Speaking as a boater/fisherman. I also drove trucks most of my life. Under federal law truck drivers are not to carry firearms. That being said. I rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.🤔💪🇺🇸

I went sailing with a group of off duty DEA agents. We anchored on a deserted small island/ sand bar in the Gulf of Mexico. We started a fire and cooked the just caught fish. Out of nowhere a man showed up walked into our to our camp. We talked for a while and offered him a beer. He drank it and left. All the agents got out their Glock .40 calibers and check the chambers and magazines. I asked what’s going on. The agents said that everything that man said was a lie and we need to have one person awake on shifts. Nothing happened that night but to be prepared is to be properly armed.

I would say it safer to stay close to home but nowadays that would be a misstatement. Crime is everywhere, even more dangerous out in the open sea or ocean on a million dollar yacht … even though they probably didn’t have anything to be robbed of, it just the fact that they were taken by force that makes it all the worse.
My wife and I spend 4 years sailing all through the Caribbean, Bahamas all the way to Panama. We have over 18,000 miles sailed. We spent many months anchored in the same spot as they were in Grenada. First of all these were not pirates but rather escaped prisoners. Secondly at no time in our travels did we have a concern for our safety except when we sailed back to S Florida. Grenada is one of the safest islands you can go to. NEVER an issue. Any crime was petty theft and that was rare. This is a massive tragedy but in no way is this an indication that going there is unsafe. Finally, I am the most pro second amendment guy you will ever meet but the ignorance involved in the process of carrying a gun on board is simply amazing. Some countries search your boat upon entering their country during checking. If you declare a gun they will hold it for you at customs. Don’t declare it and you will be a cell mate with the 3 guys they did this for the next 20;years. Your call.
