could be part of her botnet. Hence why she is able to pass the red candy to Neo in the park. That entire complex may be her domain or she has infected and taken over the host of the apartment complex.

  • @aubreypwd
    @aubreypwd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    The cookie is the code that needs to make it to the source. It is no accident they used a cookie, as a cookie in browsers expires after some time. Hence why the Merovingian said her time was almost up. The Oracle's job is to find a carrier (the one), and to give them the code, and lead them to the source before time runs out.
    Machines are deterministic, cause and effect is all, they can both see why they there, and what will happen next. Humans, though, are not. We can't see beyond our own choices, and we like it that way. It's why the first Matrix failed. In the first Matrix we had no choice, all was perfectly decided for us in perfect harmony. But, without choice, we know something is up, and we wake up! The machines just want to keep us asleep.
    The only thing they can do to control us (iconified by the one) is to abuse our emotions, vis-à-vis love. The Oracle abuses every anomaly (the one's) with emotion to ensure they will make it to the source, this time around, she chose love.
    The cookie was just the code. The machines are perfecting the ability to give humans a choice while at the same time fully controlling them. Every time the one makes it to the source the algorithm is perfected.

    • @aubreypwd
      @aubreypwd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Think about it, if they could get Neo to choose Trinity over Zion (the logical choice), they could finally be rid of Zion and stop humans from waking up ever again!

    • @icecubes_for_the_boiling_frogs
      @icecubes_for_the_boiling_frogs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree entirely about the cookie being the actual code of the one and that it's a timed code. She offers the cookies to every unplugged human she meets, hence why she's in the kitchen. This means technically, every unplugged person could be the one. However, either the code turns out to be incompatible with the code of the person, or they fail on their journey in one way or another. It's also possible that the problem is that the resistance is like the Jedi in that they only target younger people and the Oracle knows they are too young and weak of mind to complete the grueling task of the one, so she gives them different roles for when someone actually old enough to complete the task is found and unplugged. He was tested constantly by other old programs to further ensure he would deliver a worthy code, possibly even modifying it as he completed tasks along the way as a sort of data collection and reconfiguration. It's even possible the cookies contain the code as it was last uploaded by the previous one. But the way neo destroyed Smith corrupted the code in a way the machines hadn't predicted, making it impossible for neo to upload the code of the one in the traditional way with the architect. He had to mend the code by reconnecting with the Smith program in order to fully upload his updated version of the code

    • @monad_tcp
      @monad_tcp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      warning: this is a massive tangential.
      IRL machines are not deterministic, its damn hard making them act like they are, but that's the biggest illusion we, the computing scientists have created. only single-core non-networked machines are actually deterministic.
      In a multi-core machine, not all is cause-effect, because there's minuscule aspects of the physics bleeding in, from the point of view of the software you actually have some effect without cause, because the cause is synchronicity in the real world (or the lack thereoff), time is actually relative. Of course there are mechanisms of control, aka, barriers and locks (yes, we call them locks, they're not physical locks, they're only electric signal acting as locks)
      To the other way, the universe is probably deterministic, so humans are deterministic, they just don't accept it, they pretend emotions are non-deterministic, when in fact, if you act on emotion instead of acting on reason you are 100% deterministic, only you don't understand it, because the illusion of the rational mind is rationalizing emotions, you lie to yourself. Free will is an illusion, an elaborated illusion created by biology so you complete you actual programming, as a human, you do have a code, its your DNA, and your programming is to make more children and propagate the species, everything is just to make this task, and humans kind of perfected it over millennia, as humans even got control of the climate on the planet (although that was by mistake, and humans pretend they don't have any control over it, so they don't have responsibility over the results, again, emotion over reason, of course that will lead the climate getting out of control and the fatal end of the civilization, but even them that's not the end of the species as this event probably happened before and will happen again, you only need 100k humans surviving for the next epoch, just to pass the code forward)
      This goes so deep in a human psyche that there's non-deterministic interpretations of the physics equations describing the experiments done on the universe, of course the copenhagem interpretation is wrong, the many-worlds is the correct one, there's multiple worlds intertwined, one affect the other on what looks like probabilities, but its all deterministic, it only looks no-deterministic because you only have partial data, just like human feelings look non-deterministic because they don't know their chemical state, the same way a multi-core program look non-deterministic, because I don't know the actual electrical state of the machine, if I knew every electrical signal, I would predict entirely how the machine works.
      So in a way, non-determinism doesn't exist, free-will is a lie. But in another way to completely predict anything you need complete data and that's impossible in a single universe because of quantum non-determinism, you have to have access to external data, you need an oracle that can see data.

