    I am an RN, who had 3 jobs, when I woke up one day and couldn't move my legs. My Hip joints had died, and disintegrated and I was suddenly Disabled. . . forced onto early SSD, and on food stamps for a year, until my hips were replaced and I could walk again. They gave me food stamps. Big deal. $16.00 a month. Try eating on that for a month. You never know the circumstances of someone using food stamps. Keep your mouths shut. Be grateful for your health, because you never know when you will turn into that person using food stamps.

      +Steeny G: You could have gotten hundreds in food bennies if you'd had a baby instead of bad hips. The system is not set up to help the truly needy it's set up to feed and care for the next slave (tax paying) class. Welfare babies either end up in prison if they're male (doing illegal things in order to earn more than what welfare pays or college debt offers) or they become Baby Factories if they're female - trading their flesh and blood for welfare stipends, even when they know that system will ultimately harm their children. I hope you're feeling better, Steeny. Thank goodness for RN's.

      +Leelo James: You're right, Leelo, but sympathy costs too much nowadays. I've noticed that the super rich and the super poor are some of the most uncharitable people you'd ever want to meet. They believe in getting help but giving it, ehh, not so much. Have you ever had a lecture from a welfare mom who shops at Macy's buying name brands, while you do ALL of your shopping at Walmart because nobody's subsidizing your LIFE? Well, I got the lecture about "getting my life together" from a 29 yr old welfare mom w/ 3 kids and no signs of their daddies when I asked to borrow $5 dollars for gas to take her to an appointment with her welfare technician! This was in 1998, mind you. She was floored by the fact that I wasn't going to let her ride for free and somehow I was the problem with society for asking for petro funds but she was the martyred mother-figure who just couldn't catch a break in life... SMH!

    I am an RN who works in HIV supportive housing in NYC. My clients/patients are mentally and physically disabled and some, not all are on SNAP. Most are unable to work, but we have a few who do work part time, and qualify for some SNAP assistance. Most people on dialysis cannot work. The average dialysis session is three days a week for 6 hours straight. The patients are exhausted and tired after a dialysis session. You wouldn't be so quick to judge if it was you needing and waiting for a kidney transplant, and unfortunately most people die before they can receive a transplant.

    I have food stamps. I have 2 children and a wife. I work and I'm currently enrolled in a university as a senior in cell and molecular biology. I have to pay for rent, car payment, insurance, cell phone bill, electric bill, internet and basic cable (kids want to watch cartoons). It's hard to pay all that with a part-time job and still try and manage graduating with a degree so I don't have to depend on food stamps anymore. The program is abused but it doesn't mean everyone on it is abusing it.

    • @gbuster129
      @gbuster129 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Fr33man1988 Your reliance upon others is astounding, are you also on a student loan? I worked when I was in school, had no cable and walked where I went or rode the bus. I would work then go to school, then work and return to school. I even worked while I attended school, never got a dime from the government. My sympathy card is full, get a job and get off those taxpayer funded food stamps. Haven't you heard because of obama's frivolous spending America is broke. BTW, what is your plan to pay back us taxpayers for all those food stamps we gave you?

    • @gbuster129
      @gbuster129 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fr33man1988 This is another reason I intensely dislike the socialist programs, people such as you feel you are entitled to my money and have no moral obligation to repay what you have taken from taxpayers like me. A person who attacks someone they don't know is exhibiting a mental problem built upon a feckless mindset. I freely contribute to charities, but find the idea of someone taking something from me as you have with no intention of paying it back highly repugnant. Bless your little heart.

    • @Fr33man1988
      @Fr33man1988 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Fr33man1988 Did you learn to communicate by incorporating profanity into your posts in your college classes or from your mama? Your post is indicative you know little about taxes, and nothing about what I pay in taxes. I do not nor never have receive a dime from the government, only paid, and I detest deadbeats such as you who live off my taxes. Your profane attitude and your belief your are entitled to a dime of my tax money suggests you are an obama loving democrat. Bless your little heart.

