You can switch between batteries manually: start in moonlight mode (single click from off), rapid triple click; a) from Lipo battery to AAA battery, if successful, the Green indicator will come on for 3 seconds, oppositely, the Blue indicator will flash 2 seconds; b) from AAA battery to Lipo battery, if successful, the Blue indicator will come on for 3 seconds, oppositely, the Green indicator will flash 2 seconds.

You can leave the AAA battery in the flashlight, once lithium battery drains it will automatically switch over to AAA power. Of course you can switch manually as well.
I bought this light on Prime Day and been EDC-ing it along with Streamlight 88061 ProTac 1L-1AA and it’s been working for me.

Nice review! It's got a lot of features for an under $50 EDC light. But my Olight Baton 3 is still my personal favorite EDC light. Super compact, super bright, very versatile, very good looking, very well made and not crazy expensive.

why don’t more flashlights do a clip like the microstream where it’s just a a 2-way clip? having to take it off and reverse it to put it on a hat is annoying…you might be using the flashlight to find its own clip if you accidentally drop it lol

I really like this light. When you’re in an area with limited ability to recharge a battery bank, as I often am, the AAA battery is a great option. This will also work with a 10440 li-ion but it’ll still be the more or less the same brightness as the AAA. I have a Fenix PD 36 Tac with extra batteries in my bad so it’s also a great companion light. The flat from factor is also really good! I like this almost as much as my Rovyvon A8X.

I love rectangular lights so I went all out and got the E4 Ti Pro which seems to just be a titanium variant. Side lights are awesome but 10440 in the AAA slot makes these things.
I do agree with waterproofing though. I’ve been caught in downpours and spooked when I saw condensation under lenses. Wouldn’t want that happening with more expensive ones like the Ti.

I have the E8 and it's amazing but the battery life on either battery sucks but for the given size it's amazing. I don't like that it unlocks when charging and that it's so easy while trying to lock it to enable the strobe feature. I leave it in my small pocket on my jeans and put it on my hat when it's needed.

i have a nitecore mini 2 which i absolutely love i think it should be the gold standard in the edc keychain department, but i have had it for a pretty long time now and i can tell the battery is losing its life being cycled so many times over its lifespan. i use the crap out of it too charging every single day ive had it, maybe only a handful of days when i didnt charge it. anyways, i think this rovyvon e5 is going to be my next edc keychain light. the nitecore mini 2 is still an absolutely fantastic light

The only thing that I would change on this light is that I wish they would put a super magnet on the very end of the lanyard attachment point so that you could potentially use it that way. I know that the way they make it probably would be a lot more difficult for them since it’s basically like a molded plastic but still that’s the only thing missing is the magnet. or is there a magnet on the side maybe I missed that?

For me, the dual battery functionality is the key selling point for an EDC flashlight. Also, the charging port cover keeps water & dirt out of the charging port, but t's not the only point of ingress protection that a device needs to achieve an IP rating. There's a spec for the usb-c port itself. Water and/or dirt in the charging port only presents a problem when you want to charge the device not when operating it as long as water hasn't ingressed.
For example, I've usb-c rechargeable bike lights that I've used daily in the very rainy PNW w/o those the lil' rubber plugs or w/o having them closed and the lights have lasted my years w/o any problems.
In another video, I recall you complaining that a flashlight wasn't IPX8 rated. Why? Do you even know what the IPX8 rating is? Submerged in 10' of water for at least 30 mins. Really, you think you need that in a EDC/pocket carry flashlight?
:As far as the IPX8 waterproof rating is concerned, the testing conditions and duration are not strictly specified and are defined by the manufacturer (or in cooperation with a certified lab that performs the test). The conditions have to be more severe than in the case of the IPX7 rating. The depth of water is usually 3 meters (or 9.8ft) and the test has to last longer than 30mins. Devices with an IPX8 waterproof rating are usually hermetically sealed. However, certain types of devices will be rated as IPX8 waterproof even if some amount of water enters the enclosure, but only if the water doesn’t affect the functionality of those devices.": -- www.audioreputation.com/ipx8/

  • @Saracen11

I bought one after watching your video and it is a little power house but it has some design issues and I find I actually prefer the FTOYIN Mini LED that normally sells for considerably less. The RovyVon does not arrive with a charging cable, cannot stand vertically because of the placement of the keychain loop and the lid that covers the charging port seems fragile and is placed where it become cumbersomes to open if the pocket clip is in place. The head also appears to heat up more quickly than the FTOYIN but I haven't timed it. I enjoy your reviews and would love to see your thoughts on a value comparison between the two.

I prefer the red sidelight version of the RovyVon flashlights, I find it more useful more often than UV. What I'm currently really curious about is how the E8 compares to the E5. They seem almost identical except for how they implement the sidelight (and the E8 isn't GITD). But the sidelight is what makes these flashlights so neat to me - I find having what is basically a small lantern on me surprisingly useful. Being able to just turn it on and set it down while trying to do something inside a cabinet or a PC case is much easier than trying to aim a regular flashlight or putting on a headlamp, especially for quick tasks.

5V and are disposable. A 10440 has much higher discharge at 3.7V which creates a substantially higher output. It also uses a substantial more stable chemistry and are rechargeable (usually between 500 and 1800 cycles)

Channeling my inner Nick Shabazz: It's a bright, even brilliant design! Get it? BRIGHT! BRILLIANT! It's a flashlight!
I'm just not fond of the shape and I'm not sure there's any other shape that's going to work as well. Be real easy to change the form factor and end up with something, almost, the size of a AAA Mini Maglite and that ain't exactly 'pocket friendly'.
Aside from having a replaceable, internal, backup battery I'm not really seeing that big an advantage over carrying any other AAA or (preferably for me) AA light and a backup cell in your pocket. (Mine is supposed to be a 14500 battery in the light and a AA lithium as a backup.)
Realistically though, how often do you run a light dead in everyday circumstances?

Why do you complain about other flashlights that don't have direct access to turbo & moonlight modes and then when you review a flashlight that provides that you just give it an average rating?
Consistency and fairness with your functionality requirements would be appreciated.
You also say that build quality is always excellent, they innovate and execute new ideas well but then only give them an average rating as you did for the light output & runtime as that's on par w. other flashlights in the same price range?
