It's always the choke pull-off - at least that's what Click and Clack would say... Have you thought about a manual choke? You'd be old school for sure. Can't get enough of that Mini Truck!
Check for vacuum leaks to the choke ,also check the coolant hoses going to the choke . I am really digging the vids MotoCheez. My ride, I just changed the oil as the motor was really noisy and the oil was more than dirty, it was ridiculous, it smelled like it had gas in it, I did an oil change after matching up a filter code. I poured in some 10w-30 Valvoline to run her through her paces, motor sounds good, still has the tick so I am fittin to adjust that valve-train as soon as I dig up some info on clearances, I imagine she needs a good adjustment. As my ride is somewhat limited in it's farm use, no locking diff and a limited slip rear, my customization flavor is ever so leaning more and more towards a "Jaw Shattering" street application, (No matter How SICK the modification may be).... . I have searched high and low and haven't really found much as far as modified street touring mini-trucks.... Any ideas folks? I know they are doing it on the streets of Japan though, the mini-truck is Japan's youth oriented hot-rod. My artistic flavor is affording me with visions of conversions which would vastly alter the appearance of the average mini-truck. I am more interested in finding a rebuild kit for my 1995 KIA motor as well as a small turbo kit. I have a few really sick ideas I want to put together and this cheap ticking, smoking KIA makes a great candidate for a wild Street touring Mini -Truck that can turn heads on the street yet still handle things round the farm-front. I got some forward thinking ideas recently when I saw video of a newer Suzuki turbo mini-truck , it did a 0-100 and stable like it was on rails.... It wasn't super fast but it was mighty quick with the four speed it had.... I know all these parts are in Japan and readily available but I can't currently locate a contact point as of yet... ...I never give up...... Cheers.
Thanks for the video . I have a 1992 Honda do you think it would be possible to pull the oil pan off , pull the pistons install rings and put back together. I bought one that was sitting 3 years or so and I can’t get compression back . The cylinders read 15, 30 40 psi.
I don't think you can pull the Piston out through the oil pan they'd have to be disconnected from the crank and pushed out through the head side. I would think a low compression like that would probably be because the valves aren't seating correctly did you try shooting oil and each cylinder and then trying again
@@MotoCheez yes sir I did. I am going to try to adjust valves and if all else fails pull the head. I think that is really low compression to the point it probably wouldn’t have ran after 80 or 90 psi . Maybe it’s rusted up. Idk but thanks for answering my questions.

I too, have been wondering why she's guzzling fuel so much. A SeaFoam treatment wouldn't hurt her either. And, the next morning, will smoke like hell some more while you wonder what the hell you just did to your beloved. Then, the smoke will clear and she'll smooth out and purr nicely. A third of a can of it in the crankcase a day before an oil change will clean things up too. Great stuff, works better than Sta-Bil as a fuel conditioner/stabilizer too.

There is a water line that runs through a thermostat on mine that is just for the choke regulation. I added a nickel sized spacer to my choke while fully extended limiting it as much as possible. Your plugs looked a lot cleaner than mine were (are). You could always wear a headlamp...oh.
Man Im having a time getting a DD51T to start. It was one those projects that 'It ran just fine last October' This spring wouldnt even pop or nothing on starting. Have spark, new rotor, cap and plug wires. Set the valve lash. Found a couple vacuume lines off and reinatalled them. It almost wants to start now, yet not

Should I put some anti seize on my new plugs when I do a tune up this weekend?

The Ts are $12.99 and fobs are $9.99. They're linked in motocheez.com in "merchandise" section. Hmm, a good motor swap is probably the Subaru motor because it's flat. Only issue I can see is gearing too low with stock transmission unless you have a 5 speed.. larger tires raises the speed pretty good, looks like the turbos go right along too.
Mini-truck should have a permanent smile decal ( beep) that's right mini-truck let him know, lol 🚚. You should build mini- truck a roll- bar with crossing samurai swords across the back an give him a black paint job with red accents ninja mini-truck. Great 👍 videos.
I just noticed something, correct me if im wrong, engine on pick up is more to the rear end depending on the Van engine placment. I have van and my engine is beneth the seats and more to the front end. Or am i mistaking?
Yes because when you have boost it would typically retard the timing and I said it at a specific timing I think it's 20 before top dead center so you don't get the detonation under boost
at 8:54 the part you have your hand on controls the vacuum to pull the choke off check for leaks on the vacuum lines to it. i had issues of vacuum lines looking great until you pull them and look at the ends the inner portion of the hose can be cracked.

