Glad you enjoyed DC's extensive bike infrastructure that exists as a result of political advocacy on the part of groups like WABA. Well said on all of your points walkingdistrict. I thought it odd Seth concluded his video with political commentary instead of giving his final assessment on what he thought of the riding in DC

I'm actually working on a pretty big project in DC, it will be a pedestrian bridge that spans the Anacostia river with a park on one side. So, certainly the bike infrastructure is being improved as part of that.
As in 10:34 am. It was found. Drove an hour, Got there late my self 😢. Very fun meeting other subscribers in this scavenging fun in DC. So much fun. Well worth the drive and the gas spent 🤙🏾
Hey Seth, thanks for the video. Not sure why you didn't give your final assessment on what you actually thought of the riding in DC, instead of some political commentary. But, I lived there for few years back in 2021-2023 and can attest it being a fantastic biking city. Lots and lots of city bike lanes and so many nature filled rides, such as the one off of the Anacostia River you rode and stashed the camera. You can ride all over the city and not have to ride in the streets "with" the cars. I moved to London after DC and can only say it is by far the worst city I have ever biked in. Very limited on bike lanes and just flat out dangerous.
Be sure to hit up Frederick water shed area about 45 minutes north of DC (super chunky and fun) and/or Patapsco State Park (largest trail system on East Coast 240+ miles of trails)
DC is super bike friendly until you hit these certain spots where the trails just... stop. It's like 90% done and getting better all the time, as long as Cleveland Park NIMBYs don't get too rowdy. Edit: So I live about 10 minutes from the hiding spot. Was there this morning and alas... no dice, but I DID SEE THE ANACOSTIA MURDER TURKEY!!!
Next time you're in Arlington be sure to hit up El Pollo Rico in Virginia Square! (Best Peruvian Chicken in the District). In terms of trails, you would probably love biking the Rock Creek Parkway through the heart of D.C. Thanks for coming out!!
If anyone is wondering, the bike shop Seth visited is "The Daily Rider" in eastern DC, the owner is super nice and knowledge-able and even let me do photography and film for one of my classes in there.
its The Daily Rider on H Street NE in the H Street Corridor. Its a great shop. Please visit! Also great are Conte’s (multiple locations) and Silver Cycles on 13th St NW in the Logan Circle neighborhood. PS: There is no such thing as “eastern DC”
Lol, so glad you got to DC. I find it very bikable. The Mt. Vernon path is awesome! Tons of cool stuff to explore on the VA side. I love that you captured the random abandoned rent-a-bikes/scooters. That's a DC sight for sure. And Kenilworth Park! You hit all the sites. And you're right it's much easier to ride in DC than drive. So glad you came up for a visit! Super thumbs up!
It must be nice to have the luxury of not having an opinion. As a Mexican immigrant, there is one party that has called immigrants like me rapists and criminals. And even if this person meant only the undocumented ones, this person still said they murder because it's in their genes. As in, also my genes. So for me, somebody who thinks "yeah, that sounds reasonable, I can vote for that person" is not really somebody I have much of a desire to exchange ideas with. South Park libertarianism is great if you pretend both sides are equally moral or equally immoral. It affords you the luxury of pretending you're above all the fighting and the arguing, but the reality is that people like that are just too afraid to pick a side, or even say they've picked a side. I would have respected Seth a lot more if he just said "I have opinions about this stuff, I'm just not going to share them here". And yes, I also work with people from the other party. A person that voted for the other party was even the person I picked to take care of my daughter when she was in surgery. I can get along with them, I can completely avoid politics conversations so we can remain good coworkers. But deep down inside, I know that this person voted for somebody who openly hates people like me, and because of that, we'll never be friends. At best, we are friendly coworkers.
That sounds great and all, I’m from a family of immigrants as well. Obama never said things like this but deported more immigrants than any other president. To me, it’s not about what politicians say, it’s about what their actions manifest. The greater benefit to my family’s future is economic success and stability.
@carlosa8639 if you think you're going to get that from someone that said Obama wasn't born in America, and used that as their springboard into our political arena, you're going to be very disappointed.
It bothered me hearing some of this language in the debates. It sad that they had to use scar tactics to get people to vote. Unfortunately, the other side is using so many scar tactics, they must have just said it Ok. And I think it makes all of us look stupid. If we are an educated nation, tell us facts and let us make our own decisions.

