      I believe other companies make shorter ones now but they would require a lot of force to get in and out of each gear. The shifter being long gives much better leverage

    Did u put any kind of poly or solid bushings on the transmission or engine? And if no how does it hold up with stock bushings? Any problems?

    • @excite8075
      @excite8075  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have condor solid motor mounts and poly trans mounts
      I have been told running it without them is super sketchy. Can cause damage to transmission without them

  • @returnfire1
    @returnfire1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you have upgraded trans bushings? Do you think it’s a bad idea to install this with stock bushings?

    • @excite8075
      @excite8075  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I have upgraded engine and trans mounts. I was told that you need both when running the solid mounted shifter. If the engine and trans move a lot while the shifter is solid mounted to the chassis you can damage the shift linkage in the transmission. Picture the trans rotating while the shifter stays in the same spot while you’re shifting. You may be able to get away with it but from everyone I’ve talked to they said it’s bad news bears if you don’t haha!

    Did you upgrade your transmission/engine mounts to poly or solid bushings prior to installing this shifter? Would it work properly with standard rubber engine/gearbox mounts?
    I'm looking at installing a similar shifter in my car but it's my daily so I'm not sure if I want to upgrade my drivetrain mounts because of the NVH increase. I drive a 2005 130i if that changes anything

    • @excite8075

      I have solid engine mounts and poly trans mount. Wouldn’t do it with oem

      @@excite8075 how would you rate the nvh on your str8 6 w/ solid engine/poly gearbox mounts? I'm currently looking at a set of all around poly mounts rn

    • @excite8075
      @excite8075  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KR4K40
      Honestly I’m not a big fan of solid mounts on daily’s. I have a lot of solid bushings on my e36, so the nvh is significant, but it’s primarily a track/weekend car. You might be able to get away with both poly mounts and it being tolerable.
      That being said it’s subjective and you might not mind the vibration. The bmw inline 6 is pretty smooth and doesn’t vibrate the chassis too badly. My S13 had solid mounts and I couldn’t stand how much the chassis shook street driving it.

  • @DannySpellz
    @DannySpellz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    so you didn't have to do any shifter boot mods to make the thicker shifter fit? I feel like the chassis mount shifter wouldn't fit the stock boot

    • @excite8075
      @excite8075  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm I may have cut one or two stitches on it to make it fit but I don’t fully remember. Pretty sure I just pushed it on and I was tight but worked

    Yo I'm about to install similar shifter in mine, but you said you wouldnt do it without solid engine/gearbox mounts. Can I still mount it even though I have stock? Looking at upgrading them soon but do I have to wait?

    • @excite8075

Overall was a great product. Very Racecar feel. Great bang for buck (at the time, they've gone up in price)
