- Spent FAR too long on this video...like weeks...
All the process is 'live' as it were - I thought the steam bending wouldn't fully work and actually intended to cut the shape out and then turn the shaft on the lathe for exciting viewing!

Bellatrix is one of my favorite characters in Harry Potter and I’ve always wondered how her wand would be made. Now I know. I always love how you insert bits of scenes into your videos. If you add a cup of household ammonia to the water it will bend much easer. Same process just add ... and let soak, NO HEAT. I am enjoying your videos. Thank you.

If it wasn't because I saw the whole process and "knew" the specific features of the handmade wand, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart honestly, amazing job!
Most of the complex things in life get easier with each step you take towards the end. This is an example of something that get increasingly difficult due to the precision and lost work, should you make a mistake. Your talent is incredible. The balance between being able to manage the mental pressure and the product you are working on must be intense. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for making such a daunty task look so easy!

You are a genius! I've had my wooden Elder wand (from you) for two years now and I still love it! This is definitely one of my favourite wands and the videos are more satisfying than ever to watch. I suppose you can even make the mount/stand if you haven't done that already. Absolutely brilliant! Would definitely recommend if anyone is considering buying one!

Got in to making wands a couple months ago. Absolutely love your videos! Especially this one since I'm trying to make a Bellatrix wand now. I don't have a lathe but I was able to get several different types of powered sanders, wood carving tools and a scroll saw from my Dad's shop. On top of my dremel and wood burning kit, it's been a blast learning it. Never would have thought about bending the wood to achieve the shape instead of just trying to cut it into shape. Also love the attention to detail and all the movie clips. Keep up the amazing work!

My favourite character is Bellatrix Lestrange and her wand is so unique then all of the other characters.
Third video in and I cannot remember the last time a turning video held my attention, so steadfast. I think the repairs are a big part of why your honest process has me ready to watch the rest. I searched wands as I'm working on Hermione's for a friend's granddaughter for Christmas. Looking forward to when you get to hers. I've made McGonagall's for my daughter. Keep up your project. This is honestly one of your best! I didn't think it would turn out that good in the beginning due to the bending but it came it brilliantly accurate and wood grain detailing on the handle gave it so much character 😍😍

I guess I cheated when I made my Bellatrix wand. I started with a curved branch and just carved away all the non necessary stuff. The lady who bought it recognized my intention to recreate this wand and was reasonably impressed. Yours is definitely better.

@garricksapprentice You was also chiseling a knot in this video. That's not easy with any wood. Black Walnut is almost made for hand tools.

@@DJ_Mystic I've just been lent Molly's, the replica looks just like oak/ash so probably that, oak is a nice honest and hearty wood!

@@garricksapprentice But you could maybe bleach the wood as well. I ask because I encountered this during my apprenticeship as a carpenter. Or do you think it‘s too dangerous? 😁
@@gregorbauer3075 I've never really tried, but why not just use the white sap wood of yew?
@@garricksapprentice I was thinking more of bleaching - i.e. using hydrogen peroxide under the safety measures such as a breathing mask and thick rubber gloves.
A word of warning: the smell is comparable to that of a litter box. But using the splint is also possible.😁

To think all olivander wands start out very plain and as the wizard or witch uses them they change in such unique ways. Whether there is a modification spell or a in world woodworking class, kinda never satisfactorily explored imho.
How about you transform this clock into a Harry Potter style using all the leftover wood?

This walnut actually came from a friend who's tree they planted when they moved house blew down! I've got a good friend who sources a lot of elder for me...

Just curious. When your recreating the lines on the plastic wand to the wooden wand do you ever get scratch marks in the plastic confused with intentional lines to imitate wood?

Depends on which wands I can source! Molly and Arthur looks nice and quick to make!...
Ok I was just giving suggestions off the top of my head. I recently watched order of the Phoenix and half blood prince.
Out of those 3 I’d say Lupin’s is the easiest and Slughorn’s is the hardest, Chang’s is somewhere in between