What an unexpected surprise for me to learn Seth was in the DC area! I JUST biked in some of the areas shown on the video last weekend! I definitely would have recognized Seth since I am a subscriber and I know exactly where the park is he hid the capsule in. I took note of a unique looking tree too as a landmark because I had planned to look for the capsule but it’s already gone according to some other comments I read. I’m a DC native and an Air Force vet who bikes since running is no longer an option due to running injuries I got in the military. It’s great seeing DC from an outsiders point of view. It’s a very bike friendly city connected to great trails in Virginia and Maryland. I love how they found a great mom and pop place to eat because other parts of the city were “too bougie”! I laughed out loud when Seth said that!
Spent a weekend biking around D.C. last summer and I LOVED it. City is easy to figure out quickly, and it easy and quick to move around by bike. Safe. The bike trails in the area are awesome, and all the sites to see! Rode from D.C. to Mount Vernon 25 miles away, all on a dedicated bike trail. Took my bike on Amtrak train from New England. Didn't get into a car the entire weekend, from my front door. Can't wait to go back.
I love that you showed the Lime bikes in actually normal spots. They usually end up in either the anacostia river, in the middle of 395 or on peoples balconies 😂
Having lived 10 min away from downtown DC for the first 12 years of my life I can say it’s a genuinely cool place with a ton of parks and good infrastructure. I’m not sure how bad the videos have become in the last 4 years since I left but I have a lot of good memories of DC
I used to live in Virginia and go up to NVA and DC all the time to ride. I tell people all the time that biking is the best way to see DC. You can cover lots of ground, there are a surprising number of greenways/trails to ride, plus you get some history if you’re into that. DC probably belongs on a list of unexpectedly fun places to ride.
Hell, yeah, Seth! My girlfriend and I just did Washington DC. This summer, on our electric scooters. We thought it was surprisingly dirty on the highways and roads… arbitrary areas were wheeled. Transportation was not allowed… overall, the free Museums and historical sites made it worth it. Dealing with the police was not horrible. However, they towed every single car on an entire road. Without any notification whatsoever.Luckily the police warned us and our car did not get moved to another part of a city.I do not know... can't wait to go back and continue to check out all the trucks and stuff we missed.
They just move your car off of rush hour corridors. No parking during those hours. Unless you have unpaid parking tickets it won't get impounded, it just ends up a street or two away.
@ thank you for articulating that we did learn that while we were there. I’m just hyper protective over my car. We had just bought new wheels. We were coming from Florida and live in Connecticut so everything we own in need was in our car. Terrifying to have the prospect of it not being there and not know any better.
Maybe you dont have a "political home" but I know which party tends to favor bike infrastructure and infrastructure investment in general. Your closing thoughts gave a very "both parties are the same" vibe which feels a bit disingenuous. And I get it, your platform needs to make money. But instead of the verbal throw your hands in the air why not talk about how to get involved and how things wont change unless we do. Only 1/2 of people age 18 -24 are registered to vote and even less than that do cast a ballot. Young people need to educate themselves and show up and they could change the world.
yeah, was really disappointed when he said that. Especially when he could've said nothing at all. Kinda comes off as "Look at me, I'm so smart and better than these crazy people arguing over ""random"" things", Like, just don't talk about it if you don't have anything to say. It's nice that someone in your position to not care about politics and not be affected by who's in charge, but some people's lives are forced to be political simply because they exist, so stop trying to make it sound like you're some 400iq centrist who thinks both sides are bad.