    I went through this EXACT situation with Kroger except that it was W.I.C. We were having a rough time and we needed help getting our son what he needed. By the way, my son is Autistic and has among many other medical conditions a pronounced gag reflex. So, he will literally eat hardly anything but maybe four or five kinds of food and even then not very much of. So, initially he was able to get formula and some baby food. Then as he got older he was Still on baby food but also drinking Pediasure primarily and eating YoBaby's soy yogurt. The yogurt and Pediasure are VERY expensive and there was no way we could buy that. Like, even if we starved and ate nothing we still couldn't have done it. So W.I.C. was a blessing to us. But every single week. Literally. Without Fail. Not just one of the Kroger cashiers but all but a couple, some of them even managers would scrutinize not only every item in the cart but they would also make me whip out my drivers license and three or four of them at a time would be looking it over, holding it up in the air even and looking it over. They would hold up the line so it made the folks behind me get mad. And as if that wasn't enough they would always call a manager over and they couldn't just call them to the register they would announce it twice. Once in a loud voice and once over the speaker "WIC". So everyone not only behind me in line but everyone in every line and customers walking through the front of the store would turn and look at me and give me looks. It was utterly humiliating and soul crushing. And yes, one cashier would always tell me that if I didn't like it I should get a job like her and everyone else. Never mind that I did have a job. A Full Time every hour of every day with no breaks whatsoever job of taking care of my special needs child. I feel for this woman. I really do know what she had to go through.

    When I was little and my deadbeat father didn't wanna pay support, my mom went to nursing school, during which time my grandfather drove her to sign up for food stamps. Once she had her nursing degree, we NEVER needed assistance again. What I learned is that not all single moms on food stamps are low-life idiots. I respect people on assistance because they might be in the same boat. You NEVER know what a stranger is doing with their life.

      +Nume Moon I am sure your mother is a wonderful person, and according to what you say, she improves everyone's lives around her. It sounds like she was dealt a raw hand and was truly one deserving of help. I cannot, however, abide the advocation for unconstitutional government programs that initiate violence on others to help your mom, no matter how deserving she may be. You just have no right to force others to give you there property for the another's benefit, I am as offended by this disgusting and evil ideology as you are by this perceived slight on your mother who, again, I'm sure is a wonderful person.

    • @NumeMoon
      @NumeMoon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fredrick Kenley Wait, how did my mom's use of government aid lead you to "government programs that initiate violence on others to help your mom." WTF? Huh? What in hell are you on about? And if drugs are involved, seek help. No one's stealing from you. You live in any country, and you'll probably pay taxes. Then leaders divide those taxes, and in most countries a portion of those taxes go into public's most vulnerable citizens because A) we're human and don't have stone hearts, and B) government exists for the people. Do you have the same offenses against things like tax-funded military, national parks, public schools, libraries, and roads? I'm offended by your belligerent affection for stupidity.
      (EDIT: History often judges past civilizations by how they treated their sick and their poor. Your way is short sighted. You don't seem to understand the long game of civilization.)

    • @eskiflo
      @eskiflo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nume Moon the government has no money to fund these programs, so by definition they must first take, by force, the money from it's citizens to do so. You sound pretty naive, but don't worry, I have hope for you, people grow more conservative as they age and squire wisdom that conquers their emotion, just give it time.

    Unfortunately by checking the article and its updates listed; that as of Monday Kroger has just transferred the manager to another store.
    "Told about the manager's transfer, Nerger said it wasn't "good enough," and suggested he "should have been demoted to cashier so he can learn who is really on food stamps.""
    I tend to agree with that, give him a choice, go down to cashier with the attendant loss of pay grade until you reprove your competence, or leave not expecting to use them as a reference.

    Some families that where both parents work still can qualify for food stamps. So everyone on assistance isn't lazy. Me and my husband work full time, and have 6 children, and we receive SNAP. It supplements our food bill, which is a big help, and we still buy food also. So it's no ones place to judge , every person situation is different.

    • @itsjustme_neyab

      Right it depends on your household. I tried to get WIC while I was on unpaid maternity leave and I didn't qualify because they still based it off my salary and my husband's salary. We only had 4 members in our household and was told we needed at least 6.

I am on food stamps with my two kids. I was financially independent supporting the three of us until I became disabled. I am 49 and have worked since age 13 and bought two homes by myself even prior to having children with my ex. I am curious about your situation. No disrespect.

      Well in this case, the woman can't work because she has an illness and her husband doesn't earn a lot, so I understand there why she would use food stamps. But there are some people who use it when they don't even need them, and they're perfectly capable of working. Some people are just lazy. And maybe they were fired from their job so they need food stamps at that time, but a lot of times they continue using them and because of that, they don't see why they need to be working. Same thing with welfare. Food stamps and welfare are meant to help a person while they're figuring out a way to get money again, but some people stop there, and that's what is not acceptable.

      Its not that much money you cant live a good life off it. Idc if there are people taking advantage because just knowing it does help some people feed their starving kids is enough. Taking food stamps and welfare away will hurt more people then it would ever help.

