Kenny has always been one of my favorites. He always seemed to be like a regular guy! I wish I could have met him and thanked him for his music helping me through my turbulent teens.
I bought my first album with my own money that year. I was 9 years old and it was Kenny’s latest. 42 years later I still love him. RIP sweet music man.
He kept saying he hve 2 more years on the top. But Kenny, oh Kenny Rogers, you are still on the top. And will REMAIN. BELIEVE ME. I LOVE YOUR MUSIC MR. ROGERS. REST IN PEACE 🤗
Wow. If he could have seen and known what was ahead of him. His passing this year means he had 41 more years becoming one of the biggest of all time…. Crazy time warp thing happening for me right now. Remember watching this when it aired. Smh… He was a VERY driven man for sure!
Kenny got better looking the older he got! Unfortunately, after his plastic surgery, and in the end, he was almost unrecognizable! He aged so badly. But he was so talented to the very end, R.I.P Kenny!
Lynda, I'm not sure if you realized how sick Kenny was especially since 2017. I'm not sure exactly when I believe it was sometime in 2015, Kenny was diagnosed with bladder cancer, plus he had previously been diagnosed with hep. C. from what I read, for the most part he had the hep.C controlled, with medication. When he was diagnosed with the bladder cancer. Kenny pretty much kept it quite. Family Members knew, and dear close friends. Kenny's Dr's wanted him to retire completely in 2017. Kenny wanted to do a final tour. In 2018 Kenny was rushed to the Hospital. ( I don't mean to be disrespectful, if you research bladder Cancer. You will definitely have a better understanding of what Kenny was going through) In 2019 Kenny was rushed to the Hospital again, just before Thanksgiving. At that time, his Dr's. told him, he had to stop touring, and was sent home under Hospice Care. Which even fewer People knew that. On Thanksgiving Kenny, his Wife Wanda and his Children, other Family Members and dearest friends were over Kenny's for Thanksgiving Dinner, he gave a shout out to his fans from his Channel and he showed who was all there. He wished Everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. And was hoping to try to makeup some tour dates that had been canceled. Around Christmas time, he sent a message out over the Radio, again wishing his Fans, and Friends a Merry Christmas and a great New Year. If you look back in 2017 when CMA finally made Kenny a member of Country Music Hall of Fame, and they had several other Country Music Stars honor Kenny. You could see the pain even though he was trying to keep on Smiling. You could tell when the pain became unbearable, Kenny would either sit on a stool or if he was singing a Duet. Whoever he was singing with would go over to Kenny, and Kenny would put his arm around whoever his Duet partner is. Watch when Kenny and Dolly do the video of their last song they recorded together. In fact Kenny had contacted Someone he knew, who was a great songwriter. Kenny had told him, that he had ran into an old friend a few days earlier. And he went up to Kenny, and said he was thinking about him the other day, and he realized you can't buy old Friends. Kenny said, that really stuck with him, and he knew there was a great song using those words. So Kenny had called his Friend and asked him if he could write a special song using those words, that he and Dolly could record. Kenny and Dolly both said when they heard that song, they both cried. They both said that song described their Friendship and how much their Friendship meant to each other. Kenny even said, he didn't even care if it became a number one hit. He wanted them to record it, so they had it. Kenny went on to say in that Business, Dolly is his best Friend. Dolly agreed, saying She felt the same way. When they started recording, the Song, Kenny said, he had sang his part, and he was waiting to hear Dolly to start singing her part. He said Dolly went to him, and had put her arms around his neck. He said Dolly said, Kenny, I have to tell you something, I won't be able to sing at your Funeral Service. Kenny said, he realized, Dolly had been crying, that was why She didn't start to sing when it was her turn. Kenny said he wanted to break the tension, him and Dolly were feeling. So Kenny said he said to Dolly, oh We already decided I'll be the first to go ? Dolly knew, Kenny didn't have much time, and that was going to be the last song they recorded. You can see how much pain he was in. Dolly couldn't even do his final tour that he started but didn't get the chance to finish. I know Someone who had bladder Cancer. It's very painful. It's hard to stand, walk and even lay down. And Kenny was put under Hospice Care, around the end of October, maybe the beginning of November. Some reports have said Kenny's last few days, he had problems with breathing as well. I have lost a lot of love ones from various types of Cancer's at various ages. And when they lose their battle, the Cancer, and if they go through Chemo, or radiation. Either of them in my opinion, does as much damage as the Cancer, in some cases even worse. I know what you mean about that facelift, the Dr. who did it, was fined. And I believe he had to pay for Kenny to go to a different Dr to have him undo the damage. The second Dr. did a much better job. A few yrs later was when Kenny found out about the bladder Cancer. Just thought you might want to know, the real reason, he aged so fast his last few years. He thought he had enough time to do his final tour. R. I. P. Kenny. Thank you, for your great music.