My exact experience with corner bars! They’re wack, inside bar-ends are the proper solution for getting more hand positions on the bike. Finising the C&O trail and riding down the National Mall is the most spectacular way to end a bike tour, 10/10 would recommend!
My boyfriend and I just visited Brevard at the beginning of November where we visited Squatch Bikes and met Pat! Such a nice guy, and he told us this video was coming out soon so I’m excited to finally be seeing it!!
As a DC resident since 2006 who has biked here almost as long, I gotta say you hit some great spots (especially the Anacostia trail) It helps to be comfortable close to traffic because some of the drivers can be aggressive or looking at their phones. Besides the C&O, I’d suggest you bike on Beach Drive through Rock Creek Park. It’s a natural backbone of the city and quite a bit of the road sections were closed to traffic after the pandemic began. Hit up some locals and come back for a part two!

Seth should try Minneapolis/St. Paul next year after the weather warms back up.
Only thing I hate are people parking in the city bike lanes
@@exothermal.sprocket He should try Minneapolis / St. Paul in the winter! Anyone can get around by bike when it's nice out. Throw on some studded tires and get to know the maniacs who commute by bike year-round.

As somebody who lives in DC I can say that the residents are not politically divided, just the politicians. Great video. I have always wanted you to come to DC.
Yeah I know I live in Arlington and I never knew this is how people thought of it
Glad you enjoyed DC's extensive bike infrastructure that exists as a result of political advocacy on the part of groups like WABA. Everyone always rags on DC because of Congress, without understanding that 700k DC residents have no voting representation in Congress (and will continue to be disenfranchised as a result of the recent election). Being "apolitical" is a privilege.
Well said on all of your points walkingdistrict. I thought it odd Seth concluded his video with political commentary instead of giving his final assessment on what he thought of the riding in DC
We can agree that bike infrastructure is great and not agree on almost anything else. And just because I find both Democrats and Republicans ridiculously annoying, doesn't mean that I don't have opinions or "don't care" . I just don't demand that anyone have the same opinions as me or that they're stupid for not doing so or that I can't support cycling infrastructure and lobby for it without also subscribing to an entire ideology.
@@ridesharegold6659I mostly agree with you, but, unfortunately, if you want to make some progress, you have to go with the lesser of the 2 evils. For example, something like cycling infrastructure would zero chance if it were up to Republicans .
No one besides the president is supposed to live in DC
@@ridesharegold6659maybe it is time to start the bike party. The only requirement is to ride a people powered conveyance and advocate to more of that infrastructure.
What gave you the impression that DC was unbikable? when I was there? it was amazingly bikeable. tons of bike paths everywhere and lots of paths extending outward from the city too.
It’s a clickbait title
@@mattbaillargeon I was going to post the same comment Matt "click bait". He didn't even give a final opinion on what he thought of the riding. Only some dumb comments on politics, which all of us are sick of hearing about.

Traffic in Washington DC is crazy. One commute home with a 🚗 full of people who couldn't get on the 🚌, 30 miles in a snowstorm took 3 hours. A dedicated fat tire 🚲 rider could have beaten my time while having fun.
Regarding your political diatribe - inaction is a choice too. You can watch things go bad be proud you didn't try to stop it. People are actively being targeted with false narratives and cast as 'evil', 'broken' or 'freaks' simply for being born different.
Sounds an awful lot like the "silence is violence" projection that is tiresome.
Silence always helps the oppressor, never the oppressed.