      @@jackevans6702 What is hard is that a lot of people assume you are taking advantage when you aren't. I'm autistic and learning disabled, and had a few years where I lost jobs until I could work with vocational rehabilitation for job training and to find a good fitting job. In the meantime, I needed food stamps as a 20s something who looks perfectly able-bodied and like I wouldn't struggle at all to be employed, but actually simple jobs like cashiering and food service are off the table for me. Even though its a debit card, some shoppers I could tell noticed it was an EBT card (Minnesota has a standard EBT card that looks the same). I would get nasty looks a few times, one person looked in my bags at what I was buying, and one person commented "well at least you're buying responsible and not just a bunch of junk food on the taxpayers dime".

    I don't judge people using food stamps who use them wisely. I do however judge people who use Food Stamps irresponsibly, case in point: I had a casual conversation with a woman in a Fry's food store about buying 10 boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts ($10.00ea). She was telling me how people where she worked took turns buying doughnuts for the office (which I'm sure is a lie), anyway. When she pulled out her EBT card to pay for the doughnuts, I was appalled and let her know. We went from casual conversation to her bitching me out and to mind my own business. I told her that money is for her children and family, she replied it still wasn't my business. The cashier then instructed me through eye contact to let it go. By this time everyone was looking at this woman like she was the biggest scum on earth, and I agree with them. If a family needs help buying food, I have no problem with it. However, if said family is buying Lobster, Filet mignon, and caviar at a price tag of $200+ on $300 a month in food stamps, then they obviously have the money to buy the regular foods that working Americans buy and shouldn't need the food stamps.

    • @dorothykelley3183

      If they can afford that they should also be reported because they are getting food stamps illegally! I guarantee it! You get food stamps the right way you can only afford cheap generic crap that doesn't last quite the whole month! I know! I'm disabled and get food stamps, a whole $107 a month! And it's not because I make too much money I receive so low, they think that should actually feed a person for a month, I can barely afford to pay my bills and being able to afford a vehicle? Even a junk one? Heck I couldn't even come up with money for the insuarance for one much less be able to buy one! And people that legitimately need them are in the same shape as me! So if you see someone buying fancy foods, driving nice cars, fancy new clothes and their hair done, they are getting them illegally! All the clothes I get are handmedowns, I have not been able to buy clothes or even get a haircut since my doctors forced me to quit work!

    • @Mobstr1ss

      Michael Cooksey how could you be sure it was a lie? who would need 10 boxes of donuts at once? If they were for her or her family she would not need to buy that many at once as they would go stale. It's not an unbelievable story, and if her work took turns buying them, it was a choice of either "looking bad" in front of you and the rest of the people at the store, or looking bad in front of the people she has to work with for not buying them when it was her turn. You should be ashamed of yourself, feeling so smug for causing an entire store to look down on someone. Did it make you feel better about yourself? Of course it did, and that is probably why you did it. In my opinion, people like YOU are the scum of the earth. Not everyone has the same opportunities and upbringing in life.

    • @dorothykelley3183
      @dorothykelley3183 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hollie it could have been another lie too, it could have been one of her kids birthdays and maybe instead of cake or gifts even they wanted donuts for their birthday so she was getting them for her kids birthday but didn't want to admit she was feeding it to her kids thinking she'd get the third degree over that, which she most likely would have, so she just said that thinking it wouldn't make them feel the need to judge someone that's obviously already judging them or wouldn't have even asked to begin with why they were buying them! Nobody knows the truth of what happened or the situation of the woman, and that was just one persons side of the story, and people like to lie to get attention, not saying for sure they are but people like to lie especially on here to get likes and comments or to argue even and people love to embellish! Anyway, my point is the truth could be the woman was only buying one or two donuts and since that's not healthy and tax payers pay for it a busybody felt the need to stick their nose in someone's life they had no business in and asked why she was buying two donuts with food stamps instead of real food and maybe the woman said my coworker or friend always buys them for me every day and she/he didn't have the money today so asked me and I was too embarrassed to say I couldn't afford one donut for them after them buying me dozens over the years so I'm going without dinner tonight for this. For all we know that's how the conversation could've actually went, nobody knows and won't know the truth unless the store had cameras with audio and decided to share it with us

    • @Mobstr1ss
      @Mobstr1ss 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dorothy, that's very true and a good point. We don't really know what happened in truth. What is funny is people will never be happy about what poor people spend their food stamps on. Some complain that they buy food that they think is "too good" for someone on food stamps, others complain that they buy junk with it.. They get a certain dollar amount per month, how they ration it and what they buy is their own choice.. If they spend $100 on a steak or some donuts then that is just less top ramen that they will be able to purchase.. I think the people complaining about what they buy with their benefits just want something to complain about.