I truly appreciated reading all you wrote, and did give me more much more insights, and understanding of what he was gong through in the very end. My heart aches at the thought that he suffered so much in the end! I think it's so mysterious how that awful plastic surgeon was never publicly outed/known, being that he did such an awful botch job on him. The public should have been protected from being one more of his victims. Because unfortunately if one googles anything about a lawsuit, or his plastic surgeon you can't find absolutely nothing on that, at least I haven't been able to find in my research. I lost my aunt to Bladder and Bone and my mom to Breast and liver cancer and a cousin to cancer.. My twin Brother survived Stage one kidney... Cancer is a pain in the padded ass.. I can now feel the pain that Dolly must have felt the day she recorded her section of You Can't Make Old Friends... I would have been the same way... Now I want to cry.. Glad I didn't know about the cancer he had... I never got to see my mom before she passed.. I don't think I would have survived if I could have seen her.. My heart hurts.. for him.. his family and his friends...

They were a great looking couple. He said on phil that she was his last. I guess he was happy with wanda but it made him seem like a silly old man trying to hold on to his youth n it didn't work! Mariane was a class act!!! So so pretty
How generous and candid of Kenny. Loved his music since this time. I was 8 and we sang his songs on the school bus.🙂 Always classy, and very handsome. Seemed like a really nice guy who made it. Beautiful voice and songs. Never the diva. Refreshing. Wonderful musicians too. RIP Kenny. You gave us a lot of musical joy.
Garth, thank you so much for sharing this, Kenny Rogers was a huge singer in my mind. He was so sincere and his voice so unique. There are some voices that you only need to hear once to identify them and Kenny is one of them. The other would be Karen Carpenter. I know I have another but it's several hours past my bedtime and can't think that clearly right now. I wish we would have had the internet back in the 70's like we do now. It is so great to be able to listen to great singers or look up historical things. The list is endless. Stay safe Garth!!
OMG, don't I feel old now! I remember watching Phil Donohue then. I was a teenager. That beard was a great look on Kenny. He's a stone cold fox here, and God bless him, he gave us a lot more music to enjoy. #RIPGambler
Holy crap man... I have not seen Donahue in years.... One of the last shows of that was when he has Sesame Street on.. Big Bird Elmo and even Bob and Susan.. Watching this with commercials.. With Kenny... You KNOW this is going to be awesome......
Man i miss these days! Geez! I was a 70s kid, but People of ALL AGES were so much happier. Probably because the freedom that the terrorists, oops, I mean the government, took away.
It was live on April 1, 1979. We flew the date to Chicago the night before and early that morning someone broke into our rental van in front of the hotel and stole all the band instruments. I had to rent instruments. The band had to wear their tour jackets from that year as stage outfits because the wardrobe trunk was opened and the police got fingerprint powder all over the clothes which weren't stolen. Kenny had a personal suit in his luggage.

Kenny couldn't have predicted the future when he said Marianne would be his last marriage. I wished it had been. Wanda didn't seem to fit.