I need to swap #2 ignition leads on the distributor.
What's the altitude in your area? We're up around 5,000ft and I've definitely got a fueling problem on cold start. Not many high altitude jetting kits for the Sambar. There is a water line that runs through a thermostat on mine that is just for the choke regulation. I added a nickel sized spacer to my choke while fully extended limiting it as much as possible.
Your plugs looked a lot cleaner than mine were (are).
You could always wear a headlamp...oh.
I'm only at 600ft I'm thinking about just hooking up a cable choke. Mine always started great in the cold.. headlamp a good idea! I have a few LED
Great job moto Cheez got it all fixed up nice
TY
Man Im having a time getting a DD51T to start.
It was one those projects that 'It ran just fine last October'
This spring wouldnt even pop or nothing on starting.
Have spark, new rotor, cap and plug wires.
Set the valve lash.
Found a couple vacuume lines off and reinatalled them.
It almost wants to start now, yet not
Hmm. Try starting fluid? If works it's fuel. If not may be electrical
Never seen anyone put anti seize on plugs. Is that common practice? I have an 02 quad cab dodge dakota that has rust cancer. Im replacing the bed and body panels, the frame is ok but it has surface rust, same as alot of bolts and pieces of the engine. Should I put some anti seize on my new plugs when I do a tune up this weekend?
I do, it just makes life easier for the next time. I know Ford had a huge issue with plugs breaking off in the 5.4 heads, big job if that happens.. I even use on lug nuts sometimes, it's just messy!!
@@MotoCheez cool, thanks. My exhaust manifold has a big hole in it so i'm going to replace it this weekend. Im going to keep soaking it with pb blaster for a full day before I attempt to remove the bolts. I know my way around tools and can figure stuff out but I am not a very experienced mechanic. Ive never been so nervous to work on something lol
Ugh. I hate exhaust work... Rusty bolts
Thanks for another great video. I can't wait for mine to get here from Japan. Tire question: Are those 23x8x12 tires on stock 4" rims? And how wide is the track with them? My trailer is 5'x10' but 57" inside the rails.
Those were 24/8-12, they'll still fit trailer
@@MotoCheez thanks! no problem with 8" wide tires on skinny wheels?
Nope, I have a 2" lift too, but 23s would probably fit stock. The 24s did hit the bottom of door slightly better(a few videos back) with 7" mag wheels though, go figure
Great Job Motocheez, love mini...
TY 😁
will the turbo installation will be a pain to install with this tight work space ,but i don't care you said you will turbo it mate
Lol, said maybe! Wish the electric turbos worked as they claimed..

you can do it

@@MotoCheez get one drop on ya and the next thing you know youre looking like the tin man
I know! When I went back to adjust valves again, I even wiped the areas and STILL looked like the tinman. Hahah
Is that a honda interceptor gas tank hanging? I had a 86 500 interceptor and it looks like the same.
It is, he has one in the garage he's working on. Good eye 😁

She sure does!🔥
Keep on getting on minitrucks backside... Maybe a reach around is in order. Great vid.

No stickers yet, just key tags... I have the template, I should look into them.
@@MotoCheez What's the cost for an Adult Small Black T-Shirt? As I am a "scrawny" 152lb 5'9" 45yo... Sadly, I typically have to shop in the Kids Section for Kids XL T-Shirts... :-(
And, what are the Key Fobs going for, if they are for sale?...
You definitely have my respect, given that you Talk to your Mini, and your Definitely Mechanicaly Inclined, as compared to most of these Kei Truck owners out here!
Are you "possibly" interested in information about how to perform a "CORRECT" Engine Swap in MINI and keep the 2WD/4WD abilities? :-O
I'm currently looking into an engine swap for my (getting soon ~4 to 16 months out...) on a JDM1994 Suzuki Carry that will be licensed for Road Use, but the HP is pathetic...
So I have reached out to about 8 Utuber's for their recommendations for a practical engine swap, with "ACTUAL use as a Daily Driver" as a priority...
Once I hear from these potential individuals. I will forward their info, AFTER I check it out for functionality AND cost!

@@MotoCheez YOU way 2 FUNNY!
Number 6 and I'm getting a minitruck I'll be getting it Tomorrow for my birthday
Sweet!! Happy birthday!
MotoCheez I can't wait for my own minitruck
👍👍
Speed happy birthday amd have fun with your mini truck
Mini-truck should have a permanent smile decal ( beep) that's right mini-truck let him know, lol 🚚. You should build mini- truck a roll- bar with crossing samurai swords across the back an give him a black paint job with red accents ninja mini-truck. Great 👍 videos.