    The Merovingian is not the Anti-Matrix; he is the exact opposite. He wants to perpetuate the status quo for as long as possible. How do we know this? He existed, persisted, from a previous iteration of The Matrix. In the end, he doesn't want anything more than to continue his existence. He wants to persist, to endure and to continue. Which sets up the situation between The Merovingian and Persephone. The emotionless continuity vs. a life of emotion and experience. And that's why The Merovingian opposes The Oracle. The Oracle wants change; The Merovingian is happy where he is.

      This is the correct answer. The Oracle played a dirty trick by using that cookie to rewrite the ending. The Oracle truly does want a different outcome. The end of the war and the Merovingian knows this. The thing that really bakes my noodle is, why does the Merovingian think he has any chance after the cookie was already eaten by Neo to stop what is coming? Killing the Oracle at that point is moot. The real question is, did he know his wife would turn on him for cheating? He looked very surprised when confronted with it so, no he did not know that his "desert" would backfire. This "backfire" is proof yet again that there is an anomaly no one is talking about here. God is involved and is using miracles to help Humanity end the war.

    I believe she merely used the cookie to boost his confidence. Not so much changing him, but taking any edge off the rational part of his mind that would talk him out of doing stupid or dangerous things. Which in turn made him more in tune with his abilities. The look on Morpheus' face when he sees Neo with the cookie shows that he's both been where Neo's been and seen others go through a similar reading regarding their own lives. In the case of Morpheus, he was told that he would find The One. Needless to say much like Neo he was given a cookie and that would explain why his belief was never shaken until he found out the Prophecy was a bullshit power move by the machines. As with Trinity who was told that she would fall in love with The One. She probably had a love code or something in that cookie that enhanced infatuation with him. When Neo started out, he didn't have any confidence in his abilities, nor did he even believe he's The One. Hence why he kept screwing up during training despite his adaptability to the programming. As for Cypher? While it can be argued that the food and drink has codes the Architect, The Agents and other subordinates, exiles and even undercover Redpills tampered with (Especially Narcotics since Neo's buyer recommended him Mescaline.), most of the coding seemed to be derived from the usual things. Mimicking taste, smell, sight and texture as well as slightly enhanced versions of the effects that food does to us in real life? Such as Turkey making one sleepy. So odds are it's just an ordinary steak program. On the other hand. If there were certain people in the Matrix of extreme interest they probably altered the code so that it'd make them more subservient to the machines. So Cypher could have been under the Machine's influence by eating that steak and drinking that wine and even smoking those cigars. However there is two holes in that theory. The first is that Cypher's actions in the beginning of the movie prior to meeting Smith. He already had Trinity traced and already expressed infatuations with her even if it was the form of jokes. And while it could be easy for Smith to manipulate his code and enhance those infatuations to get him to cooperate more out of envy, I don't see Smith doing that. Mainly because while he knows what love is, he fails to understand it as anything more than an illusion and ergo a waste of his time.

    Correct me if I'm wrong. So according to this, the food is what encouraged or forced Neo to love Trinity. So when the time came for Neo to choose one of the doors for either Freedom of Zion or Save Trinity, the Architect tricked Neo into choosing the 'Save Trinity' door so that the Matrix is rebooted later. It was an elaborate plan of Architect and the Oracle.
    Also, the Architect may have lied to Neo regarding the previous chosen ones when he said that they all chose the door to Zion's freedom but failed, eventually tricking Neo into choosing the 'save Trinity' door. Oracle will modify Neo's programming into following orders and the Architect will back that up by lying about the previous chosen ones failure and tricking Neo into rebooting the Matrix. In France in 1789, bread flour (eaten by the poor) was in short supply even though the actrual harvests had been bountiful that year. But cake flour (eaten by the rich) was plentiful and fairly low priced. Marie Antoinette was actually telling the minister who told her of the problem (her husband not being present) to allow the lower classes to buy and use the upper class's food. However the actual quote has been selectively edited and interpreted to vilify her. Much like how our current media edited out the President's utter condemnation of neo-nazis and white supremecists during his speech about the Charlottesville protests, leaving only his comment about "very fine people on both sides of the issue", to villify him.

