Former U.S. secretary of state and national security adviser Henry Kissinger has died at the age of 100. He leaves behind a legacy of American statecraft that brought war, covert intervention and mass atrocities to Southeast Asia, South Asia and South America. "Few people have had a hand in so much death and destruction," says our guest, human rights attorney and war crimes prosecutor Reed Brody. By some accounts, Kissinger was responsible for the deaths of at least 3 million people. We focus today on Kissinger's actions in Cambodia, Bangladesh (previously East Pakistan) and East Timor, where, Brody argues, Kissinger ordered and oversaw U.S. actions that would make him "liable for war crimes."

It doesn't help the victims of war crimes if papers pile up on an investigator's desk.
Reasons why there is no political solution...
I was a boy in the 60's...even then whenever I saw him on TV...all I could think of was..."evil".
He should've been charged, a long with Obama For syria and yemen a long with George W. Bush for Iraq and Afghanistan. Ann joe biden, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and Reagan, Truman And jimmy carter and j f k for the gulf of tonkin lie🎉
It's funny how DN! or it's viewers failed to give a crap about Putin's genocidal slaughter of Ukrainian women and children but not they expect us to believe that they care about this.
Yes you're right it does not help the victims but don't you agree that by telling the truth it helps to prevent the present individuals to stop their crimes like present situation in Gaza !!!!!
World leaders are getting away with mass murder😭😭😭
Don't worry, in the end, nobody gets away with anything.
GOD'S JUDGEMENT

Not only Kissinger is liable of war crimes, also the country enabled him to commit the crimes is liable and some day they pay the price !!
So you want the American people to pay for Kissinger's crimes, when Kissinger's people have been brainwashing the American public for 100 years? I'd take my grievances to the very top..
What about Bush and Iraq?
Trouble with that thinking is that most of the monsters will already be dead. The people alive now - the peasants that make up 99% of any given population probably - had NOTHING to do with the war crimes. It's nice to dream that "some day they pay the price !! " But it won't affect those who committed the crimes.
There were no tears shed, for Henry Kissinger
How many people died in libya with Hillary’s blessing ? Exactly.

@@moral19D ya got no factual premise ....
Decades back, in late 1972, South Vietnam and the United States were winning the Vietnam War decisively by every conceivable measure. That was the view of our enemy, the North Vietnamese government officials. Victory was apparent when President Nixon ordered the U.S. Air Force to bomb industrial and military targets in Hanoi, North Viet Nam's capital city, and in Haiphong, its major port city, and we would stop the bombing if the North Vietnamese would attend the Paris Peace Talks that they had left earlier. The North Vietnamese did go back to the Paris Peace talks, and we did stop the bombing as promised.
On January the 23rd, 1973, President Nixon gave a speech to the nation on primetime television announcing that the Paris Peace Accords had been initialed by the United States, South Vietnam, North Vietnam, the Viet Cong, and the Accords would be signed on the 27th. What the United States and South Vietnam received in those accords was victory. At the White House, it was called "VV Day," "Victory in Vietnam Day."
The U.S. backed up that victory with a simple pledge within the Paris Peace Accords saying: should the South require any military hardware to defend itself against any North Vietnam aggression we would provide replacement aid to the South on a piece-by-piece, one-to-one replacement, meaning a bullet for a bullet; a helicopter for a helicopter, for all things lost -- replacement. The advance of communist tyranny had been halted by those accords.
Then it all came apart. And It happened this way: In August of the following year, 1974, President Nixon resigned his office as a result of what became known as "Watergate." Three months after his resignation came the November congressional elections and within them the DEMOCRATS won a landslide victory for the new Congress and many of the members used their new majority to de-fund the military aid the U.S. had promised, piece for piece, breaking the commitment that we made to the South Vietnamese in Paris to provide whatever military hardware the South Vietnamese needed in case of aggression from the North. Put simply and accurately, a majority of DEMOCRATS of the 94th Congress did not keep the word of the United States. ( ROBERT KKK BYRD, BIDEN, TED CHAPPAQUIDDICK KENNEDY, GARY donna rice HART, GEROGE MCGOVERN, HUBERT HUMPHREY, DAN DOPE INYOUE )
On April the 10th of 1975, President Gerald Ford appealed directly to those members of the congress in an evening Joint Session, televised to the nation. In that speech he literally begged the Congress to keep the word of the United States. But as President Ford delivered his speech, many of the members of the Congress walked out of the chamber. Many of them had an investment in America's failure in Vietnam. They had participated in demonstrations against the war for many years. They wouldn't give the aid.