Thanks. Yes that’s my son
I just noticed something, correct me if im wrong, engine on pick up is more to the rear end depending on the Van engine placment.
I have van and my engine is beneth the seats and more to the front end. Or am i mistaking?
I thought they were same from what I saw. Under the seat

Yeah, can't wait to see how it turns out.
Didn't know the mini truck was a mid-engine sports car at heart! ^_^
😁😁👍
When you're driving the mini truck down the road, you should splice a B-17 Flying Fortress into the video. That's what the tire noise reminds me of.
😄😄👍 good idea
What's it smell like when rich? ....... GAS?????????? saw you smell the spark plug
Yeah you can smell the gas on it.
that truck WAS eyeing mini truck in the parking lot ,she is such a sweet ride
He really was staring at her when I left the store!
I'm glad you didn't leave the valves clacking. Next you could convert it to electric.
Maybe someday, I have a mountain I own behind me and hauling wood etc, I'm not sure electric would be a good fit for my situation.
what vacuum line are you pulling for timing ?
Yes because when you have boost it would typically retard the timing and I said it at a specific timing I think it's 20 before top dead center so you don't get the detonation under boost
Once you get that choke sorted, I reckon you'll be looking at about 35+mpg with those tyres.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🔥🔥😎
at 8:54 the part you have your hand on controls the vacuum to pull the choke off check for leaks on the vacuum lines to it. i had issues of vacuum lines looking great until you pull them and look at the ends the inner portion of the hose can be cracked.
I'll check thanks. But the plunger doesn't move with heat either. The pulloff is working. I don't know about the cold air diverter in air can...
@@MotoCheez you have any manuals? I am looking through my downloads folder to see what i have left of hijet stuff. most of it is for the 100 series

Dose your mini have the hemi motor 12 valve ? 660 cc
The Suzuki does
... Why does mini have Multipoint plugs????
They're stock I assume...
Yeah, that's odd. Considering the car is clean, no Japanese "mods" on it, it's even weirder.
@@MotoCheez FIRST time I've seen multi tipped plugs, I BET they were designed especially for those engines to function correctly, IF you could find out WHY, they that may be a deciding factor when replacing them.
👍🏻👍🏻
Dual prong plugs are common on Toyota motors. I think he mentioned in an earlier video that the truck uses a lot of toyota parts.
Where'd you get that tent garage? Need one to work on the 91 Carry (winter coming)

I have the same truck can you help me adjust the valves. I am having a hard time.
Make sure You're on compression stroke TDC the cylinder you're checking. If valves are tight you probably on wrong stroke and need to go 1 more revolution
Thats probably where your problems starting it back up after she's been running for awhile
Yeah, floods itself!
Just like any new toy find all the things that need to be fixed before you are truely happy with it.
Hey Mini truck beep beep 😁
Yeah, little by little. Beep!
How would one delete the vacuum lines? I installed a new carb because they dont make these ones anymore now its on and im not sure what to do with the spaghetti
Ha. That's what's holding me up on the supercharger install. Needs vacuum for the 4x4 and locker.
You have to trace each hose and label if it's port or constant vacuum
Ive got it running but the idles goin bananas so i gasket gooped the carb on just waiting for it to dry before i try again
Shes ALIVE! It wont idle but it reving properly and totally drivable ill have to make a video about it its pretty messy under the hatch
Nice!
I want a mini truck now.

THANKS big time for the "States legal" link, I had seen one of these in Florida for sale at a business and it had a official Florida tag so I assumed it was good ANYWHERE, but the link states for Florida ONLY on roads 35 mph or less thus the mini would be USELESS for me, your link saved me $$$ & headache because I wouldn't have any use other than on the ANY road.
I just had another guy commenting on a few others, that chart is for the newer minis. The 25 year and older gets registered as classics and are legal on main roads... I don't know, I'm still new 😁😁
I love mini truck horn lol

Is it possible to adjust this carb using vaccum gauge ?
im having party with adjusting carb on my hijet.

The mixture, yes. Like other carbs get the highest vacuum.
@@MotoCheez never done that,i hear someone mentioned manifold vaccume and ported vaccume, manifold is before carb and ported is from carb if i get it correctlly?
@@Alennovak666 yes. Manifold vacuum. Make sure idle is close to correct rpm also