    When Neo takes the candy from the Oracle, he never actually eats it. He just holds it in his hand. We never see him with it in his mouth, either. I think the cookie was probably a modification to his code to help encourage him to fight for Morpheous. The Oracle eludes to the idea that he's waiting on another life because that's how these things go. She had to encourage him to fight Agent Smith because she knew that he would ultimately die. I mean, she actually says one of them will die and tells him that the war is basically lost without Morpheous. So, with this new information of Neo not being the One and Morpheous needing to live, the cookie made Neo feel better about sacrificing his life to save Morpheous and the human race at the same time. That act alone caused the code of the One to become activated within him because now he was ready to do whatever it took to save humanity.

    But I'm not so sure what the objective of the Merovengian is. Why would he be the anti-Matrix? It seems to me that he needs to uphold the status quo. The cycle of resetting the Matrix works out fine for him, he knows the pattern and is able to handle himself in this necessary game. Or is this program eventually getting too gready and wants more power? hence his demand for the eyes of the Oracle.

      He is greedy ant thats why he is Exiled program in the first place. He wants his power back.

    hi the ME,
    I have questions that could be interresting for your next videos :
    01 : why Neo's passeport expire on 9/11/01 ?
    02 : why the Wachowskis choosed to put the movie "night of the lepus" on screen at the oracle's appartement during the spoon-boy scene ?
    03 : why Morpheus is doing the symbol "as above so below" as we can see in the first seconds of that video ?
    04 : why can we see "Kadosh", the two headed eagle, in the Oracles's kitchen behind Neo where it is written "nosce te ipsum" ?
    Thanks

    I’m glad you made a video about this. It has always been my belief that the cookie was the catalyst that caused Neo to fall in love with Trinity, followed, of course, by the Oracle’s suggestion that Trinity already had feelings for him.

    Thank you. I never thought about how The Merovingian giving that women code in food to modify her behaviour might have been an attempt to educate Neo about how he had been manipulated with the cookie from The Oracle before. Also, I never thought about the possibility of the steak having code to modify Cipher's behaviour before. It is great how this movie is so rich in little details that even after watching the original trilogy at least 50 times over the past 25 years I can still find out about stuff I have never noticed before.

    Cookies in real life are basically memories and a computers memory to a certain web page the fastest (I think) what if she fed him “memories” or basically all the info of the path and way the OLD ONE went through and the ONE is someone with all the memories or cookies of past ONES and paths and powers they obtained

    The cookie may also have been what infected smith when he assimilated neo in the final fight

    • @philproffitt8363
      @philproffitt8363 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Remember the oracle just sat and waited for Agent Smith to come and assimilate her. That was her opportunity to infect Smith directly...so she could fight from within while Neo attacked him at the end. I think that's why Smith said "that's not fair" before he was destroyed...he realised Neo and the Oracle had come together to defeat him. I think the cookie was manipulation for earlier 'becoming the One'...then the red candy to manipulate at the Architect meeting. What do you think Zen?

  • @PacesIII
    @PacesIII 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When Neo walked in to the Oracle's kitchen and she said he was not the one she was not lying. She controls who the one is and she decided to give him the cookie which made him The One. So he was not The One until he ate the cookie which was a choice. That choice was also an illusion because if someone gives you a cookie under general rules of being polite, you're just going to eat it.

  • @vasilirikardsson
    @vasilirikardsson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Accepting food from a person you never met before is a hard choice if you're in a tricky situation like Neo. . The oracle is giving Neo the same 50/50 pill like Morpheus.

    I really hope that whatever they're planning for the sequel, they wouldn't just depend on nostalgia rather than a good followup and cohesive storyline cuz the Matrix lore is just deep and crazy scary. There are so many things to explore.

    Quick question who are the "potentials" we see in the Oracle's office?

    • @morgankerr1628
      @morgankerr1628 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Worthless code. Consider : "Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the matrix." The "potentials" are all working toward answering the unbalanced equation. Even spoon kid. Spoon kid may have been close, but spook kid was not The One. Callous as it is, the "potentials" were wasted potential. The wrong answers.

    • @dan.d
      @dan.d 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were all there for one reason, because it is what Neo needed to see to get on the road to "believe". The thing that will really bake your noodle is, were the "potentials" still rendered after Neo left the room to save resources.