Power not only corrupts but makes monsters out of humans !
Christopher Hitchens book ”The Trial on Henry Kissinger”, where he lists and advocates that Kissinger for war chrimes and crimes against humanity. This led to Kissinger could not travel to several countries as he was under threat of prosicution. In Hitchens last interviews one thing he regreted was that he would not live to see Kissinger stand trial for his crimes.
Hitch denounced Kissinger many years ago, in contrast to those who now do so after he is dead. 😊
Yeah, .good book. In particular, Nixon and Kissinger were arguably complicit in the Pinochet regime of Chile, one of the most infamous Latin American military juntas. Hitchens makes it clear that Kissinger, the White House and the CIA were actively helping and securing the overthrow of president Allende of Chile, a guy with complete democratic credentials and a democratic socialist rather than some violent communist (of course Nixon wouldn't get that distinction anyway). The US was actively assisting the coup makers both before and after the coup, and during the fateful day of September 11, 1973 itself a US navy flotilla was parked on the ocean just off sight from Santiago de Chile, to be able to intervene if there was any hassle for the Chilean generals. As many suspected already at the time, Pinochet was mostly a U.S. proxy and the White House is morally co-responsible for the disasters and tyranny that engulfed Chile.
Same thing goes with Indonesia where they backed Suharto to coup de etat Sukarno as Sukarno knew all their tricks and was against them.
After Suharto became the President, straight away they handed Suharto a list of 500 names to be caught and tortured and eliminate them mostly those inclined to Islam.
Extreme right wing historian Niall Ferguson considers him a hero. That says it all.
I still miss Hitchens so much.
All of these double standards and lack of transparency, there is no universal moral code for humanity 😢
There is a written very moral code for human/nation behavior specified in the founding documents of the UN. But you are right, they need to be transparently, consistently and universally implemented.
(The 10 commandments and Golden Rule are pretty good, too. But, it's on the individual to CHOOSE to obey. Or as Islam teaches, to Surrender to the will of God.)
No kidding? For real? You mean to tell me... not everyone thinks and feels as I do? I was so confused when a brown person told me that climate change was a scam to turn the global south into a "sacrifice zone". Brown people are supposed to be on Our Side! Because We Care! And Know What Is Best!
There is a universal moral code for humanity, written into our genetic code by God, the creator. Most people choose to ignore this however and choose instead to indulge in their flesh and invoke other gods that satisfy their temporary wants. Read the Bible, it contains instruction on every aspect of life you could want. God bless you.
@@margaretgoodheart4167 Following any religious text just means you are following the dictates of ignorant ancient men with backwards thinking, and not learning critical thinking skills or understanding modern morality which is far superior to those of ancient times.
The moral code is winning is good, losing is bad.
Those of us who know the cruel deeds of Henry Kissinger have a moral obligation to criticize and defame him after his death. That’s *especially* true when most of the media and elite have little critical to say about the man and while they celebrate him.
Too bad you didn't have the courage to say these things while he was alive and able to defend himself. Just shows appalling cowardice to speak ill of the dead after you had all these years to publicly address these allegations while he was alive! Guess there's always those like yourself that are happy to remain anklebiters ready to criticize other peoples actions while you passively take no actions of your own, except defaming others.😁
Go ahead. You will sound like a limp wrist. Way to be tough after a giant dies. F**
Exactly what cruel deeds did he do? He definitely didn't order any bombings, he had no authority to do that. Did he suggest a strategy? Absolutely... and that was his job. The President was the decision maker with respect to approving strategies. The military orders bombings, based on strategies approved by the SECDEF or President.
These facts matter... and it's sad to see the ill-informed comments here.
kinda being an annoying person but btw defaming refers to spreading a false allegation, i dont think thats what u meant bc with kissinger we have more than enough material to work with that is demonstrably true.
to the reply above, where is this person saying that no one should’ve spoken ill of kissinger while he was alive as well? plenty of people criticized him then also. they are just saying that as his legacy is discussed more since he’s died, we have an obligation to counter any narrative that this wasn’t a completely despicable person, because simply looking at the facts shows that he was.

Which means the US, even the elite, will no longer count among the developed nations and make the money it can still make from witchcraft only, the time it will take for it to fall into Haitian-like poverty and insignificance. The stance that Western nations have weaponized human rights advocacy in their dealings with Russia deserves a nuanced discussion. It is argued that rather than cooperating with Russia and other more conservative nations in addressing human rights issues, Western approaches often take a confrontational stance. This approach can be seen in the encouragement of exiles from these countries to actively work against their governments, sometimes to the extent of suggesting the overthrow of their leaders.
A potentially more constructive approach could involve fostering a dialogue with these exiles, understanding their perspectives, and using their experiences as building blocks for bridging cultural and ideological divides. Such a strategy would prioritize understanding and cooperation over direct confrontation. By supporting these individuals in a way that respects the complexities of their cultural and national backgrounds, a more effective and empathetic approach to human rights advocacy might be achieved.

