Seriously I only really looked into the band in 2019ish, use to listen to powertripping while working with the guys on the factory line. Only recently did I listen to the bands full concerts guy were on a whole other level. These guys are genius. Also the stupidest thing he said, was thinking the rebels were against trump. Otherwise he's the wizard, he knows more than the youthful prince.
Yeah great signature rock voice and riffs. Do remember what the name of the track is where the video has the band playing on a red shag-pile carpet in the shape of an upside down cross? Cant seem to find it on the tube.
Love Monster Magnet. So cool that they recorded my song Mr Destroyer, on their new Album A Better Dystopia. Original Version is on the Poobah Album Let Me In. Love it, and I wrote the song.
Everyplace my Band Poobah goes, no matter what town, someone in the audience, almost always asks me about how Monster Magnet got a hold of me, and how did I feel about them covering Poobah. I think it's freaking awesomeness, as I was a fan of Dave Wyndorf. Can you imagine how cool I thought it was to talk to the Spacelord on the phone
Dave is the single greatest songwriter IMO. Almost every song is like a super detailed short story. Ever since I was a teen MM songs would play like a movie in my mind when I listen to them. Free music videos if you will.
What's really funny is I remember an interview I read 30 years ago where Dave talked about being snowed in, and writing all of the songs for DTI is his kitchen in Red Bank. It's almost exactly like I pictured it lol
A very interesting interview in many ways. For those who remember him from the 90s, it's kinda funny how this would have been impossible back then... remembering Dave "in his prime", talking about Drugs and Women (losing virginity in a pool at age 11 -- yeah yeah) ... then throughout the hard times (hard times for 'classic rock' indeed) in the early 2000s when he seemed on the edge between this and another world. I really ADMIRE him for still being there, older than my 'old man' and still with a somewhat clear vision on things and *doing his thing*. Thank you Dave ;) ... PS: it's really a kind of funny times, when you see your idols in their messed up kitchen, filmed through some blurry camera lense -- but then what really matters, is the content of the talk.
That was an excellent and interesting interview. I must admit that I didn't know what to expect from it, but I knew that it would be anything but boring. It was down to earth, honest, and insightful. I have been a Monster Magnet fan for a long time, and would be eternally grateful if I ever get to see them live ( please come to Edmonton, Canada!), because there's nothing like Dave's music. He's a genius.
What a lovely fellow. He can certainly hold a captive audience. I'm sure he's a great dinner guest for interesting conversations, the guy you want around to get the party started...and the musician that any decent band would want...
Dave is always on point. Every interview he does is always great and truthful. The clearest discussion on what the state of the world we are living in. Someday the world will catch up with Dave Wyndorf and Monster Magnet. 🤟🏼🔥
34:40 - "Things are gonna happen anyway. The people who are in power, and they're gonna do things...they're gonna do what they do. The best thing people can do for themselves is to keep one eye on the politics but another really strong eye, and a bigger eye, on just moving through life and being as happy as you possibly can. And share that happiness with the people around you, and that's how you build out goodness." 38:13 - "Hell's gettin' kind of boring."
Awesome, thanks for sharing. The new covers album A Better Dystopia is so fucking good! Gives you a great insight into Dave Wyndorf's musical influences that have shaped Monster Magnet.
This is by far one of my favourite interviews with Dave. You have a great gift to build rapport, showcase your enthusiasm for the music and still come across as very professional. A huge bonus point for chopping your interview into chapters.
What a legend.. I have to confess I only stuck at that one Negasonic album....but it still amazes me for 30 somewhat years.... This guy truly strikes me as highly intelligent...
Dave is captivating. Such an intelligent soul. I saw MM on long island ny around 2005. The show was SPECTACULAR ❤...Saw Hawkwind 1993 at the Limelight nyc. Probably one of the most incredible shows I had ever seen❤
So many good lines, experiences and wisdom, absolutely love listening to Dave! What a legend. Good interview man, good questions and flow too from your end
Very interesting interview. I have been a fan of Monster Magnet since Powertrip. I never saw them. I never thought Dave was that knowledgeable about music. He knows what it takes to entertain people with his music. I hope one day MM comes to Ottawa Canada so I could see this amazing band.