Today we learned Seth is Wolftick's bastard love child. Thanks Flag guy
Lived in Northern Virginia my whole life outside of DC. I've always felt DC was very bikable!
Same
Next time you're in Arlington be sure to hit up El Pollo Rico in Virginia Square!
I'm surprised Seth didn't give their name...
its The Daily Rider on H Street NE in the H Street Corridor.
I’m so glad you got to ride around and enjoy my city. It’s literally my favorite place to bike 🫶🏾 The whole DMV would love to have you back!
@@J.P.1. Again, with what people say, not what they do. Actions speak louder than words, I couldn’t care less what Trump or anyone in a political position say, 90% is rhetoric.
@@carlosa8639seems like a lot of people trust words more than actions. They can't differentiate their butthurt feelings from reality.
As a fellow independent, I also love bicycles! Love seeing you ride these streets I'm so familiar with.
I see those scooters and bikes around Raleigh, NC abandoned in the weirdest places. I do think many are where they are because of the geofencing built into the bike/app.
It's like watching everybody's dad who never left his hometown realize other places are heckin nice.
You took my shortcut!
I ride that path 12mi each way every day. I have so many things I’d love to say, but I’ll keep it to, “Thanks for visiting, I hope you had a great time!”
waiting for unbikable to hit cincinnati! it’s canonically one of the worst laid out cities in america, has extreme hills cutting off half the city, nd the other half is cut off by a highway, little to no bike lanes, nd in general probably the worst city to bike in. but it has skyline so that makes it perfect
Ah Cincinnati. I'll never forget biking there. I caught the rear tire of my city rental bike on one of those godforsaken streetcar tracks, which happens to fit those bike tires just perfectly. It's almost like the city of Cincinnati designed it that way. I went down on my left side which hurt for about a month. Good times.
You are wrong about American politics but cool to see you enjoy riding around DC. Its a great city with great locals.
Seth's description of US politics is how someone who knows nothing about US politics would describe it. 😄
sounded like an edgy 15 yo boy.
Yeah. If you want to leave politics out of your videos, that's fine. Just leave it out of your videos. Don't denigrate the feelings and actions of people who have strong beliefs and are working to make their country, state, town a better place to live. Although the other side, denigrate those guys all you like! ;-)
You know this meme with a bell curve and the same simple statement to the left and the right, on the left is a smooth brain wojak, on the right is wise jedi wojak, and a ton of fancy words and an angry hipster wojak in the middle?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see a video of Pat's bike, detailing its components and specs.
I love that you showed the Lime bikes in actually normal spots. They usually end up in either the anacostia river, in the middle of 395 or on peoples balconies 😂
You should have come out to northern Virginia! Out here in Reston we have some amazing biking and mountain biking infrastructure
Got mixed up with the Wolf-Tick channel. Great video btw.

Did mistake you for Wolftick?.
Hell, yeah, Seth! My girlfriend and I just did Washington DC. This summer, on our electric scooters. We thought it was surprisingly dirty on the highways and roads… arbitrary areas were wheeled. Transportation was not allowed… overall, the free
Museums and historical sites made it worth it.
He totally thought you were Tick from WolfTick Videos 💯😂😂
It's nice that someone in your position to not care about politics and not be affected by who's in charge, but some people's lives are forced to be political simply because they exist, so stop trying to make it sound like you're some 400iq centrist who thinks both sides are bad.

as a DC local. I Love this video. it really shows how much of a normal city DC is. yes there are very importaint buildings and people but in the end it is a 10 mile not square anymore of a bunch of normal people just living their lives.
You should listen to the Sporkful podcast episode about the idea of authenticity and class in immigrant food. Associating food from low income communities with needing to be cheap or no frills to be “authentic” can really impact the way that a culture and people are perceived
My exact experience with corner bars! They’re wack, inside bar-ends are the proper solution for getting more hand positions on the bike. Finising the C&O trail and riding down the National Mall is the most spectacular way to end a bike tour, 10/10 would recommend!

As a DC resident since 2006 who has biked here almost as long, I gotta say you hit some great spots (especially the Anacostia trail) It helps to be comfortable close to traffic because some of the drivers can be aggressive or looking at their phones.

DC is actually so politically homogenous (no neighborhood had more than 22% of people vote for Trump at the latest election) so unless you're directly in politics, people don't talk too much about politics. Strangely enough, some of the biggest political fights in the city are about bike lanes.