Oh the crimes committed and the number of deaths caused by and sanctioned by the U.S. All needs to be taught in schools so that we do not repeat the sins of the past.
Sadly, that will never happen.
In the long list of Henry's war crimes let me add the military coup he orginised in Greece in 1967. Then Colonels majority started acting in a somewhat nationalist manner.
Henry had them overthrown in 1973 by one of them who he then instructed to the non defence of the Republic of Cyprus by Greece while simultaneously gave the green light to the Turks for invasion .
This illegal invasion resulted in the also illegal occupation of 40% of Cyprus island and war crimes commited.
Despite three condemning UN resolutions the situation remains unchanged to this day while even more crimes have been commited.
Cyprus and Greece is one nation in two countries and both members of the EU, yet the silence about this invasion and occupation is deafening .
At the same time Greece's western allies are rallying in support of Ukraine.
I guess they are preserving Henry's legacy!
The US prosecuted the war exactly the same way in Cambodia and Laos as it did in Vietnam itself. I don't understand why it's only considered war crimes in Laos and Cambodia, but I guess as long as you're "officially at war" then the indiscriminate bombing of mostly civilians and the most heinous war crimes you can possibly imagine that were inflicted on the Vietnamese people themselves is never even mentioned. The entire Vietnam war in its entirety was one big war crime/genocide. Also, unless I'm mistaken, after the Khmer Rouge were removed from power by the Vietnamese, the United States and United Nations not only did not lift a finger to try to hold any Khmer Rouge accountable, they in fact chose to continue to recognize the Khmer Rouge as Cambodia's legitimate government, a fact that I think tells anyone all they need to know about the US, UK, UN, etc.
The Black Sabbath War Pigs was written just for Guy like Him.
Great song
An evil is gone
My late father told me to beware of this Man. Im glad i listened and understood what he meant.
he was a SMARTONE MY CONDONANCES
Walk a mile in his shoes. He hated war but knew we had no choice. You realize the USA could be at war every single day? But I know I can never get through to you. I thought the same as you did but that was just me who decided to grow as a person. Sorry you feel so threatened.
@@BartvandenBos thanks bro..
@@trentknight8661 Bud, I spent some time in the army. It reaffirmed all the questions about war and how my old man was right. The trick was he made everyone believe he was against war. That my friend is a costly lesson..
@@RommelPaner-vm1lz maybe so. But I know war. I don't think you do. Have a great day bud.
My buddy Banseng Ho and I went to the Lincoln Memorial on 4th of July where Rev Billy Graham was giving a speech. There were 10,000 angry protesters against Kissinger's Cambodian War. RBG gave a rousing 'America's Destiny' heart of darkness (1970) then shoved his fist up to an angry sky, white hair tousling, with "BOMBTHEGOOKSFORJESUS!"
I was 30 feet from him. He dove into a White stretch limo and sped away, as the sound of helicopters approached, budda-budda-budda-budda. The crowd was now rhythmically chanting Hell No We Won't Go, around the Reflecting Pool, like that scene in Forrest Gump.
Then a squadron of Huey helicopters flew low overhead, as Capitol police on horseback took up positions. Hueys dropped 100s of small American flags on diaper-white parachutes. The crowd started to howl at the police cordon.
Hueys returned, dropping tear gas canisters on the crowd, as Capitol police beat people under the flying hooves with their truncheons. Blood everywhere. The stampeding crowd flipped some police cars and set them on fire. As the hot July sun beat down, the DC Mall was smoke and fire and inert bodies, like a war zone.
Nothing in the DC news afterward. Just another day of writing more meaningless environmental policy, that would one day be used for mandatory energy austerity. and compulsory carbon tithe lockdowns, while Kissinger kept busy loading more fossil-fuel napalm for Perpetual War.

You have quite an imagination....😅
@@brianjones7660 You've clearly obviously had quite a sheltered life. 1/3rd of that life you slept, 1/3rd of your life you ate and...you know,, and then 1/3rd of your working life, you *are a slave to WADC/NOVA.*
But you know nothing about it! How is that possible? Public schools? Sunday schools? Hentai and GTA?
Since the Dancing Isreali Coup of 11SEP, their GWoT has completely bankrupted USA. We're paying 1/3rd taxes to a military that no longer serves US, 1/3rd of our taxes for Government Welfare to legions of aliens pouring in, and 1/3rd of our taxes to the private Fed Reserve ((Banks of London)) üsüry on the Deficit in $Ts that WADC/NOVA disappears every year.