12:23 as we say : hitting the nail right on the head.. listening to space lord, eyes closed, getting sucked into his 4 th dimension... damn never gets bored, never gets less powerfull after listning to it for the zillionth time..then I watch the music video of that era...you see Dave did't want to dress all in blue and go jump up and down in Las Vegas...that isn't his 4th dimension.. Well glad to hear you say it.. always knew it. You rocked solid then and now.. glad to see you'r doig' fine and really hope to see you in Europe soon!
Great interview ,excellent work !Dave Wyndorf is a very intelligent and refined man .His musings on music are worthwhile. Moreover he quotes Yes and King Crimson and he talks about Marvel Comics ,he knows his stuff
The difficulties of getting music? Ah ha! I heard Monster Magnet on the John Peel radio show and went to a local record shop to get the CD imported from Germany. Anyway, goddamn, Dave is always on the nail. I've got a lot of tenuous connections to those bands like Hawkwind and the Damned. Had some creative influence on Inkubus Sukubus videos. Tony is a triple Scorpio. But Dave is a Scorpio too. He knows stuff beyond this shallow realm.
I have to agree with Dave about Corona really screwing up the creative element and no themes. It's time to read some really gritty sci fi and write about that world!!!
HAWKWIND! yeah when he said that, you can really see the influence, Monster Magnet even played the whole of Hawkwinds Space Ritual live album as a warm up for there gig at the venue in London under the west way. Amazing!
No doubt about it, Dave didnt get filthy rich but look at the life he lived. Amazing adventures and stories, and yet look at his kitchen, its NORMAL! Just like a regular blue collar guy like the rest of us. But hes a fucking legend! It never went to his head, he never joined that big club.. Hes still one of us. Gotta love the guy.
He definitely made quite a bit of money, but consider he didn't start making real money until he was in his 40s, he has at least one kid that I know of, and maybe some exes who get/got money from him. Add to that, yeah, he has blue collar roots, isn't ostentatious, and saves his money.
I'll never forget buying Powertrip for Space Lord and then hearing Goliath and the Vampires for the first time. That piece of rock history changed my life.
Monster magnet needs to come back.I watch the live performance they did in Sweden and I rock so hard. They were so awesome. Negasonic teenage warhead is my absolute. Love you Monster Magnet
Wyndorf is legend! A true genius of imagination. Some smoke, headphones and Spine of God has been my communion for decades. Then a fews years ago I experienced DMT to Nod Scene and I was reborn into a new reality I created. Sorry about recent events. I haven't been sleeping well.
Dave is my hero. I still have never had my mind blown in quite the same way as I did when I first really absorbed Dopes To Infinity, and then found the earlier stuff. I can't quite put my finger on it, or express it properly, but he's like a filter for the mass consciousness of a certain kind of weirdness-seeking kids, sci-fi and comic book freaks, teenage dirtbags, and drug gobblers.
32:40 I tried my damndest, Dave. I wrote my best record, my "Darkside of the Moon" so to speak as protest. It fell on deaf ears, and now nobody's listening!
I can 💯 Relate to the Entire Vibe, Message, Direction! The Music and Lyrics are GENIUS! AND I AM A STAR CHILD. I'm a Killer BASSIST, and Lyricist/Writer. GIVE ME A SHOT with your Next, Current or Any Project that you have going...
MM is not even real popular in my area either (southeast US), but thankfully we used to have a great rock station 15 yrs ago that played MM and that's how I became a fan. Rock on my dude 🤘🏻
Dave Wyndorf is a brilliant and under appreciated artist.
This is it, Chief
Media junkie new song title for the mag.2023 new album. Please
they had a shitloaad of airplay in the 90s you cant imagine.. Where really big in germany for instance, 16000 people come to watch on a festival big.
No he wasn't,everyone loves his music.
Wyndorf is a legend. I just hope one day he gets the recognition he deserves.
Seriously I only really looked into the band in 2019ish, use to listen to powertripping while working with the guys on the factory line. Every time I read or see a Dave Wyndorf interview, I come away thinking “this guy gets it”.
Exactly!
Yeah
This dude has written some fabulous songs.
All hail dave.
Love Monster Magnet. So cool that they recorded my song Mr Destroyer, on their new Album A Better Dystopia.
Original Version is on the Poobah Album Let Me In. Love it, and I wrote the song.
That’s.a huge honor,congrats
@@michaelblaine6494 Thank you, I am very proud that Dave and Monster Magnet liked my song Mr. Destroyer by Poobah
Great lyrics,I just checked it out
Hey that's my favorite song from the album
Congratulations!