    • @dorothykelley3183
      @dorothykelley3183 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! But Nobody sees it that way! Instead of attacking the big wigs that are getting millions from taxpayers, for each big wig, they go after the poor instead! It's sad! If people get food stamps legally, which most do but aren't publicized like the ones that do wrong, they can barely scrape by food wise buying the cheapest generic junk, and Still will have to go a few days without! And if they do decide to splurge on even a three dollar per person meal that's two meals they don't get on top of that! I am disabled, barely get enough to pay bills, no luxuries like a vehicle, cable, new clothes, haircuts, nails, going anywhere to do anything, never have since my doctor forced me to stop working and signed me up for disability! A lot of what you think of as necessities become luxuries you kiss good bye! And I only get $107 to feed myself for a whole month! That's just a little over three dollars a day! What healthy food can you get and enough of to survive for three dollars a day? None! $107 with of health food wouldn't be enough to feed one person a week! And yes I know if I'd garden if have food from that, well if I could garden I'd be working! Trust me! I love to work and Nobody in their right mind would choose to live life like this if there was any other choice!

    lots of comments defending the use of food stamps. Try working in a grocery store for a while then get back to us on how great they are. Food stamps are great for that small percentage who use them sensibly. but most people buy junk food (no its NOT cheaper) or they are filthy, rude people angry because they don't get more for free. I worked for 20 years dealing with them and everyone i know who did likewise also feels they are a joke. Hungry people don't buy pop or chips. Food stamps are for people who would otherwise go hungry. Want a pop? Get a job because when i worked at stores i couldn't afford pop but i still had to pay taxes for the food stamp people who bought it.

    • @bobisrighturwrong
      @bobisrighturwrong 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      News flash - I didn't say ANYTHING about some people needing them or some people who work needing them. I spoke about the majority who use them OBVIOUSLY not needing them. Food stamps are for people who are HUNGRY - I've been hungry. I was on strike while at the store to end employer abuses of new hires - I got nothing from it except no money, right after I was married. I didn't use the little money I had on pop, candy, chips, cake, gum, breath mints, lobster, prime rib, etc. If you think 90% of food stamp people don't have those in their carts then I suggest you talk to someone you know who works at a store. I bought cheap FOOD. Food stamps should only be for cheap FOOD.

    • @hohlagh
      @hohlagh 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I work in a grocery store and most of the people that I've seen use Food Stamps / SNAP / EBT are buying the things that they need. Vegetables, Fruits, Meats, etc. Now sometimes they do get pop or chips or something else that could be considered a snack type of item... but how they spend the money is their decision.
      Your taxes go to such a small percentage of people who actually need assistance. Your taxes instead are used for the Military (42 cents per dollar and half of that is spent to fund the current war); Health (such as Medicare); Interest on the National Debt; Anti-Poverty Programs (such as Food Stamps) and I'm going to stop there since this is the issue at hand. Notice how it's not even in the top three.
      Also a great deal of people with Food Stamps work jobs, but it's still not enough because the minimum wage is less than the cost of living. For example, I have to use my whole first check for rent and it doesn't even cover the whole amount so I have to rely on what's built up in my account from my second check. Now I use my second check for bills, food, and whatever else I want/need. I have to leave enough to cover the remainder of the rent for next month though... This is despite the fact that I work full time and actually get paid a little more than the current minimum wage.

Ms. Cindy Nerger, held up the check out line for 30 minutes to brow-beat the checker. It even has my wife calling me a "bum" because of no jobs here in San Diego. I was unlawfully terminated from my job after 10 years with the company in 2008. I saw the whole system crash right before my eyes.

    Wow, the point Ana made in this segment was so eloquent and so true. I want to hear more people being so mindful of the true issues at play.

    Reminds me of an old joke.
    Cashier: haha you shop at Kmart!
    Customer: haha you WORK at Kmart!

    I was born into a poor family...we never accepted charity from anyone.
    Not a church, not the government. if we wanted to eat, we found honest work to do.
    It's called pride and self-reliance. Anyone ever heard of that???

    Although she may have been able to respond in a more polite & calm manner, the fact still remains, The clerk falsely told her that her food was not covered by food stamps. I have worked in customer service enough to know that at that point, she had every right to be irate. I would not be happy or nice to that kind of poor customer service either.

    The problem with giving money is that the government (who provides it) cannot control what the money is spent on.
    If it were changed to money and it came out that some used the money to buy drugs, alcohol, gamble, etc... there would be even more outrage.

    See, that's where we differ. I'm at that bridge now. Since this is the court of public opinion and not a court of law, I maintain my right to be pissed off until Kroger's does something to prove otherwise. Meanwhile, he suffers not. Like I said, no one even knows who the manager is. Be Well.