Blinken seems to be carrying on with Kissinger's legacy in Gaza.
He thought he won't ever face justice.

Very good man is Reed Brody , extremely candid and fare in telling it like it is.
Have you noticed evil people live longer than the rest of us.
How can it be a war crime when you move vulnerable Russian speaking children from an area populated by ethnic russians,at the behest of the parents of the children?
Forgot about Chile in the '70's.
The doublespeak and double-standards of Democracy Now are incredible.
He now can “rest” in HELL!!
He is China ccp's best friend. He went to China over 100 trips. How many chinese organs in his 100 year old body??
Cheney too with that illegal heart transplant he got
plz elaborate, throw more light on this dark subject
Now can he prosecute Netanyahu?
HOW ABOUT HAMAS?
Write a complaint against Netanyahu and Biden, Blinken and Austin, at the ICC, for perpetrating the genocide of Palestinian people.
Quilty or not, the thing is such criminal actions are still going on now even as you are questioning Kissinger's! And what are we doing about them?
How shame to carry out so much blood on one's hand.
WOE FOR HIM😞
WHAT HE IS FACING IN HIS LIFE NOW IN ETERNITY IF HE DIDN'T REPENT BEFORE HE LEFT HERE🔥
Great timing to talk about this!! Day after death……..seriously???😂laughable.
Hitchens talked about this years ago.
Probably one of the most evil people on the planet. Sad how both right and left knew how evil this man was and nothing could stop him except the expiration date 😠
I'm glad Reed mentioned the Palestinians. The Kissinger / Cambodia nightmare sounds so similar to the horrific happenings of today concerning Israel and Gaza also funded by the United States. So inhumanely sad.
I and my children live in the United States and it's already heartbreaking to feel and see how little so many of us IN the United States are in need because of the twisted logic and greed of others ...
to also know how our country massively funds and supports cruel dictators elsewhere makes no sense to me either .
The prosecutor is an incompetent man.
According to specialist Gabriel Defert on the basis of statistical data available from the Portuguese and Indonesian authorities, and from the Catholic Church, between December 1975 and December 1981, approximately 308,000 Timorese lost their lives; this constituted about 44% of the pre-invasion population. If that's not genocide, I don't know what is.
These dirty old oligarchs always outlive justice 🤬
These things looked far to me, but now it happens in Gaza I understand and feel how horrible they are.
As an outsider who has followed the USA political scene for years. American democracy is broken because of the extreme polarization that has occurred between Democrats and Republicans. Neither party has a foundational ideology that guides their platforms and governance. If these conditions existed during world war 2, you would have had one party saying Hitler was man-of-the-year and the other saying he was the most evil man in history. As a result, it would have taken the USA 4 years to decide which side to fight on and then it would have been a half ass effort. Seriously the USA, as leaders of the free world, need to fix this!
- China is the world's greatest threat - Nixon/Kissinger's establishing diplomatic and then open market conditions for China is a black stain on their personal history and that of the USA. How does the world's leading democracy turn a blind eye to the abuses of one of the world's worst tyrants (Mao) and a paedophile. The USA created modern China and needs to dismantle Xi's China by forcing USA investment and firms to relocate back to the USA and developing democracies.
- Border - the USA cannot maintain an open border and expect to remain a leading economy. There is a level of migration that will breakdown USA society and you're there now. Close the border, control legal immigration, block and expel migrants quickly.
- UnderClass - there is still a large class of uneducated people in the USA, especially in the south, who have an inherited culture that is the same as the 3rd world - teenage pregnancies, school is a waste of time, no ambition. Extreme measures must be taken to change this culture that make use of every organisation that can help bring culture, especially schools and churches. Provide funding t churches to preach the power of education for change, open churches at night and weekends for tutoring and safe areas, use schools for evening and weekend programs. Invest in Americans - they're not going anywhere. The culture itself needs to change. Why is the Gates foundation not trying to help Americans
- International - the USA has to be consistent in who it helps and who it does not. Stop aiding and abetting tyrants. Protect and invest in emerging democracies - especially in your own backyard of latin America. Help these countries build infrastructure and industrial economies. As they become wealthier the migrant problem will be solved and the USA will have strong allies that are champions of democracy. India - the world's largest democracy - has still not forgiven the USA for support their tyrannical enemy Pakistan and Pakistan had no problem biting the hand that fed them and is now buddies with China.
What does it take?
Many interesting ideas. Check out the American Solidarity Party.
The writers of the American Constitution appear to have understood a number of things:
1. The morale of "The People" does matter when it comes to maintaining productivity and a military.
2. The morale of the elite minority must be guarded from the selfishness and generally, relatively poor judgment of "The People".