Glad to see Dave looking so well, i thought around 2004 that this great man was going to leave us. Always an interesting man to listen to.
Yeah he was looking alot different then. Glad he's getting back to leather vest shape.
Dave is the single greatest songwriter IMO. Almost every song is like a super detailed short story. Ever since I was a teen MM songs would play like a movie in my mind when I listen to them. Free music videos if you will.
I love that there still guys like him out there giving us hes way of seeing music, He so right!!! Thank you Dave for going your own and brilliant way
Well said
I like Dave Wyndorf, I bought all Monster Magnet LPs and I like everyone.

Dave is a musical genius. Someday the world might catch up with him....
Now I can be on my death bed and be able to say: "I saw Dave Wyndorf's kitchen!"
Word. But I’m gonna assume this is the kitchen in his man cave back house.
What's really funny is I remember an interview I read 30 years ago where Dave talked about being snowed in, and writing all of the songs for DTI is his kitchen in Red Bank.

@@FaceCulture My pleasure, keep up the great work :)
Proud to have been a fan since Spine of God and lucky enough to have seen them open for white zombie way back (and with soundgarden a little later)
I just love this man. His music is a gift
I could listen to Dave for days he was a HUGE influence on me in the early 90's and throughout

Dave Wyndorf is an A+ Tier musician. Love the way he writes his lyrics, the refferences, the whole approach. He's one of the best nowadays.
Dave is the best😀 MM have served me some of my best concert experiences.
Interesting he mentions "Incense & Peppermints" by the Strawberry Alarm Clock. I love that song!

Insightful hidden gem of an interview about the changes in music, radio, and concerts over the past 60 years. 📻🎶🏆

Dude, Great interview, and Dave Wyndorf has an awesome outlook on music. Quality interview all the way around!
Thanks Leif, and yeah Dave is an awesome guy :D
I'm no real "fan" of any band or person, but I fucking love Monster Magnet and Dave Wyndorf.
Dave's a very talented and smart guy. Maybe that's why he loves Hawkwind!!
I have to agree with Dave about Corona really screwing up the creative element and no themes. It's time to read some really gritty sci fi and write about that world!!!

David Wyndorf is clearly an admirable artist who managed to live according to his self-expression. Respect!
wish i would hang out with this guy sometime, big hug dave!

Power trip was a huge record. I remember when it came out, blew my mind. One of the best records of the 90s. Period.
There will be another revolution in music at some point. There has to be, it's in it's DNA
From your mouth to G-Ds ears❤
Great interview, thanks. Artists need to snub "the industry" and put out their own shit. Cannot happen all at once. Money changes everything.
Lyrical genius. Seriously, publish a book of this guy's lyrics. Great stuff...
I'll never forget buying Powertrip for Space Lord and then hearing Goliath and the Vampires for the first time. That piece of rock history changed my life.
some of the keyboards melodies and counter melodies on Dopes are
so intricate i have never heard anything like it
We love you music!!! With love from Russia ☺️!!!
Monster magnet needs to come back.I watch the live performance they did in Sweden and I rock so hard. They were so awesome. Negasonic teenage warhead is my absolute. Love you Monster Magnet
Dave is 67 years old. Personally, I'd love to hear more "small" music from him, like his quieter stuff from the MM albums.
Monster Magnet, Queens Of The Stone Age, Bad Religion and the Hellacopters should play together sometime.
I used to say the 11th commandment is that Monster Magnet will never make a bad album. I stand by that.
Dave is awesome ,definitely...not maybe ..he talks to planets baby .
Dude looks great for 65
Interesting interview.
I really like the song When the wolf sits from Dystopia. The album seems like the songs could be written by MM. Love these guys from the beginning.
Dave is a legend.

Dave is the coolest, an original Acid Punk.
32:40 I tried my damndest, Dave. I wrote my best record, my "Darkside of the Moon" so to speak as protest. It fell on deaf ears, and now nobody's listening!
When everybody has a bullhorn the world goes deaf.
Going to see monster magnet in 2 weeks 😁
Superjudge is their Powerage. The understated masterpiece.
Dave Wyndorf of Monster Magnet sounds like Mike Ness of Social Distortion
Dave is the shit.
Listen to Live For the Moment🤘🔥🔥🔥
This is not a normal 65 year old man