3. The system must favor the elite, because the elite lead the nation to greater power through invention and implementation, raising the general standard of living.
4. But the elite tend to monarchy and autocracy, which by their nature crush the morale of "The People". See North Korea, Russia, etc.
5. Therefore, a large majority of "The People", that is, their opinion gathering the approval of 3/4 of the State legislatures, can alter the system. Ultimately they can check and balance the system peacefully if they organize to do so. The American system is designed to strike a balance between the morale of the elite and the morale of "The People" and veer away from civil war.
It has always been the underlying tension in human society. The elite face the dilemma of being in the numerical minority, and thus dependent on the cooperation and morale of the masses. While not the nation of the world's largest population, the American nation has more billionaires by far than any other nation. America, by design, is the friend of ambition and achievement. When coupled with a fair deal for the people, the result is the world's most powerful nation. Every day, thousands line up to join the project. I don't think that's all bad as long as they come to be ambitious Americans.
Since 1776, when it became independent, the U.S. has been engaged in wars 93% of the time, i.e. 230 years by now. Since 1991, when the Soviet Union collapsed, the U.S. has launched well over 200 military interventions overseas according to U.S. Congressional Research Service. During that same time period, Russia launched 5 & China 0 such interventions.
Furthermore, during its history as an independent country, the U.S. has assassinated dozens of political & military leaders & organized tens of coups against democratically elected political leaders / governemnts on foreign soil. In particular, between 1947 and 1991, the U.S. organized 64 such covert coups all over the world. This evidence alone is enough to prove that the U.S. is the biggest war criminal & threat to democracy & peace on earth via the actions of its political leaders and members of its government/administration.
P.S. Russia took Ukrainian children, many of whom were orphans, into safety from those areas in Eastern Ukraine inhabited by Russian speaking people that the Ukrainian military was constantly shelling on orders from its fascist government controlled by extreme nationalists. Charges against Putin are bogus & part of Western nations' propaganda to smear him & the vast majority of the wprld's population know this.
He died of old age without paying for his crimes, is this fair?
No. It is not fair. And because of Zionists like Henry Kissinger, terms like 'fairness' and 'justice' are just empty words. Those concepts only exist in writings of fiction, TV shows and movies. They do not exist in the real world.
Human Right attorney where were you over past 2 yers , durning covid ?
Compared to Netanyahu - Kinsinger's conduct amount to sainthood. No accountability, no consequences.
Ah... No.
This is gibberish. Kissinger was an advisor to the president and a diplomat, He had no command authority over any acts done by the US military or the military of any sovereign state. There is no evidence he committed any crime. The US military did nasty things before and after his time in office under the command of the president. The US conducted diplomacy with unsavory governments before and after he was in office.
Victoria Nuland and the US ambassador to Ukraine were recorded on a bugged phone call plotting the bloody coup that started the war in Ukraine in 2014. It has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths and it appears that the US goal is to create chaos on Russia's border to weaken Russia. The US was behid the "Arab Spring" which killed 500,000 people and destabilized the Middle East. Kissinger did not do anything different, except in his day, organizing coups was more of a CIA job. Unlike today's State Department, KIssenger actually did diplomacy and was aware of how dangerous nuclear weapons are and that we won't survive WW III.
Mao is probably the greatest mass murderer in history but It was good diplomacy to deal with him to draw him away from the Soviet Union during the Cold War. That did not make the US responsible for the millions of people Mao killed. Achieving detente with the Soviet Union did not make Kissinger responsible for the millions who died in gulags. To commit a crime, you have to break some law. There is no evidence that Kissinger did. Conducting diplomacy with nasty governments is not a crime. Meddling in the internal affairs of another UN member violates the UN charter but all great powers do that and all Secretaries of State do that.
don’t you get it by now? These communists and young Marxists marching all over the world are just blaming Israel and Kissinger. Anything that involves Jews. their antisemitism is showing. Meanwhile they’re calling Hamas freedom fighters.
In an oblique irony my country Australia, a US ally fought Indonesia in West Timor. It's SASR defeated the invaders and averted an all out war in which Israel had given US weapons to Indonesia vía the back door. The retribution was the bombing in Bali in which hundreds of my countrymen were murdered. It was Kissenger and the CIA that were responsible. US allies or foe?
Life is too short no matter how many years we live. All of us will be passing death paths, then we will be judged for our deeds in the hereafter. That is something some people don't think about when committing crimes against humanity
